Man, I completely forgot those ducking (5) Pick 6’s…..that bahstard!!!

I guess it would only be appropriate to send Ol’ Warren a thank you note for his ugly record setting performance…..it got me a free ticket to the Super Bowl that season.

Yeah, if only Moon had played defense, been a kicker, built the roster to include a FB and TE so they could actually run the clock with a 33 point lead, be a head coach and assistant coaches, refereed, and all the other functions of the entire team that melted down that day.

But yeah, let's blame one man, the one guy that threw 19 of 22 passes for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first half (after missing the previous five straight games due to injury). :ok:

The intellectual challenge is real.

Hey Mary Kay............Stephanski and the Browns are really smart getting Watson ready to play for week I by giving him most of the 1st team reps, evidently planning on an injunction in Federal court. Meanwhile, Brissett needs the reps and is playing waterboy and will probably look like it week I. Please encourage your team to give Watson all the 1st reps. That should make the Brown even better this season. And go ahead and play him in the preseason games.........another fine decision...........low return.........high risk........another Browns worthy decision. :chef:

Kevin Stefanski acknowledges ‘we have to get Deshaun (Watson) ready to play’ amid uncertainty over his suspension
By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com

BEREA, Ohio — Kevin Stefanski admitted there’s a method to his madness for giving Deshaun Watson most of the first-team reps through the first seven days of Browns training camp.

In addition to establishing him as the leader of the team, he knows the reality of the situation: with so much uncertainty surrounding Watson’s suspension, anything is still possible, including him playing early on in the season while a potential legal battle ensues.

“We’ll let that play out, but we’ve got to get Deshaun ready to play,’’ Stefanski said before Day 8 of Browns training camp. “He hasn’t played football in a year. We’ve got to get Jacoby (Brissett) ready to play. He’s potentially going to be playing early for us and starting and we’re going to be counting on him.

“Same thing for (Josh) Dobbs and and (Josh) Rosen. Those guys have to be ready to play. So I just look at it as we’re going to use every opportunity we have out here, individual drill, post-practice, during practice, we’ve got to get all these guys ready to play.’’

The NFL has appealed Watson’s six-game suspension by NFL Disciplinary Officer Sue L. Robinson, and is seeking a minimum year-long suspension, as well as an appropriate fine and treatment.

The NFLPA will respond to the appeal by the end of the day Friday, but the union is poised to sue in federal court if it doesn’t like the outcome. If the union secures an injunction, Watson could end up on the field earlier than expected this season, possibly even in the opener in Carolina depending on what the courts say.

“I think all of these scenarios you have to be ready for,’’ Stefanski said. “Again, like we’ve talked about all along, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about various scenarios. Just deal with what’s in front of us.”

As for whether or not he feels confident with Brissett starting most or all of the season, he said, “I’m not going to go too far into the future and what’s coming. I’ve tried, and I’ve asked the players to do this, so I’m going to try to do the same. I’m going to take a one-day-at-a-time approach and focus on the day and focus on what we have in front of us, which is practice. All those conversations are probably for another time.”

Still, he hopes the fans remain excited about the 2022 season regardless of the length of Watson’s suspension.

“Like we’ve mentioned, we’re excited for this season as a team,’’ he said. “The guys are very excited about 2022. You mentioned the fans, we’ve definitely felt the energy from these fans. In terms of specifics past that, I don’t know it’s that time yet. But yeah, I think the guys are excited about the work they’ve put in so far and they’re certainly looking forward to competing come September.”

Stefanski hinted he might play Watson some in the preseason game next Friday night in Jacksonville.

“These preseason games will be an opportunity to play when it’s a game setting and the defense can come after you and you’re truly in a game,’’ he said. “I think that that’ll really be more when you get closer to getting reps than say at practice.’’

It’s not the first time Stefanski has had to get a quarterback ready to replace a starter for most or all of the season. In 2017, as quarterback coach of the Vikings, he helped guide Case Keenum to an 11-3 record and the NFC championship game in place of an injured Sam Bradford.

“I definitely use my experiences in the past to help inform me now,’' he said. “And that was also a unique situation. So I definitely lean on some of those experiences. I had other experiences. Think about when (Brett) Favre came in to the Vikings late the process, when Sam Bradford got to the Vikings, a late trade after Teddy (Bridgewater’s) unfortunate injury.

“A lot of the coaches here that have spent a lot of time in this league have seen a bunch of different things when it comes to guys becoming available and then getting them ready to play and having an offseason to get a guy ready to play.’'

