Davis Mills getting no respect

Go back and actually watch all of his games and tell me you want that guy as your QB? He also was bad against Penis St. For 3 qtrs.

He's going to be another in a long line of Ohio State QB's. We're never going to agree so I'm moving on. Stroud hasn't impressed me at all this year.

You know who has impressed me with lesser talent around them. Duggan/Rising.

In two years 7426 yards 74 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Yes I’ll take that all day everyday.

Most games Stroud could sit in that OSU pocket and eat lunch. Then throw to the top receivers in the country who are wide open. It is like playing pitch and catch. Steelb is right. He struggled against Northwestern and Penn State. He didn't look all that great against Maryland either
Those receivers of his make amazing catches for him every game. I'd say Harrison may be the best of all of them and two were first round picks this past draft

Hope this is accurate and we can get a solid offer to trade down.
To clarify my earlier post it was in response to banned 1976 post at the end he stated what I thought was meant to be the clear-cut choice for the player not necessarily the team who was picking first.

Almost all mock drafts I've seen other than on this message board were either for Young or JC Stroud regardless of who was picking at 1.1. I have also stated that my hope is the Texans if they have 1.1 will trade down as I think more than two teams will be interested in drafting up for one of those two players.

A lot of people, including "media scouts" thought had Mills stayed in college another year he would have been a first-round pick. This guy shows no first round ability. At least not consistently. Flashes of it last year, nothing much this year.

I'm not sure where the Texans go from here. The offense is really bad. The defense is 18th in points allowed. Not terrible...until you see they are 32nd in rushing yards allowed.

I'm not hearing of any clear-cut frontrunner in this upcoming draft.
In the 2023 draft the clear-cut choice for the number one pick is a quarterback just not clear which of the two it will be.

His playing style with his small frame is unlikely to work in the NFL, based on history. You named guys as comparable styles, but their size matters.
Evidently size does not matter to all NFL teams. It does matter to me but it's not the primary requirement.

How come when Young or Stroud are discussed their stats and ability are because of those they play with yet when Jalen Carter is discussed as with his 2021 season he was a standout on a team that had several NFL selections? Didn't his teammates elevate him? Seems like the rules are not applied to all.

Man some of y’all are a trip. Every darn player will struggle from time to time. And guess what Caleb has some top notch receivers he’s throwing to as well. So we’re knocking certain players for having a bad game or two. What about his MVP year? All because you don’t like said player shouldn’t mean to crap on him. How about actually evaluating his game without the bias eye.

Have you watched his games? When did he have a mvp year?

They will have weapons next season. You act like they don’t have any draft picks in 23/24. And you still need to build starting the most important highest paid position in football. QUARTERBACK! Period.
yeah, how’s that strategy worked for the Jaggies thus far with their “once in a generation” qb prospect?

How about the Titties when they drafted VY… “all he does is win” the fan boys said.

At this point it appears that you just want to be disappointed and its clear you really don’t pay attention to the league at large. The only way this strategy of drafting a qb high in the draft works out for the team is if you’ve got an abundance of talent (young or old..preferably young) already on the roster. or young talent that comes in with him…the caveat to that is you have to hit on all that young talent coming in…harder than it sounds. The other thing that MUST be in place is a progressive HC/OC combo that knows exactly what they’re looking for talent wise AND a GM that can execute the vision. Dude….we may have 1 of those elements in place right now with NC…:littlelol:….& some here question whether even he’s doing a good job “executing”. So unless they draft a young qb #1 overall and plan to have him sit for all of next year, drafting a qb high in this upcoming draft is DESTINED to fail….some might say that it’s destined to fail anyway ….because……..its the Texans.

but im a realist and know that with the#1 pick we are destined to take a qb b/c its really the only position worth taking that high..

but if you haven’t begun to question the strategy of drafting a qb high in the draft and inserting him on a terrible team, then there’s no hope for you…you’re a masochist and like the pain.

I hope im dead ass wrong about all this and we become 1 of the very few exceptions to the rule…….but if we’re playing odds…

I'm very sorry to tell you this but you're not wrong. Texans will never be on the good side of being the exception of anything. It's not what they do. If they have to take a QB with their first pick, I sure hope they sit him for a year but they won't. He'll be expected to come in and save a failing franchise that has no hope of being saved in 2023

There's zero hope of a material change in performance with a new QB - outside of obtaining an elite QB through free agency - with the shape of the interior OL. When you're this weak up the middle, it completely destroys the offense's orientation and timing. Unless we draft a Center who can play, KG improves markedly and another guard steps up, it looks pretty bleak for whoever is incoming. Guessing the OL will probably improve in 2023, but if it doesn't the new QB is going to get rekt.

