NFL Random Thought of the Day

I believe that he Bengals fierce front 7 are going to have a field day against the Colts. Especially with the Colts OL, Luck will be lucky to make it out of the game alive.

Nelson is a stud though.

When Costanzo makes it back their OL should be a lot better.

When do you think he will be healthy?

The Bengals are so talented but always find a way to choke. I think Marvin Lewis should have been fired four or five years ago. The Bengals will find a way to lose to the Colts, IMO.

He originally suffered the hamstring in the offseason...........returned Aug 1............and a couple days later re-injured hamstring (during the high risk period which I explained for hamstrings in the Injury thread is in the 1st 3 weeks following return to play). Four weeks is a relatively short period of rehab for a re-tear following a substatial initial rehab period. He practiced limited today. He will be pushed back into action ready or not due to the dire need to try to protect Luck. Don't be surprised to see him back on the shelf with another hamstring tear or a compensatory injury within the month.

Steelers oline not f*ck*n' around with how they feel about Bell's absence..

“What do you do? Here’s a guy who doesn’t give a damn, I guess so we’ll treat it as such. I just hate it came to this."
"He’s making 7 times what I make, twice as much as Al (Villanueva) is making and we’re the guys who do it for him.”
"In the ultimate team sport we’ve created a league of individuals."
"My mom died, I went to the funeral and came to camp the next day... Al (Villanueva) has seen people die and has come and given his all to this team."
"It's a little bit tiresome now. I'm tired of the antics."

C Maurkice Pouncey:
"Why play hide and seek? Why let your agent say this? Just man up and tell us what you’re going to do. The business part...I get it. But not if it's game day. We have a game this Sunday, we're all the way into the gameplan and you're still not here?.... At this point, it’s bigger than business.”

G David DeCastro:
"We all thought he'd be here today. He makes us all kind of look stupid a little bit."
"Just sit out the whole year then."

Yikes.

Screw them. It's team first until something happens to you. Prayers and well wishes don't pay the bills. RB has the shortest shelf life in the NFL, OL one of the longer. They're in no position to talk about his contract.

Yeah, Tedy Bruschi said the same thing on ESPN today. He said, those players crossed a line when they started talking about another player's contract.

They weren't pushing the FO to get him signed in the offseason. They weren't pushing for him to get signed long term last year but now Bell should fall in line? Steelers OL and Ben punked out IMO. I don't see Roth taking a cut on his $23M to help bring back their work horse. Pouncey made $11M last season, Bell made $12M. They're nowhere near the same level.

I know this isn't the Denver RB factory from a few years back, but part of me does wonder if Bell's success isn't due to the system. Or at least due to defenses having to make sure Antonio Brown doesn't go off on them.

Actually, Bell would probably do much better here than in Pittsburgh because the defense would have to account for Bell, Watson, Hopkins and Fuller.

I would take Leveon Bell over Miller in a heartbeat.
Same here. If only we could work out a trade with the Steelers and have Le'Veon Bell rushing that rock for us in 2018. But no team is going to give up the type of draft picks the Steelers would be seeking as compensation for the most talented and versatile back in the league.

Not when the teams with massive cap space, like the Texans will have next off-season, can sign him as an unrestricted free agent without having to give up any picks for him.

However, if Le'Veon Bell decides to hold out until week 10 like Duane Brown did with us last year. I could see the Steelers being frustrated enough to deal him for 50 cents on the dollar. If that happens maybe trading for him this season becomes a viable option.

Oh man, put Le'Veon Bell on the Texans.
We'd become the next "greatest show on turf."
Speed for days like those late '90s, early '00s Rams had.

Opposing defenses better hope he doesn't become a Texan.
That could be the missing piece for us, IMO.
I could see us winning a Super Bowl or two if we had Bell.

But oh well. Time to stop dreaming. Let reality play itself out.

Unusual to hear NFL players not have their teammates back on a hassle between the teammate and ownership over a contract, especially when it involves
offensive linemen and their starting running back.

Damn it! Another weather delay! The opening weekend of college football was riddled with them and now this.

At least it's a fast moving storm so it shouldn't be too long.

