Injury Thread

Finally, I find out that today's practice was a "phantom" practice.....i.e., a walk-thru. The Injury Report is an estimation of what the player would be able to do if it were not a "phantom" practice............wonder who helped with the estimation..........Las Vegas? The only "phantom" practice that has been reported.......and not on the official HoustonTexans.com report.

Last game, the Colts were missing their top CB Kenny Moore to a back injury he actually sustained in the preceding Friday practice. The Colts are saying Moore will play Saturday. But even a Grade I back strain safely requires a full 2-3 week rehab. If he plays just 8 days post injury, I don't know how effective he will be or if he makes it through the game.

Not exactly a promising Injury Report............

I've discovered that Brown's back problem is a fractured transverse vertebral process. The injury is not dangerous short-term or long-term because this structure despite fracture, is stabilized by strong muscles. It is an adjacent muscle spasm pain tolerance issue. Even with extensive padding or bracing and injections, it would be hard-bent to believe he could return to play short of 2 weeks post injury (true healing time being ~6 weeks).

Most of the players on the Injury Report won't play..............or shouldn't play Saturday. Because of the importance of the game, some will be warriors to the end............others will be cripples in the end.

Who is most at risk for re-injury or some kind of potential permanent damage should they play?

(Obviously not including those already ruled out)

Woods aggravated the groin tear he suffered in August 21 and missed the final 2 games of the season. He had surgery in late December. Woods tore his groin in a joint practice with the Browns in mid-August. He missed the final 3 preseason games. Now though they call Woods' injury a "hip" injury, as I've posted previously, the Texans use adductor groin injury interchangeably with hip injury since the adductor is a hip flexor. And if this is a hip labrum tear, besides a risk for another compensatory injury, there a distinct risk of extended cartilage damage if continued to be played on.

**********************************

The Texans are reporting Woods is a true game-time decision due to painful hip injury. They say that should he be able to have some ability to run during pregame, he'll attempt to play. Didn't practice and rehabbed all week after getting hurt against the Titans only 6 days ago.

If he has some ability to run during pregame??????????? With any painful hip problem, what about changing direction, stopping and pushing off???????
This is getting stupid desparate. :toropalm:

Hughes sustained a "minor" low ankle sprain. Although 1 week is not to rehab even a Grade I sprain. I expect him to be well-injected and heavily taped........and put out there against the Browns. If this comes to be, his performance will be compromised if not curtailed before game's end.

Greenard was diagnosed as a Grade I low ankle sprain mid Dec. His rehab has gone slowly.

While it can be tempting to shrug off an ankle sprain as a minor injury and carrying on with normal practices, when ankle sprains don't heal correctly, you increase your risk of developing a condition called chronic ankle instability and/or compensatory injuries.

Justin Hopkins Browns kicker has a left Grade II hamstring. Even though he kicks with his right foot, there is no way he is able to kick without a plant foot. He was injured attempting to tackle RB Dameon Pierce as he returned Hopkins' 63-yard kick for a 98-yard touchdown.

The Texans are insisting that Anderson did not aggravate his high ankle injury against Indianapolis, but I watched him carefully and it was obvious that he was significantly compromised especially with attempts to adjust direction.

You don't take 4 trips to the blue medical tent during a game for a Margarita break. :chef:
Looked like pretty bad at the end of the game.

The Questionables for Texans......Anderson (ankle), Beck (calf), Brown (back), Greenard (ankle), Collins (hip), Rankins (shoulder), Woods (hip) would not be a consideration to return. But desparation will unfortunately direct decisions.........and doctors will succumb to team pressures.

All the QUESTIONABLES on both sides will either ultimately not play OR shouldn't under any semblance of normal circumstances. Both sides have a lot to prove in this game. Both sides, even though they don't publicly say it fear failure and essentially see failure as an embarrassment to their masculinity. It's a male thing, you know.

Keep in mind that this practice, despite being in the cold, was so light that it was almost a walk-through. It would be hard bent to make much out of anyone's participation or non participation.

Few hours ago found this on Will Anderson being off injury report
Texans EDGE Will Anderson (ankle) has been removed from the injury report and will be active for the Divisional Round.
The sensational rookie was utilized in his typical role for the Wild Card Round and seems to have avoided setbacks. He’s probably not particularly close to 100 percent healthy, but the Texans are going to need a big play or two from the No. 3 overall pick to have a legitimate shot at springing the Ravens upset.
