NFL Random Thought of the Day

They will cut funding to education to pay for it. No problem.
The Bills will cut funding for education? They're liable for the overruns.

The Bills were purchased by Terry Pegula for $1.4 million after the death of original owner, Ralph Wilson. Nine years later, the franchise is worth $3.4 billion. Why anyone ever sells a NFL team is beyond me. Regardless, I'm pretty sure the Bills can swing a loan for $300 million pretty easily.

The Bills are liable for any overruns for now. I wouldn’t put it past NY to pick up the tab after seeing what they did to pay for the stadium.

And I misspoke when I said education would be cut, but I wouldn’t say it is safe. It was children and family services that were cut as soon as the deal with the Bills went down and pay 850m for the stadium.

Pretty shitty if you ask me.

300m is a lot of money regardless if you are worth 1B. Why pay it when you can pay a politician a whole lot less to pick up the tab?

Well, there's the tax write-off. Never feel sorry for an NFL franchise. They will find a way to make $$$.

Misguided and backwards priorities will be hallmarks of western societies to future historians studying their fall. . .provided there is anyone left, of course.

WASHINGTON COMMANDER BOYCOTT THREATENED

The Native American Guardians Association has threatened an “Anheuser Busch (Bud Light)”-style boycott, demanding the Washington Commanders change the team name back to “Redskins.”

...The petition, called Reclaim The Name: Redskins has amassed 77,000 signatures since Tuesday.

...NAGA claims the majority of Native Americans feel disrespected by the name change. The group was established in 1944 and advocates for the recognition of Native American heritage through sports and other public platforms...“The name ‘Redskins’ carries deep cultural, historical, and emotional significance, honoring the bravery, resilience, and warrior spirit associated with Native American culture. It was never intended as a derogatory or offensive term but as a symbol of respect and admiration...

It’s worth changing it back just to see.

I mean - how many people can be outraged if the people it’s supposed to offend are asking it for it to be changed back?

I would imagine that it's a small minority asking for it. But, I don't know that, just guessing. I do know people have fussed over this for decades, and frankly I was glad to see it put to rest.

I do agree they should change their name again though. The one they got is horrible.

Negative connotation probably leans more towards the image on the logo versus the name Redskins.

I’d go back to the Redskins name and roll with the old “R” in the logo. An organization logo could feature a proud Indian:

Give it an overall new image that Indians would be proud of.

This is why I don’t talk to people. I don’t if something is offensive or something find pride in.
Never talk to strangers. I just yell or scream at them.

The image in of itself isn't so bothersome. Had the name been the Washington Cree or the Dog Soldiers, the name would still be the same. But the owner, George Preston Marshall, changed the name from Braves to Redskins. As "Redskins" had a subhuman, animal quality that made it seem more intimidating. Redskins had been a pejorative word towards Native Americans for over a century prior to Marshall choosing it as his team's moniker. And Marshall was a noted racist.

You call that a hit? He looks fine to me. Bryce didn’t even flinch lol
You’re not understanding. Continuous hits, AND he got hit ALOT today just in a few drives his body will not last. He shouldn’t even be getting hit like that at all in preseason.

It never should've been changed to begin with.

Screw those 77,000.
The 77,000 are wanting it changed back to redskins

I stand corrected.

Watching some of the Buffalo-Indy game this morning and Richardson has been pretty impressive - dang did we draft the right guy ?
Just kidding it's of course way too early to tell about any of these rookie QBs yet, but the Indy QBs athleticism and strong arm
are a potentially potent combo. He did throw a pick in his first series but came back later with a couple of really good-looking passes including one long bomb that basically his receiver dropped.
Oh yea it's going to be a really interesting year on many different subjects, and not the least of which is following all of these QBs drafted this year.

Richardson is who I wanted the Texans to draft. But it'll be awhile before we know who's who in the QB world, and who actually pans out come the real games.

The Nick Bosa holdout officially becomes considerably more expensive today.

As a player in his fifth-year option, Bosa’s fines include $40,000 for each day of training camp missed. Per Article 7, Section 7(h) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Bosa also can be fined a regular-season game check for each preseason game boycotted.

At a base salary of $17.859 million, Bosa can be fined $992,166 for missing today’s preseason game against the Raiders.