Well looks like we're going to get a free concert out of it. :)

God..I hope that if we ever win the Superbowl we don't have Andre Johnson out on the field telling all the fans to sing the Clay Walker song, during the revealing of the championship banner in the home opener.
:kubepalm:

Stephen A. Smith, a big Steelers fan, says Le’Veon Bell’s teammates should be “ashamed” of themselves for what they said about the Steelers RB, adding that it was a “punk sucker move.” He also called it a betrayal.

Max Kellerman says the Steelers have to trade him.

I feel like I'm still watching the preseason.
The Falcons vs. Eagles game is a snooze fest. I see more exciting action watching the Drone Racing competition on ESPN2. LOL. Is that even a sport? I guess it requires good hand and eye coordination controlling the drone.

This may be the first Thursday Night NFL opener that I stop watching at halftime. I love football but this game is ridiculously lousy. I also have Carson Wentz on my fantasy football team. A shame he's going to be out a while longer.

You are watching the pre-season. Some the starters did not play 4 quarters of football in four games, much less as a unit.

I watched Foles in the preseason playing against backup players.. he was horrible then too. I think his chariot has turned back into a pumpkin.

I bet even He wishes Wentz was healthy, because the more he plays the more his FA value goes down post his SB performance.

Outside of his playoff run last year, when Foles has been anywhere close to the "man" he really has looked more like this than a real starting QB.

Yeah, I was going to say, his regular season last year wasn't all that. The Eagles offense dropped about 9 points per game or so when Foles took over.

That's why I bet he wishes Wentz was healthy.. his value will never be that high again. Look at the deal Keenum just got.

He's losing money everytime he throws a pass.

This product in tonight’s NFL game is partly due to the lack of time on the field during the preseason. Teams not willing to push their starters more than needed in meaningless games. This is what you get.
Been saying this would be the case in general for NFL teams because of the poor preparation.............you can't play "phantom" ball for months............then wake up one day and be expected to play real football...............

If my memory is working correctly these teams were nowhere near the worse offenders in avoiding playing their regulars.

You don't notice it as much since hitting in the offseason is so minimal and even moreso as there seem to be more and more excuses to have players even fully participate in those practices...............after which it's been more and more the norm to gradually see teams backing off of their starters preseason play time.

Teams are only allowed so many padded practices during camp these days, that's really hurting the quality of football early on.

Is Chris Collinsworth a worse color commentator than Spencer Tillman? All he does is state the obvious. LOL, but he does try to make a joke every now and then as he does it.

I can't stand Collingsworth..he makes my ears bleed and I feel my football IQ dropping just listening to him speak. He says the most obvious **** that should just be implied. When he's the color commentator on a broadcast it's like listening to Captain Obvious from Hotels.com calling the game.

Damn.. there's a flag on every other play in this game.

I've seen more penalties in this game than I did in any preseason game I watched this year.

That was a bad throw by Ryan.. no need for him to lob the ball like that. Jones already had inside position and had the smaller CB boxed out. All he had to do was throw the damn ball to Jones.

That last play of the game. What was Matt Ryan thinking lobbing it up like that in the corner of the end zone? Even if it was the perfect lob and the perfect leaping catch by Julio Jones... The defender was in perfect position to shove Jones out of bounds (mid air) before Jones could get both feet down. It had such a small probability of being a successful Touchdown reception.

I thought Matty Ice would throw it hard somewhere in the middle of the end zone. Looked like he had a couple guys there to fire the rock to. Or even like CB said, just fire the ball right to Jones. He may have still been the right target on a hard pass right on his chest area (not a lob).

Like a play back in 2010 when Schaub hit Andre Johnson for the game-winning Touchdown pass against the Kansas City Chiefs. LOL

I went to bed at halftime. The penalty flags made it damn near unwatchable for me.
And Sarkisian needs to pull his HOA in the red zone! That first drive and NO points? Come on man!

The play calling at the goal line was atrocious...and no need to chase points with Nick Foles playing QB? They did get hosed in the zed zone on another play where the TE was knocked to the ground on a passing play, but that team hasn't been the same since they spit the bit against the Patriots 2 years ago.

Idk why the Falcons pay their RBs. They always forget about them when they need them the most. One of the best OL yet they don't run the damn ball in the redzone.
