It's weird. I believe the anti-Bieneimy crowd would be all in on him...if Watson didn't advocate for him. Anti-Bieniemy = Anti-Watson.
My concerns about EB have zero to do with Watson. I’m concerned that he has interviewed for three years now and never been hired as a HC. I’m concerned that before Mahomes the KC offense was ok at best and they had no more success than we have had the last 5 years. I’m concerned about how much is EB and how much is Reid and Im concerned about hiring another first time HC when the franchise is in much worst shape than what OB inherited.

I couldn’t care less who Watson advocates for and I’m not saying I’m anti-Bieneimy. I am saying that there are a lot of red flags and I’m not sure he has shown enough to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling about him as our new HC.

If he’s hired, great, I’ll support him like I would any new HC but I can’t say he would be my first choice either.

Funny how we're the only team who didn't hire a HC before Conference Championship weekend. I wonder what those coaches are doing now. Why is it that,it seems, teams want their HC in place so early.

The combine is at the end of February right? Surely a coach can do what needs to be done & be ready for the combine.

But he won't get any time off. He'll be at the grind for two years straight before he can take a break.

I’m concerned about how much is EB and how much is Reid
& how much is Mahomes & how much is Kelce & how much is Hill. I 100% agree you here. Too many reasons for KC's success. Kind of like NE coaches without Brady.

Agreed, 100%

They had a zoom meeting with the guy. How can they possibly know for sure this is the guy they want?

Do the Texans really want to take the chance on Frazier over EB? Because, we all know who the clear choice is, the problem is that the Texans will get in their own damn way, which means they are going to hire Frazier

Well, if you're running an organization and you have a key vacancy, why wait to hire someone to fill that vacancy when you have interviewed/vetted a handful of very qualified candidates?

In the case of the Texans specifically, there are a lot of decisions the HC and GM need to make together before the draft. They first need to evaluate their own players. That's what those new coaches are doing now with their respective teams. That's what Meyer is doing with the Jaguars.

The Texans are behind the curve. They've dragged their feet once again. They didn't even bother interviewing Robert Saleh. But they interviewed Tim Kelly before they interviewed EB.

And you're asking about how much of the Kansas City Chiefs is Kelce, Hill, and Mahomes. Same question can be asked of the Patriots with Caserio and Brady.

After one of the, if not the most disappointing seasons in team history, the Texans are not off to a very good start to their off-season. IMO, of course.

Yes. I specifically stated as much.

Yes. This is my retort to the “Why hasn’t Bieniemy been hired before.” His team has reached the AFCCG the last three seasons. Teams don’t like to wait this long.

I think Leslie Frazier is the favorite for the Texans’ job. And the Bills’ defensive coordinator, as I see it, is exactly what Houston needs—a sort of adult in the room. I also know that Frazier feels good enough about it to the point that he’s assembled the foundation of a coaching staff (I’d heard Marcus Brady was on it, but he comes off the table now, with the Colts having promoted him from QB coach to offensivecoordinator). Now, whether the Texans go through with a full second round of interviews (Eric Bieniemy is still in the mix for the job, too) remains to be seen. And maybe how Sunday went will have an effect on that. But if Frazier gets the job, I really think it’s a good example of how an organization backing a candidate can help. Bills co-owner Kim Pegula felt so strongly about Frazier that she planned to bring him with her to the league’s annual meeting last year (before it was canceled) to get him in front of owners so they could see what she did. Similarly, the coaches, scouts and everyone else seem to be rooting for him here. Which says something about who the guy is. We’ll see where it goes, but good on the Bills for going to bat for Frazier—there’s a reason why that place is becoming one where people want to work.

Some suggesting we will hire loser of chiefs vs bills. Loser team signs losing HC. Why Can't we get it the running car? I know let's hide in the cemetery! Tell bieneimy you're going to hire him and then announce it when you can.

For some reason teams don’t want to wait until after Super Bowl weekend to hire a HC.

Main reason I’ve been speculating Bieniemy has not been hired before. Heck this year everyone but the Texans hired their HC before championship weekend.

So I’ve just been speculating we’ll hire whoever lost.

49ers - Kyle Shanahan
Colts - Frank Reich
Lions - Matt Patricia
Dolphins - Brian Flores

Were all hired the day after the their teams were in the SB..

Well there goes that argument. There's no good reason for teams to have passed on Bieniemy. They obviously know something we don't & it would probably backfire on the Texans if we hire him.

Who interviews for the biggest job of their life while eating? I know it's not much to go on, but when you put it together with the reports that Bienemy doesn't interview well, to me, it points to Bienemy having a 'this is who I am, deal with it' attitude. Doesn't bother me in the least but if that's really true, then it might explain why he hasn't been hired before now. He strikes me as the kind of person that's going to tell it like it is and not be afraid to let ownership what's what. Basically, just what's needed around here if you ask me. Not sure if he can half replicate what's going on up in KC but I don't think that he's any less of a risk than anyone else as far as delivering results.

If I remember correctly I've seen the suggestion of hiring the loser outside of this MB.

Does it really matter who they hire with Easterby in McNair's ear and Casserio running decisions through them. Same old dog and pony show.
It should matter to the players who the HC is. If Easterby's influence is inside the locker room, though, maybe it really won't matter. And from what I've read and heard, Easterby is very much a presence with the players. He has a lot of contact with them. Some may like him in their business (see Charles O.), others may not.

