Injury Discussion Thread

It took Dell over 3/4 of the regular season to look like his normal self following the injuries and gunshot wound he sustained this past offseason.

I’m sure he will work very hard to rehab his injuries and the team will say otherwise but you cannot count on him being a significant factor next season. Best case scenario it’ll be a similar outlook of at least 3/4 season before you see a threatening Tank. But now he is rehabbing a worse set of injuries.
We're just spitballing, waiting for the medical expert to chime in, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's out all next year.

Using Nick Chubb as an example (though his injury occurred earlier in the season):

Chubb returned to the lineup week 7 and was not the player he was prior to injury… before again getting injured.

If Tank returns at all next season I don’t expect rookie year or Saturday’s Tank to be around.

CNND already posted this in the other injury thread, but I think that one is just for the news and not discussion -

I'm not sure Dell will be able to return from this, and I don't know what the "other damage" is. Maybe Cloak can discuss his thoughts.
Watching the play of injury, it still looks like a knee dislocation. With a knee cap dislocation and ACL already admitted to, a PCL and an MCL is also typically commonly damaged. No doubt, he will have suffered meniscus and articular cartilage damage. Returning to football will be on the unlikely side............returning to previous performance, beyond a miracle.

How long before D. Johnson is on the injury report for lacking heart?
Or will that be another cover up?

As expected, Anderson's hand heavily bandaged at today's very light practice.

Did he break it on Saturday? If there is any unit where the team has the luxury of resting players its DE with Hughes being a healthy scratch. Anderson/Hunter need to be ready for playoff football, they are two of the five-six most important players on the team. And if one or both aren’t healthy i’d rather they rest.

From the way it is bandaged, I would suspect that it is an ulnar collateral ligament sprain of the thumb.

Here's what I posted previously in the Injury Thread...........

And in the Injury Discussion Thread..............

Officially now, Dell dislocated his knee and tore his MCL, LCL, as well as ACL, with significant meniscus damage............and although not specified, I guarantee you that he sustained articular cartilage damage.

The media and many medical "experts" touting a dislocated knee cap was laughable.

Dell sadly will be looking at multiple surgeries and a very long road to recovery..................with my initial impression now even stronger................".Returning to football will be on the unlikely side............returning to previous performance, beyond a miracle."

Stroud's tears were not wasted on Tank..................may Tank be blessed to return to a good life with or without football.
Maybe Tank should talk to Lindsey Vonn.

Boy, wouldn’t that be a story! :D

Kendrick Green filled in pretty good for against a good defense. You are probably the only one that thinks he sucks.

You think Caserio is telling Demeco how to run his team? Again, you are probably the only one that thinks that.

Caserio put together a better o-line last year working the waiver wire and through trades than the one we have seen this year. That tells me it has more to do with coaching.

Am I saying Caserio is great at evaluating o-line? No. But I ain’t saying he sucks either. The worst o- line under Caserio has been this year. No coincidence based on the offensive coaching.

Green and Howard can be cut next year for cap savings from what I heard here.

I believe Mason also throws 9.5M back in cap savings after June1.

That's ~1/2 to get Trey Smith  if that's even possible. KC managed to keep Chris Jones while most Talking Heads were saying they could not fit him under the cap with the other players they needed . That's what they're saying about Smith now . I am about over these huge high-risk gambles for high dollar free agent vets like Hunter and trades like Diggs. I am more interested in drafting players and training them up . Of course, that means you have to have good trainers and we do not .

The Texans won’t have a pair of defensive linemen for Sunday’s regular-season finale.
Defensive end Denico Autry (knee) and defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi (ankle) will sit out against the Titans.
Cornerback Jeff Okudah (concussion) and offensive guard Shaq Mason (knee) also are out.

As far as I’m concerned….Mason can stay injured until the season is officially over.

Also cornerback Jeff Okudah was practicing as he seeks to return from a concussion, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports. Linebacker Christian Harris (ankle) and edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. (hand) also were on the practice field.

Well there goes the defense. I was hopeful for Okudah when he came aboard but he has not been successful.
Just need a run from him now, some players come up big when it matters, some play great when it doesn’t and fade in the big games, these are all big games from here on out whether the Texans want to be involved next week or not.

Autry is a big miss, this DL is damn good without him, when it’s him who’s subbing in all over that line it sends it over the top, hopefully we have enough to beat the Chargers and get Autry back the following week.

I think Autry will play. He’s a “”junkyard dog” or whatever adjectives Nick came up with for him when signed. Its the playoffs, he’ll play injured and compromised.

Agreed.

I'm even thinking about dusting off the Ol' 23 jersey. Muirray has had an impact this season.

I will never root for players being injured, but having said that, I'm kind of relieved that Mason is most likely out for this game. He's looked slow and uninspired. Maybe that's a function of not calling protections properly, but regardless of the reason, his performance has been his performance.

Okudah needs to play like a pro bowler who wants an extension and I just don't see how that's going to happen against the chargers. Also, agree with you on Autry. I have him as a post June 1st cut with a savings on the cap of 9 million dollars. He will be 35 before the season starts. I'm okay with a post June 1st trade if we can get anything as it will bring us the same cap savings.

The team reporting that Fatukasi, Metchie, Hansen, and Okudah all practiced and ready to play Saturday.............Mason is not.

Again, keep in mind that today's practice was also a walk-thru. The Texans are pushing those players into playing without really being rehabbed and ready. Desperation.
The good news is we should be better without them on the field.

Okudah and Metchie are coming back from concussions, I can see them being ready. Fatukasi, who knows, but they really need him to be healthy and playing well. Hansen?

It's the playoffs.
edit: sorry, wrong thread.

I’m surprised he hasn’t had surgery yet. Any idea why it’s taken so long for the first?

Not a doctor, but something tells me they had to get the swelling under control before going in for the repair.

Swelling, blood resorption from the site, and inflammation needs to mostly resolve before tissues can be expected to "hold" repair...................otherwise it could be like trying to sew wet toilet paper.

Christian Harris didn’t seem to appear on yesterday’s injury report, took 7 defensive Snaps vs Chargers and not seen again.

Was this situational that DeMeco preferred Henry in that matchup, or is there an injury aggravation that isn’t being reported?

I think it was both. Matchup in that they trusted Henry more to make the right reads (particularly in run defense). Henry has improved a lot this season and given how much football Harris has missed he’s the better option in the team’s eyes as LB2. Maybe this week Harris shows enough in practice to change their mind.

And also Harris is still working his way back from injury/game shape.

@CloakNNNdagger

Doc, in reference to San Antonio basketball player Wembanyama and his deep vein thrombus. I am surprised not to hear of this more in football players. Do you have any thoughts on this subject?

Studies have shown that the taller a person (>6'3"), the higher the risk of DVT (deep venous thrombosis). This is especially increased for those (>6'3") who air travel........................particularly for long trip OR frequent trips....................NBA teams fly hundreds of times during the regular season and playoffs.
