NFL Random Thought of the Day

The Patriots / Jags betting lines open with the PATS a 2 point DOG. Wonder when the last time that happened?
Jaguars ain't winning with Blake "game manager" Bortles. The dude reminds me of Matt Leinart aka Matty check down. I heard that Bortles has thrown nearly 80 % of his passes since Week 1 of 2016. All 10 yards or under. Jeez! The kid had such a strong arm in college. Either he's being coached wrong with the Jaguars or he has no confidence to throw it deep.

Although given the talented Jaguars defense, running game and pretty good offensive line. They can likely go 11-5 if Bortles keeps playing with his pampers on. All he has to do is play that type of boring short-yardage passing game. Mr. game manager MVP, Blake Bortles.

and if Fournett is hobbled that means the jags success depends even more on Bortles' arm. The defense will keep it close but the pats will roll.

5 more Colts have been placed on IR:

Chris Cooper S due to a concussion.
Robert Jackson CB due to concussion.
Ronald Martin S due to a shoulder injury.
Robenson Therezie S Therezie due to an unspecified ailment.
James Wright WR after passing through waivers with a knee injury.

I dont bet on NFL football anymore. # Rigged

But if I did I would bet heavily on the Pats.
I get a wild hair and do it every once in a while with my local bookie. Broke even on the game last week. Took Houston and the points, lose. Bet the under (51 o/u), win. I should just quit altogether, but I allow myself about 3 bets a year. And nothing that will cut in to my golf/beer money!

4 more Colts (all secondary) hit IR:

Chris Cooper S IR'ed with a concussion

Robert Jackson CB IR'ed with a concussion.

Donald Martin S IR'ed with a shoulder injury

Robenson Therezie S Therezie IR'ed with an unspecified ailment

Joey Bosa met today with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson to determine extent of injury and how much time he could miss. Anderson examined Bosa’s first MRI last month and found a soft-tissue injury between the first and second metatarsals............although it is being referred to as a bone bruise, this is an MRI finding consistent with a Lisfranc injury.........and, if so, without an associated fracture, the prognosis could be worse.

Worse if no fracture?

Damn, do they even have a secondary left?

A stable Lisfranc injury to the midfoot is when these ligaments are injured (perhaps stretched or partially torn) but not rendered unstable not totally disrupted) can be treated without surgery. This involves a period (often 6 weeks or more) of non-weight-bearing or limited weight bearing followed by a rehabilitation program to regain full function. A displaced Lisfranc injury usually requires surgery to stabilize the injury followed by an extended period of recovery. When the displacement (joint separation) occurs because the ligament is totally disrupted, the ligament cannot be primarily repaired, as ligaments do not primarily heal.

hqdefault.jpg

Therefore, the repair ignores the ligament and pins and/or screws are employed to simply approximate the (unfractured) bones involved........and the hardware must be maintained very long term or even permanently. If not, the joint will again separate and once again become unstable.
lisfranc_fracture_repair_0-large.png

In an unstable Lisfranc joint due to a Lisfranc fracture, the ligament may not be actually torn........the small fracture bone segment separates from the large bone proper creating the joint separation, with the ligament still attached to the segment.

Therefore, the bone segments are reapproximated by pins and/or screws, like any other bone fractures...............bone to bone usually heals well primarily..........and then the hardware may be removed later with the expectations of the repair maintaining stability.

Kailee Wong was on Mad Radio today, said he went and visited with Rick Smith. Says while Smith has taken a step back from the game he is still highly respected, and highly involved with the league office. Even though he technically isn't a part of the competition committee anymore he was still working with the NFL in forming the new rules this year. Also said he could see if Smith came back, him taking a job at the league office.

Free agent Dylan Donahue suspended 14 weeks
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 14, 2018, 8:18 PM EDT

Dylan Donahue isn’t currently on an NFL roster after he was one of the Jets’ final cuts. If he does catch on with another team, he can’t play until Week 15.

Donahue has been suspended 14 weeks for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, ESPN reports.

Donahue entered two guilty pleas during the offseason in connection with two separate driving incidents. In May of 2017, Donahue hit an abandoned vehicle in Billings, Montana, while driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.137. In February of this year, Donahue pled guilty do driving while intoxicated in New Jersey after he drove the wrong way in the Lincoln Tunnel and hit a bus.

A fifth-round draft pick last year, Donahue played in four games as a rookie but may have run out of chances in the NFL.