Fixing the IOL is a must, but that is not enough to fix the team; it won't even fix the offense with a shiny new QB. Also needed are a WR1 and a TE or two plus OL depth. And there are many more holes on defense

I actually support this at this time. Maybe get a slight initial boost in play/results, but it won't sustain. Let's see if Mills get back in after 2 or 3 games off and finishes the season strong, which will go towards his evaluation to determine whether he's in competition next year for the job.

Time for Mills to get the clipboard perspective. If he doesn't come back stronger to end the season, or if somehow Allen plays so well that Mills never gets back in, it won't bode well for his future in Houston.

Tell me more about Haskins stats?
Haskins had a maturity issue. Have you read or watched anything that states Stroud is immature. Look at his journey and his humbleness. He didn't even get recognition until his junior year, no offers. Dude flew to Ohio St after playing a game and still had tape on his ankles and such. If every qb out of the program lined up equally based on the non productive dudes, we wouldn't have Rodgers, Hurts,Tua,Brady,Kelly,Mahomes,Good Russell Wilson, or a litany of qbs. I know its hard, but you have to evaluate every prospect against themselves and their tape, not another player.

Yep and he looks very avg this year without all those other guys. Its amazing how great he looked next to Davis and Wyatt. Teams weren't sliding or turning protection that way. Hell, they're not doing it now and he's getting stood up at the los. Its always one sided with favor seems like.

I remember D.Brown rookie struggles, that's why I'm not worried about Green. Center is a problem, but they can get one in the 3rd or 4th rd of the draft. WR class is deep, Edge players are available in 1st rd. They need better coaching and transition from these Kirkskey/KPL/Eric Murray types on defense.

I said most of the systems like that didn't produce as good a QB. Meaning Mahomes is a small number who has been fine doing both. But, let's be honest, Mahomes is a great athlete and and likely could play other sports as well. Meaning he is gifted in general
Many NFL QBs had played in the Air Raid in college besides Mahomes:

Kyler Murray, Jared Goff, Sam Brarldford, Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum, Jimmy G, Robert Griffin III, Geno Smith, Nick Files, etc.

One of the premier prospects for 2024 (Caleb Williams) is playing in the Air Raid for Lincoln Riley at USC.
Some people on this board has already tabbed him for the Texans.

Several NFL teams are currently running the Air Raid and other teams had run it in the past like the Chargers with Dan Fouts.
Lots of NFL teams are currently incorporating some Air Raid concepts into their system, including the Pats for at least a decade now.

The coaches don't trust to open up the playbook b/c they don't trust the protection & they can clearly see that these guys who think they're race horses are actually donkeys & can't get open.

But it's cool. Mills will be the face of this faceplant of a regime & will be benched sometime next week or the week after that & your boy Allen will get some run. & he'll play ok against the Browns......& you and a few others will be :brando: with the "i told you so's" b/c you'll cherry pick stats and plays to try to show that Allen looks better than Mills........Then the Dallas & Chiefs games will happen....& then you'll snap back to reality........ and realize why Allen got his position taken by Taylor Hieneke in Washingtion.
.
.
Or you can just skip all that & read this thread b/c it pretty much details how this is all going to go. https://www.texanstalk.com/threads/what-mallett-brings-as-a-full-time-starter.109344/ lol. Some real gems in there once you get past Marshall and I-cak/Hervy's beef.
I have no idea why you bring these things up.

I barely know Allen is on the team. :brando:

Don't forget it was Nick Caserio who brought in both of these guys.

Hurrah for Caserio. :hankpalm: :brando:

You never heard anything of Haskins issues prior to being drafted either
The nfl world knew, thats why he went 15th vs higher especially withe season he had. Washington did him no favors because that was a owners pick, not a coaches pick. Then he didn't put in the work when he got there. Go and read about Stroud and Young, they're all about ball, thats it.

I submit that at this point of his draftable year not even the nfl world knew. They hadn't started digging yet

There’s absolutely no point in benching Mills at this point in time. Because Allen is not going to do any better. Also, as a GM it is Caserio’s job to help his QB. Has he?