He noted that there are plenty of reps to go around for Watson, Brissett and the two Joshes, and that he’ll make the most of all of them.

Meanwhile, Watson’s teammates are doing the best they can to carry on.

“It’s only a distraction if you turn on the TV and you’re listening to it and everything like that,’' guard Wyatt Teller said. “I don’t have any social media, so I stay away from everything. It’s been pretty quiet, at my household at least. But I know that it’s the talk of the town, there’s got to be something to talk about. Obviously it’s big, but we’re focused so much on what we’re doing.’'

He acknowledged they want to know the final outcome.

“Obviously we want to know what’s going on and be done with it,’' he said. “If any team was in that situation, that’s what they’d want. We’ve got to, like I said, worry about your individual thing and kind of let that be handled by whoever’s in charge.’'

Teller commended Watson for his demeanor in camp.

“He’s the same person every day,’' he said. “He comes in ready to work. I know that this is in a way a release. I know everybody’s got something to say, they’ve got an opinion on him. Football is where you kind of get away from that.’'

Cornerback Greg Newsome II agreed that he’s eager for a resolution.

“At the end of day we’ve got to find a way to win games, whether he’s out there or whether he’s not,’' he said. “They’re going to take their time with it and we’ve just got to focus on ourselves.”

They are talking about letting him play a few plays in the first game. Now, even though he is allowed to practice and play on pre season, it still won’t look good for the NFL for clips of him in a game to be all across the headlines.

Or been able to lead his offense to 5-7 1st downs in the 2nd half.

Let's just face the facts. Moon was the leader of a team that had the biggest playoff choke in NFL history. He followed that up by choking against the Chiefs in the 2nd half and lead to the Oilers leaving the city. For these things I dont think he should be in the HOF despite his gaudy stats. This period of Houston football is when I learned to not believe the stats because stats aren't the be all end all.

This doesn't even mention Moon's personal life and his apartment for his GF that he impregnated. (She died in a plane crash) Or Felicia spending a bunch of money because he was spending time with his GF. For her troubles Moon beat her azz.

You think this place is a mad house. I got bored last night so I went rubbernecking on the Browns board.. Jesus Christ, it's a dog eat dog world over there right now.

No kidding, I’ve been popping on their various forums since he was traded, what can I say I watch racing for the car crashes, and the only think I keep thinking is “Glad he’s Cleveland's problem” and “They traded three 1st round picks for this?”

What would you expect?.............it's a Dawg Pound without separate crates! I haven't stepped foot into any Cleveland boards.......I can just imagine.

Who is talking about it? Who would even suggest such a thing? When was the last time they let any suspended player play a few snaps first?

What about Dan Fouts? I don't know what his off field life got to do with his on the field play.

I don't think Fouts is a HOFer either. He choked against the oilers in the Rob Carpenter/Vernon Perry game.

When you have an unstable personal life, it usually bleeds over into your professional life.

Moon's bad people. Just like Derrick.

Thing is, nobody know what these guys do in their private life. Did anyone know Favre was a functioning drug addict? What about Jim Kelly and Marino? None of that stuff matters when you get on the field or court. What did LT bring from off the field to on the field? We don't even have to go back to Dimmaggio and some of those dudes. The hall of fame is about on the field accomplishments, nothing else.

Notice how most of the guys you listed don't have rings. Not every guy has to be a boy scout, but winners seem to put their jobs 1st. Particularly the leaders of a team.

Since JimmyG was hanging out with porn stars and haven't won a championship, should we add him to the list? :kitten:
I don't care who somebody dates. That's their business.

He took care of his business well enough to make it to a SB and only dated a porn star in the off-season.

BTW, that's 1 more SB than Moon has made it too. Also he's made it to 2 more AFCCg than Moon. In short professionally and personally Moon is a loser. Unless you don't have a problem with him sexually harassing women or beating his wife. Of course after reading some posters in this thread, they don't have any issues with this type of behavior. Surprisingly this comes from me, because I believe in giving guys 2nd chances like Hunt/Hill who haven't had any issues after being given a 2nd chance.

You can put your job 1st, like pretty much all the hall of famers or all pro players and still not win a ring. Why? Because the nfl is a team game, not a solo sport like tennis or golf. JJ was awesome, how many rings he has? LaDanien was awesome, how many he got. Your greatness isn't defined by a ring. Joe Thomas is one of the absolute greatest lineman ever and he never made the playoffs. Is that his fault?

Jimmy G has 4 tds and 6 ints in 6 playoff games. 71tds and 38 ints during the regular season.

