NFL confirms DJ Swearinger was not fined for his hit on Wes Welker.
Peyton Manning notified by NFL he is fined $8,200 for taunting of DJ Swearinger. No appeal. Peyton: "I accept it..."
oh yeah, that's reeeeally gonna hurt a guy making $19,200,000 per season.Mark Berman ‏@MarkBermanFox26

I have made the difficult decision to retire as of today. My love for my family and the need to be there for them outweighs my desire to play the game. I have missed too many experiences with them because I devoted SO much time to my career. My love for the game isn't strong enough to make up for missing one more birthday or first day of school. I am retiring as a man who is truly grateful for all of his blessings. I am sincerely thankful to the people who have supported me over the years, first and foremost my family, the Rooney family and my Steeler family, also Mr. Brown, the Bengals organization and fans, and last but FAR from least, Steeler Nation. Thank you.
Respect...
James Harrison @jharrison9292
Meh....I'm going to go exactly the opposite. Sorry but trying to claim some sort of great devotion to family by a 36 year old just barely hanging on player smacks of completely disingenuous self-aggrandizing. Should have just gracefully retired.

Was giving Harrison respect as a player. Two rings, DPOY, 5x Pro Bowl, 4x All Pro... a guy you had to account for.
OK apparently inferred wrong from the selected quote. On the field, sure he deserves respect for his career.
#Saints cut CB Champ Bailey. He has made $102,257,025 on the field in his #NFL career

If there was any doubt as to if there was an element of "publicity" involved with the Cowboys signing of Sam, let it be wiped out...........Jerry Jones has announced that there will be a news conference held specifically on this signing...........to a practice squad![]()

Of course ... RT @clarencehilljr Cowboys don't normally sell jerseys of practice squad players. Per source, they will with Sam
Of course, it's not about the money...........![]()
Even if it wasn't, why not make the money?
If I were JJ, another reason I would have signed SAM (apart from being a decent prospect & the market he opens... actually I'm pretty sure the Cowboys have always been in that market) is that he'll take quite a bit of attention off Tony Romo. He's scrutinized way too much.
This should help Romo focus more on his craft than the media.
Or they could just have one of the worst defensive rosters EVER and a desperate for talent on that side of the ball.

https://twitter.com/jeffsperbeck/status/509042315533365248The 49ers are waiving tailback LaMichael James, who asked for his release, Sperbeck said.
...
James departure leaves offensive guard Joe Looney as the lone member of the Niners seven-player 2012 draft class still on the roster.
No sign of Jake Matthews in the locker room but was a walking boot by his locker. Again, don't expect him to play Sunday. Maybe a few games.

RT @mikerodak: EJ Manuel had a 87.9 QBR (out of 100) when not pressured Sunday. It was 0.6 when pressured:
#Jaguars announced: Waived 2013 5th round pick DE Chris Smith. Signed S Craig Loston from practice squad.
Is that good news?While Peyton Manning won't have Welker back this game, the Chiefs have named Ryan Harris as their starting RT.
Is that good news?
It is, isn't it?
I just heard.Carson Palmer is OUT.
Carson Palmer is OUT.
and Stanton isn't looking half bad.Wait, does that mean it's Logan Thomas time?
Checked, appears it's Stanton time![]()
New Orleans is 0-2 thanks to their defense which has given up 60 pts in two games.
I thought Rob Ryan was brought in to fix the defense
Then he needs to put the etouffee plate down and get back to coachingI thought Rob Ryan was brought in to steal all food donations to New Orleans food bank?

Now that you mention it, who DO they have on defense? Other than Cameron Jordan, I can't think of a single standout name.I don't know enough about the defensive roster of NO Could it be that the players just aren't that good too? I had them as a Super Bowl contender. Yikes
The percentages would make more sense - to me anyway - if you split the point differential thusly:**WARNING: MATH**
Are divisional games statistically closer?
The short answer: Depends on your definition of "closer".
The following stats are from the 2012 and 2013 regular seasons combined, according to Pro Football Reference. All ties were included (2 in-division, 0 other).
In division games (192 total):
Average difference: 10.85 points/game
Games decided by <= 3 points: 39 (20.31%)
Games decided by <= 7 points: 94 (48.96%)
Games decided by <= 14 points: 143 (74.48%)
Out-of-division games (320 total):
Average difference: 12.24 points/game
Games decided by <= 3 points: 83 (25.94%)
Games decided by <= 7 points: 149 (46.56%)
Games decided by <= 14 points: 207 (64.68%)
More 3-point-or-fewer games happened in out-of-division games, but they also had 10% more blowouts.