I dunno could it be that the Dallas formerly known as "America's team" Cowboys OLine prsonnel have been vastly overrated for years ?
That team from Arlington is 6-10, 5-11 material this year. ZERO skill players outside of Elliot. And Dak won't win you a game single handedly like Rodgers can. The Ginger HC should be gone after this year.

I hope so, been done with him for years now.

Will Vontae Davis be paid half his game check?
Since he retired at halftime. I couldn't believe it.
He was 30. A lot of wear and tear but not terribly old.

I liked Vontae Davis also. I remember when the Dolphins traded him to the Colts back in the 2012 preseason during an episode of Hard Knocks. I actually wanted the Texans to acquire him instead of the Colts. To pair up with Johnathan Joseph on the other side.

That Twain Jones Bills returner's head hit was brutal. When he lost his helmet, the play was automatically dead. But the action was so quick, it seemed impossible to stop momentum. Although not a necessity to stop the play, there was significant delay in the ref blowing his whistle.

Teams would be wise not to let age or adversity lower their guard when facing Brady and a better Gordon. I haven't seen Brady limping his throws for 40 yards. The key will be if Beli and Brady can get Josh Gordon to focus and prepare for football.....if they do, put another feather in Beli's hat.

There is a lot of chatter that this will be like Brady and Moss. Gordon is no Moss. And Brady is 10 years older.
Nobody is Randy Moss, but Josh Gordon did have a huge season with the Browns way back in 2013 : 1,646 receiving yards and 9 TDs in 2013. That was before alcohol and drugs ruined his career for the past five years.

Josh Gordon's best season with the Browns is sort of comparable, well actually a lot better, than Randy Moss's production with the Raiders in 2005 and 2006. He had a 1,005 and 8 TD season there in 2005.

And then Randy Moss goes to the Patriots.
He immediately has a 1,493 and 23 TD season in 2007.

Not saying Josh Gordon can do what Randy Moss did... But who's to say he can't be "very good" playing with Tom Brady? Granted, Brady is old now. That would be my only concern. If this were Brady from 10 or 11 years ago I would like the Gordon addition a lot better.

I thought Jabar Gaffney was one of the dumbest wide receivers I've ever seen and an incredible waste of talent (dude had amazing ability but a 10 cent brain), and even he resurrected his career playing with Tom Brady and the Patriots. He looked good enough that the Broncos and Dolphins allowed him to milk an NFL paycheck until 2012.

Josh Gordon is in the best place he can possibly be, IMO.

Looks like the uber driver will sue Winston after all.
Initially she only asked for an apology...

But apparently it was all about the money. $75,000+!
Or so she says his apology wasn't good enough.
Right... Why wait two extra months after the apology then?

Is Jameis Winston done in Tampa Bay?
Especially the way Ryan Fitzpatrick is performing!

Uber driver sues Jameis Winston over alleged groping incident

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...aneers-sued-uber-driver-alleged-2016-incident

TAMPA, Fla. -- The female Uber driver who accused Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston of groping her during a ride in her vehicle, which ultimately led to his three-game suspension by the NFL, has filed a lawsuit against Winston.

She is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 because of the "damages in the nature of emotional distress and future therapy expenses."

In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the plaintiff, identified as "Kate P.", states that despite Winston's three-game suspension, he "issued a hollow apology" in July and "has a history of sexually hostile behavior and appears to be no closer to understanding the impact of his conduct."

The lawsuit, a copy of which was provided to ESPN by the plaintiff's attorney, John Clune, alleges that while waiting in the drive-thru line of Los Betos restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona, in March 2016, Winston was "belligerent" and "leaned toward [her] and placed his fingers between her legs and pressed them firmly against her vagina over her yoga pants."

She looked at Winston, down at his hand, and responded, "What's up with that?" before Winston withdrew his hand, the suit says. She then immediately tried calling her boyfriend before sending him a series of text messages. In one of the texts, she wrote, "I just got semi-molested by the Tampa Bay Buc QB," and that she was "pretty shaken up ..."

-----------------------------------------------------

All this happened in March 2016.
It's now September 2018.
I mean my gosh, will it ever see any closure?

I'm feeling sympathetic for that girl. Jameis Winston is a scumbag. But why wasn't all of this handled a lot sooner? It ultimately came down to wanting a big financial settlement. Not saying $75k is a lot but it's certainly a nice chunk of change. I would probably allow somebody to grope me for a couple seconds if I were given $75,000 or more.

And the way Ryan Fitzpatrick is performing shouldn't Winston be an afterthought? He's lucky he's still in the league after a mere slap on the wrist.