And most importantly made a ab and was a dropped int from another SB while playing with a torn rotator cuff. This is another case where numbers lie. I expect Lance to put up better numbers than Jimmy G but the team not do as well. This is when the excuses will start rolling in. Even though Lance will be playing with the same loaded team that Jimmy G was supposedly playing with.

There's a reason some teams fold like the Oilers/Texans did and others don't. It's called leadership. You can't find leadership on a star sheet. Some crumble under the pressure ( non Hof IMHO) and some thrive under the pressure. (HOF)

I'm not sure how you noticed that, because literally most of the guys he listed have rings..

What did that dropped int have to do with his 4tds and 6 ints? What happened to the last drive vs the Rams when the run game was out of the picture? 17-7 with 1:46 left in 3rd qt and they lost 20-17. Did he choke or does those stats not count? On the last drive, the team gained 3 yds and Jimmy G threw an int> What stats are those?

Not following you, but

He drove his team 90ydsin less than 2 mins against the Rams to make the playoffs with a torn rotator cuff. If not for that clutchness the 49ers wouldn't even made the playoffs. Then lead his team to victory in Dallas in the playoffs. Then lead his team in sub zero temps in Lambeau to a GW FG. Something Rodgers couldn't do. Then was a dropped int away from making their 2nd SB in 3 yrs. Give me this over a bunch of meaningless stats like the ones Derrick put up. Lets see if Lance can do this, this yr. I'm guessing not. I like guys that are likely to come thru with the game on the line and those guys are rare.

He listed Favre, Kelly, Marino, Taylor, and DiMaggio.. 3-2 with rings.. Fair enough about Fouts from a previous post.. even then 3-3..

I dont consider Favre's career to be a success. He was an underachiever. IMHO

DiMaggio shouldn't even be considered since MLB is a totally different sport from the NFL.

Then lead his team to victory in Dallas in the playoffs.
The only reason SF won that game was because Dallas pulled a dallas. Sheer stupidity on Prescotts part. If he would have gone down after making first down and called timeout, Dallas would have won... or at least sent it to OT

Man alive.....there's so much more that goes into the equation than stating the whole win/loss thing can be isolated to one individual. There's not one great/awesome QB of any Super Bowl winning/losing team that came to the mic after the game and announced "he" was the one responsible for getting his team to the Super Bowl. To my recollection.....every last one of them recognized the team they were surrounded with.

No one asked what you consider about Favre's career, you simply tried to make a point about who got rings and who didn't. Point blank. And of course DiMaggio played baseball, but rings are rings directly relative to the point of the discussion. And he was one of the ones mentioned, as you pointed out.

Ii was trying to give a reference point as to why some players under achieve and some don't. Favre is one of those guys.

Do WNBA championships count as much as NFL championships.?

Why are you even responding to me? You've said you don't like me and I spend zero amount of time thinking about people who I don't like. But hey man to each their own.

Agreed, but QB play in clutch situations along with reliable FG kicking often decides many more games than not.

Dallas scoring if he had gone down was far from a given. However, thanks for making my point of the QB playing well in the clutch. Dak cost his team a chance at winning because of decision making at the end of that game. Something Jimmy G is actually quite good at. Jimmy G is an avg QB who plays well when the games are on the line. There are many more QBs that are more gifted that struggle with this, including Dak.

Agreed, but QB play in clutch situations along with reliable FG kicking often decides many more games than not.

2 decent examples:
1. Elway could win games with his legs, but he didn’t win the SB until he had a bonafide RB to compliment his abilities.

2. Marino couldn’t win a SB and only made 1 visit in his career. This should be viewed as a Greek tragedy, but the Dolphins failed to get Marino a complimentary run game which cost them in the end. Marino was great, but the Dolphins failed him.

So 3 mvps, a superbowl win and back to back appearences, multi time all pro and division winner from a 2nd rd pick from southern ms and you say underachiever? If Favre is an underachiever, the only guy at qb who played to their talent is Brady.

You still haven't told me what happened when he got the ball back with almost 2 minutes left and needing a fg for the tie. I see how you gloss over that. That dropped pick had nothing to do with him just like those 2 special teams blunders by Green Bay that netted them 10 of their 13 pts in that game. If those 2 punts aren't blocked, one for a scoop and score, Jimmy Clutch had 0 pts on the board with all those offensive weapons.

When you have the best team in football over a 5 year period and only win one championship, you've underachieved.

I always get a chuckle out of this Jimmy G conversation. I don't even care about Jimmy G. I only chime in because it's such a great example of how irrational, illogical and subjective we can be as sports fans.