The CBA does not prevent the 49ers from waiving the fines, which they likely will do. If they won’t, it will become even more difficult to get one of the best defensive players in football under contract.

So he should be grateful for them lying to him and conning him out of millions of dollars?

They're a bunch of grifters that hid their true nature behind a facade of fake compassion and caring. . .allegedly, of course.
Like I said, they should've just left him on the street.

Should've just left him on the street.

Ungreatful

Read the article.

Oher was already playing at the school. They didn’t take him in off the street. He had other places to stay.

Swooping in when the kid turn 18 saying the paperwork he is signing is like adoption paperwork and it turns out to be conservator paperwork is deceptive predatory.

Sounds like someone found a meal ticket and the meal ticket just found out.

Interesting.
The other side of the story?................One heck of a messy misunderstanding if true.............. :mcnugget:

SEAN TUOHYOHER CLAIMS ARE 'INSULTING'... We Made Little Money Off 'Blind Side'
8/14/2023 3:43 PM PT

Sean Tuohy
is firing back at Michael Oher ... calling BS on all of the former NFL star's "insulting" allegations -- while insisting he and his family made little money off of the success of "The Blind Side."

The 63-year-old -- who was played by Tim McGraw in the 2009 hit movie -- said he was "devastated" to learn that Oher had accused him and his wife, Leigh Anne, of exploiting him for fame and money in a court filing in Tennessee on Monday morning.

Tuohy told the Daily Memphian he never tricked Oher into getting into a conservatorship ... and he certainly didn't make millions off of it either.Instead, Tuohy said the whole ordeal went down because the NCAA told him if Oher wanted to attend Ole Miss -- he'd have to be considered part of the family due to Touhy's status as a "booster" at the school."I sat Michael down and told him, 'If you're planning to go to Ole Miss -- or even considering Ole Miss -- we think you have to be part of the family,'" Tuohy said. "'This would do that, legally.'"

He continued, "We contacted lawyers who had told us that we couldn't adopt over the age of 18; the only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship. We were so concerned it was on the up-and-up that we made sure the biological mother came to court."

Tuohy then said he'd "of course" end the conservatorship if that's what Oher wanted.

As for the allegations that Tuohy used the conservatorship to negotiate a big movie deal with Fox that netted massive profits for him and his family ... Tuohy said that just simply never happened.

"We didn’t make any money off the movie," Tuohy said. "Well, Michael Lewis ['The Blind Side' book author] gave us half of his share. Everybody in the family got an equal share, including Michael. It was about $14,000, each."

Tuohy says he was in no need of cash after he had sold his fast-food franchises for over $200 million.

"I will say it’s upsetting that people would think I would want to make money off any of my children," he said.

Tuohy also told the outlet his family and Oher had remained very close in the years after the release of "The Blind Side" ... though he began to notice a schism forming about a year and a half ago.

"No question, the allegations are insulting," he said, "but, look, it's a crazy world. You've got to live in it. It's obviously upset everybody."

Then the paper trail of receipts will clear up any misunderstanding. I am sure Tuohy will be more than forthcoming with the books and records.

Unless, a business owner with multiple franchises just plum forgot to keep records, or this was some freak natural disaster that destroyed all the records.

Anthony Richardson flashed superstar potential in preseason debut

Published August 14, 2023 11:47 AM

When it comes to rookie quarterbacks playing in the preseason, there’s one primary question to answer. Does he look the part?

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson does.

He has a very strong arm and a lightning-fast release. As noted on Monday’s PFT Live, Richardson’s first-drive interception was a missile delivered flat-footed and falling backward with a flick of the wrist, which came as he rushed in the face of a blitz from a defensive back lined up in the slot.

The Colts will need to give Richardson the kind of coaching any young quarterback needs in order to reach his ceiling. Richardon’s ceiling seems to be high. Very high.

Chris Simms sees some Josh Allen in Richardson. But, remember, Josh Allen didn’t become Josh Allen until his third season. For the Colts, who have used a revolving door of veterans since Andrew Luck unexpectedly retired four years ago this month, patience becomes the key.

Because, with patience, there could be quite a payoff. Richardson could become one of the best quarterbacks in the league — perhaps better than the two quarterbacks picked in front of him, Bryce Young of the Panthers and C.J. Stroud of the Texans.