FanDuel mistakenly takes a long-shot bet, refuses to pay off
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 19, 2018, 12:23 PM EDT

As legal sports betting expands across America, more bettors than ever before are placing legal wagers. And in theory, that should make gambling more reliable: A bookie might disappear and stiff you if he owes you a small fortune, but a legal, regulated business shouldn’t.

Unfortunately for a bettor in New Jersey, legal, regulated businesses don’t always pay off either.

FanDuel accidentally listed the Broncos at 750-1 odds at one point during Sunday’s game, and a fan who noticed that put in a $110 bet. The Broncos won, which should have meant the bettor was owed $82,500.

But FanDuel says it obviously didn’t mean to list the Broncos at such long odds, shouldn’t have accepted the bet, and won’t pay it off.

“The wager in question involved an obvious pricing error inadvertently generated by our in-game pricing system,” FanDuel said in a statement.

The bettor, Anthony Prince, says when he tried to collect his $82,500, he was offered $500 and skybox seats for three Giants games. He says a FanDuel employee told him he was lucky to get even that.

“The other guy said, ‘You should take what we give you because we don’t have to give you [anything] at all.’ I said, ‘Wow, for real?’” Prince told 12 News New Jersey.

It’s easy to see where FanDuel is coming from: If some glitch in a system accidentally lists odds at 1 trillion-to-one, and someone wins a bet at those odds, it would seem silly to say FanDuel should be forced to declare bankruptcy because of a glitch. But it still feels like Prince is getting a raw deal. He placed a bet. FanDuel took his money. And then they informed him they weren’t paying. What good is legalizing and regulating betting if problems like this can’t be prevented?

If a fan made this same mistake in betting, what do you think the outcome would be?:choke:

Vince Wilfork was interviewed by TMZ Sports an hour ago. He says Josh Gordon can become the next Randy Moss for the Patriots.

By the way, looking good Big Vince!
He should make a comeback and play for us again.

Aaron Rodgers has “concern” his knee will get worse

On the night Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgersreturned from a knee injury to lead an historic comeback against the Bears, Rodgers said that doctors told him that his condition couldn’t have gotten any worse. Rodgers now concedes that, as he continues to play on the injured leg, it could.

Yeah, obviously that’s a concern,” Rodgers said Wednesday, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. “Hopefully it goes the other way though.”

Rodgers reportedly has a deep bone bruise and a damaged ligament in his knee. He’s wearing a large brace carrying the name “Blue Steel,” and he apparently intends to play as long as he can.

He told reporters on Wednesday that “obviously it won’t be 100 percent, so I’ll just adjust accordingly to how I’m feeling and try to get through.” The Packers didn’t practice on Wednesday, but according to the official injury report he wouldn’t have practiced if they had.

The Packers tied the Vikings on Sunday, but they surely would have lost if Rodgers hadn’t played. Every win while the knee heals is a bonus, because without him last year the Packers fell apart.

I've heard this too many times. No matter what brace or how "heavy" the brace he wears is, it can only offer reliable side-to-side support.........most effective for MCL prophylaxis rather than for an already torn MCL. These braces cannot entirely prevent twisting of the knee, which can certainly further damage an already torn MCL. In college, players, linemen especially are encouraged to wear these braces , but despite this prophylactic maneuver which has been found to be somewhat effective, players still sustain knee ligament injuries while wearing them............including MCLs.

Ditto..

And when the hell are we going to see the Baker man.

Surely..and I mean surely he can't be as bad as Tyrod Taylor.

..and for Christ's sake, as much as I hate Bill O'Brien.. Hue Jackson is FAR WORSE. That guy doesn't belong in the league in any fashion.

I was just thinking our game against Cleveland should be a real stinkfest, but may be the only game we win. I think we see Mayfield soon...my gosh Tyrod Taylor is horrible...

BTW.. I've seen enough of Carlos Hyde.

For as much as we're going to bag on the QBs.. Carlos Hyde sucks and looks like a bust so far. He's a horrible NFL RB.

Never thought I'd say this, but the 6th rounder Alfred Blue is better than the 2nd rounder Carlos Hyde.

If Baker Mayfield doesn't start the second half, Hue might as well sign his walking papers.

Surely he can't be that stupid.

Head injury for Tyrod.

Hue didn't have the option of being stupid. If he had that option he probably would've made the stupid choice. 1-32-1 LOL

The Cleveland Browns: Another team that is better than the Texans in the early going this season. I guess when we play the Browns later this season that's no longer a gimmie win.
