Injury Thread

Dell is experiencing a great deal of rib pain. Return to contact play may not occur for a couple more games. Rib contusions, like fractures can be quite painful when breathing, coughing and sneezing..............not to mention exquisitely tender to touch. A flak jacket can be worn once pain is tolerable. Keep in mind that a contused rib can increase the risk for a subsequent fracture, especially if exposed to severe contact before mostly healed.

Rib pain is no joke! But easily manageable once you get past the pain levels.

The Texans official website is pathetic.............here is what they have posted as of 7:11 PM this evening....................no injury listing and still no Thursday report.

The Texans website listing of the Jaguars' Injury Report is not correct........................LB Devin Lloyd is not listed as knee injury that resulted in DNP.....................the severity is not reported by the Jaguars..................if Lloyd can't go Sunday, the Jaguars will be down 2 LBs.

Engram is OUT...................this should be no surprise...................he suffered a very significant Grade II hamstring tear less than 2 weeks ago.

The Texans are definitely manipulating the Injury Reports. Last week, Collins missed Wed's practice then went LP the next day.............reported as hip/ankle in some reports and hip/foot in others. There was even a report that he was not injured, but had suffered an illness. This week he ends up with a hamstring injury that limited his practice..................something that could have easily been due to a compensatory injury due to a lingering hip/ankle or foot injury.

The Texans official Injury Report web page still is posting pathetically incomplete injury information.
Here is yesterday's final report:

Christian Harris continues to have significant debility from his calf tear (I'm beginning to believe his Achilles is involved). Despite being designated eligible to return after fulfilling his 4 week IR stint, the Texans do not feel that they can open up the 3-week window of practice this week for ultimate return.

There is no way that Collins had ANY hamstring injury on last Thursday...........and played the way 3 days later he played last Sunday.

Horton has returned for his 1st practice.............his 3 week window has opened up.....................conditioning will determine whether he makes it back to the active and stays there.

Mixon has not practiced for only contact practice............the Texans have refused to identify his ankle sprain as a high ankle (something I pointed out when reviewing the film of the play in which he was injured)...........I still hope he is not brought back before he is able to play full practice for a full week.

Dell is still quite sore and minimized contact in today's practice............he may try to play with flak jacket and the help of injection.

As I was concerned, his return was too soon, Juice is back on the injury report with a compensatory hip injury.

Barnett suffered a shoulder subluxation...............he suffered a shoulder dislocation in 2018 and missed 1 game; then came back for 2 games wearing a brace, and suffered a re-injury which required a rotator cuff and labral repair in 2018 (missing 9 games).

Hinish returned to practice after being designated for return from IR.

Pierce is still hobbled by his hamstring injury.

Ward's groin tear is still a significant issue..............I would not want him to return to game play this week.........will be a high risk.

Tunsil was having an issue with his knee scope recovery.................I am concerned that this has had something to do with him feeling he needs a "head start" upon the snap of the ball............and that the ankle injury was encourage by a residual knee issue

Hansen's back problem is one that is not good for any player..............much more so for a LB.

[The official game status have not been reported by the Texans]
[keep in mind that Friday practices are not much more than walk-thrus]

Mixon as I predicted DNP today.............he will not play Sunday.

Barnett and Hughes and Howard DNP............they will not play Sunday.

Pierce was back to practice.................no way he should play Sunday.

Tunsil and Dell both practiced and both will probably play, but Tunsil could have a problem finishing the game and his mobility compromise could encourage more false starts.

Woods was back at practice...............he has had significant foot problems in past years resulting in missed games...................expect that he will be utilized in a limited role Sunday if he plays.

Per Aaron Wilson today:

Mixon practiced last Friday on a limited basis and was then held out of Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars as a game-time decision. His status is regarded as week to week, per league sources.

There is no setback with Mixon, per sources, it’s just an injury that takes time to heal up from.

This evidently is as close as you will get to any admission that Mixon has been dealing with a high ankle..................which he has.

Are you willing to venture what grade high ankle sprain Mixon may have? Edit: reason I ask is because it looks like he had two grade 1 ankle sprains in 2021 but didn’t miss any games. At least one was called a high ankle. Data is spotty.

In in the course of the 2021 season, Mixon suffered 2 separate ankle sprains...............both low ankle sprains. The ankle sprain he is now dealing with is a grade II high ankle sprain for which he needs another 1-3 weeks to safely return depending on how his rehab goes.

Thanks. This limbo stuff from the team is really aggravating. If they said grade II my bad but I never saw it. Not even worth worrying about it now for the next couple of games I guess.

The Texans never described the "ankle injury" as to it being high ankle or as to its severity, let alone the grade, which I determined by film and its immediate effect.

CnD do you think the league has control of this language…commenting on the severity of injuries for Vegas betting purposes? If so I’m one foot and four toes out the door on this crap.

The League rules on required reporting injuries is pathetically barebones for the public. The NFL and bookies don't want it any other way, since they usually can get more detailed information through insiders and injury-knowledgeable people. The NFL does not monitor the team injury reporting strictly, and with so much egregious dishonesty, they seldom punish teams for anything related to injury reporting. So many things in reporting on its face can be of very useless value to opponents, bookies or fans...................just one example, a player in practice can be listed as LP (limited practice) if he takes 99% of the reps............or if he takes only 1% of the reps.

I don't gamble, but if I did, I would have quite an advantage just by reviewing film of injury plays, learning how the player responds immediately and later, etc.

NFL 2017 Personnel (Injury) Report Policy

Hansen, a LB with any back issue should not be playing without a full week of FP.. Back issues, even muscular rather than disc, do not resolve themselves in 1 week. With a fresh core injury, not allowing the injury to resolve and returning to play too early, not only encourages extension of the injury, but significantly increases the risk of compensatory lower extremity injuries.

Howard only incurred his hamstring a few days ago..................he returned too soon to just have a LP, but that was enough to not be able to participate at all for a Fri walk-thru................he should have at least 2 more weeks of rehab before returning.

Collins didn't take his original hamstring injury seriously and was only officially on the injury report for 1 day, as a LP on Thurs week 4, then to FP onFri walk-thru. With this being essentially a recurrent hamstring, his rehab should be a multiweek one to minimize recurrence or compensatory injury

From what I understand, Harris is still suffering issues with his calf tear and will not be activated this week for return.

Collins has been placed on IR for his right hamstring. Bringing players back too soon continue to happen and this is the results...............possibly gaining 1 game, while assuring that subsequently many more games are lost.

Some have noted that Collins walked off the field evidently being fine. Many players sustaining serious lower extremity injuries can still walk like what appears to be normal.
