It's not going to take Wolf/Vrabel as long as many think for the Pats to rebuild. It would really help if one of Carter or Hunter fell to them.
I'm not against bringing in Slayton depending on the cost.

I believe due to Mayer's low contract the Raiders might even get a 3rd for him. But most likely a 4th. It's a late 4th, which is essentially a 5th.

If Texans are more cap conscous and focused on development to improve the team this offseason as stated here…
Mayer would make sense as a talented player on a rookie contract. And who better to develop him than the new OC who happens to be a long time TE coach?
We know Caserio will go get a player if the coaches want them. If Mayer is truly available and Caley wants him, Nick will go get him.
Why is Oakland considering losing this low cost gem?

Probably a change in offensive focus with new system. Want to spread field out more instead of 2 TE heavy sets.
Mayer is never going to play over Bowers and if they can add to their WR or RB room then it’s better for their team.

I’m sure DeMeco has interest in strengthening a strength. Wonder what his trade value will be? Rock solid consistency aside from this season’s campaign (torn pec). If we’re talking where to spend money. I think a DT of Allen’s caliber makes a greater impact than a WR2 (if both are making around 15ish million/year).

A lot of people (rightfully so) wanted the Texans to take a WR with their first round pick in last year’s draft due to the strength of the class. Despite already having two promising WRs on the roster in Nico/Tank.
Bowers was the best offensive player at Georgia winning two national titles there… and he was the first player to win the John Mackey award back to back seasons as the nation’s top TE… and he fell to pick 13. Value is just too good to pass up sometimes.

Your going to have up to 5 WR's on the field at the same time. Having 2 promising (1 coming off broken leg, the other with just 1 relatively healthy season) is not near enough. Mayer was selected with pick 35 just the year before. If he was all that as steelb claims, Raiders wouldn't have passed on highly regarded OL and CB to take another TE @ 13. Bowers was not the only top talent available. Look at it without hindsight. They obviously did not the Mayer was the long term answer