I dislike how the media is trying to force the Texans to make a minority hire for HC just because all but one of the other teams who hired HC's did not. How about they butt out and let McNair/Caserio hire who they want to hire.

Absolutely ridiculous.
Ya. We're getting 2021ed. And we're the perfect candidate to get "made an example of" and force to "bend knee."

Bad team management in disarray, historical failure, bitchy players, reputation of "being racist," being a Texas-based team (nevermind Houston being one of the most melting pot cities in the entire country), etc.

The Texans have a target on their back. And we will conform regardless.

We of course know billion dollar brands don't tell their audience to go scratch and on the contrary actually go out of their way to appease and fellate.

meh....now that Casino is in charge (supposedly) they're letting him do a lot of interviewing. There's still no telling who we'll end up with.

Maybe they'll cave and hire Watson as the OC to placate him. He can keep Tim Kelly as his assistant.

Clint Stoerner just had KC analyst Danon Hughes on talking about Bienemy basically being as I described. Stoerner commented that he didn't think Bienemy would work here because of the brass here not being able to control him. Hughes' response was 'how's that working for you' in regards to hiring people in their comfort zone. Makes me want Bienemy all the more. Frazier was milquetoast in Minnesota and I'm afraid that he's going to be the hire because of his amenable personality.

None of those insiders know. To me it's either EB or Frazier. If they were going to hire Eberflus or Caldwell, they could've done it already. Same with Lewis. Some of these interviews may hay be a look at a staff.
this what I think I think, but really

-Think we agree the finalists are Frazier, Bieniemy, Caldwell

Wilson
-Caldwell should be given serious consideration, serious weight
-You start thinking about staffing, you start thinking about Tim Kelly as OC/play-caller
-Jim is the only 2nd interview; was told to weigh that very heavily
-As of the time of this podcast, no 2nd interviews set up with any other candidates; that can change in a New York second
-Frazier/Bills didn’t end the season well but Mahomes does that to a lot of people
-Bieniemy was impressive and so were the Chiefs; have to weigh his candidacy
-EB brings a lot of energy, good ideas
-Caldwell brings experience, very good with QBs, steady person; know Jim from Flacco/Ravens Super Bowl run; Jim has good feel for QBs
-All would be first permanent black coach; relatable to the locker room
-Texans intentional about making sure that diversity is a priority
-Very qualified coaches
-Would be shocked if they went outside the candidates they have now
-If it doesn’t happen this week, fairly obvious what’s happening and have changed gears and could go with Eric
-Imagine sometime this week, Caldwell or Frazier
-Caldwell felt very good about 2nd interview; told friends it was the best interview he’s ever had; he came away with a good feeling
-Dungy has spoken highly of Caldwell; many in NFL have respect for Jim

McClain
-Dungy also recommended Frazier; I think they’ll hire Frazier; did a great job with Buffalo defense; has personality they’re looking for, as does Caldwell
-Spoke with 2 people been with the Bucs a long time, said he reminded them of Dungy; people in Minnesota hopes he gets a 2nd chance; Buffalo thinks highly of him too
-Personality like Kubiak
-I’d like to see them if they hire Frazier, hire Caldwell as assistant HC, keep Romeo Crennel on staff

Wilson
-McCown was surprising but knew he has a strong relationship with Easterby; has HC aspirations; turned down Eagles OC job before; everyone views him as having a bright future in coaching; has coached HS football; kinda acted as a player-coach; team should take the brunt of it, not him; puts him in the cycle for the future; expect for him to play for the Texans in reserve capacity; do not expect him to get the job; maybe he’s part of it down the road in some sort of succession; he’ll be a guy on the rise very fast
-Josh would handle it fine but doesn’t have that background
-Interview was in person; went fine; backlash was tough on social media but can’t fault Josh; highly regarded by the organization; good relationships in the building; good relationship with Watson
-Won’t be getting the job but he’ll have a job in the future; wouldn’t bet against McCown

McClain
-Can’t believe Easterby convinced Caserio to interview McCown officially
-Should hire McCown as assistant QB coach or QB coach and let him work his way up
-Everyone thinks he’s HC material; felt bad for him

Wilson
-Has background with Jack but Nick won’t interview anybody he doesn’t want to have interviewed
-Nick is very quiet; does not volunteer information; candidates came away feeling good because he won’t show his hand; had people tell me he’s a good poker player
-With Caldwell & Josh, heard it’s either get the job or nothing; not get this other title if it doesn’t work out; Josh, if he doesn’t get the coaching position, then he won’t be moving to a coaching position right now; same with Caldwell; don’t foresee like Frazier as HC and Caldwell as assistant HC; stranger things have happened

It’ll take me awhile to come around to the idea of Daboll or Frazier getting the job, seeing as both were just thoroughly outclassed by the team running the AFC for the next few years. I mean for two guys interviewing for jobs, they could not have had worse performances.

The line the stuck out the most to me was when Romo said “every yard looks tough”. Zero adjustments after the half on O and Frazier didn’t seem bothered at all leaving Kelce WIDE open repeatedly.

But if one of them gets hired, I have no choice but to let them stake their claim.

I gotta admit, some of those plays Bieniemy was running were works of art. & the way you'd see the "same" play ran out of different personel packages had me thinking the Texans could do some of that.
