I get what you're saying and even if they took he chance and weren't able to draft Williams/Maye. McCarthy/Sanders would've been on the board for them to pick. Point is a top 10 pick would've been good enough to draft a QB next yr, particularly having an extra 1st next yr. But Cal shockingly couldn't stay patient. SMH
He’s already proven that’s a piece of crap. Go look at his play on the field. It's up to CJ to prove the S2 ain't all that
He hasn't proven squat until he does it in the NFLHe’s already proven that’s a piece of crap. Go look at his play on the field.
Better yet let’s see how the HOF quarterback breaks down his play
Steelb can be funny like that.
He would say he wants a generational talent at QB, but in the next sentence he would say he hopes Mills can buck the trend so that the Texans would have one less thing to worry about.
On the one hand, he will say "don't settle for a mediocre QB", it will set your team back many years.
On the other hand, he continues to say that having Mills turn out to be a stud would be great.
Of course, it would.
But he didn't even realized that he was promoting a proposition that he's always been against.
Mediocrity.
I trust Caserio, this was a Cal decision and I don't trust Cal's motives at all. But hey, it's his team and if this doesn't work I could see the McNair family selling the team, which would be worth the price of mediocrity for a few years. There is no reason I can think of that precludes the team from drafting one of those QBs next year.
But I doubt it will be necessary.
Not drafting a QB this year would have been the equivalent of "kicking the can down the road".
Texan fans have been 'waiting until next year' since the inception of the team.
Casserio decided to "get off the pot". Some trust him, some don't. I choose to trust him. Time will tell.

What I said was his rookie yr Mills was the 2nd best QB in his class. Last year he really didn't get a fair chance and I'm good with moving on from him but not for a QB in this class because while Stroud isn't a bad QB, he's not a championship level QB. Better to wait than be stuck in purgatory.Steelb can be funny like that.

Patience is usually the correct path. Sad thing is they could have built a dynasty and now all of the Derrick trade is gone and they're just going to eventually be another good team with the stadium full.
I have an opinion that happens to be different on the McNair's motives which are based on history and on Stroud and his ability to be a championship level QB. My opinion happens to be different than yours. There's no trolling or grievances involved. Just differing opinions.Spot on.
At this point it's safe to say he's trolling the entire board. Fine by me. If you're devoid of useful opinion due to an irrational grieveance then have at it. I'm no longer getting caught up in that. Moving on.
I expect that if Stroud is the 32nd ranked QB next year, he will find himself holding a clipboard on the sidelines. As Mills did.My point is next season I want Stroud to be held to the same standards Mills was held too, if not a higher standard because Stroud has more ability and better weapons to work with than Mills ever thought about having.
Ownership made this decision, just like they did with Carr. Nothing has changed down on Kirby in this regard. Cal wanted a QB and Stroud is the QB they settled on. Rumor before the draft was the Texans FO was split on this QB class. Who do you think made the final decision? I don't think they will be bad with Stroud, but I think he won't bring a championship to Kirby. How is this a Cal decision amigo?
We need a good QB to compete in this league, you’ve even gone as far to say we need a top 5 QB to win it all.
I see Caserio and DeMeco identifying what they need to compete right now and making it happen. Winning puts butts in seats. Anyway CJ is unproven, not a superstar in college, no connection to Houston, how would that put butts in seats for Cal?
This was a football decision.
He shouldn't be the 32nd ranked QB after they improved the ol and the weapons around him. I'm just hoping that they didn't gift the Cards a top 10 pick.I expect that if Stroud is the 32nd ranked QB next year, he will find himself holding a clipboard on the sidelines. As Mills did.

I think there will be more excitement for the Texans, initially. New coach, new QB, new players. But for that to sustain, wins have to be a big part of that equation.Still won’t put butts in seats until we start winning.
And winning is what we all want.
What’s the goal next year? Win the division? Do you think CJ gives us the best chance to win?
Can you think of any good reason to let him sit for a year?
If the Texans decide to start Case, what do you imagine would be the reason?

Bingo. It's not a discussion. It's irrational grievances, mixed with a strong dislike of a draft pick and nothing will change that opinion. I'm going to drop out of this conversation. However, before I leave, here is a PSA to what is at the bottom of the rabbit hole that is being dug. I expect a similar post about Shroud in 3 or 4 years.Spot on.

I did because I thought it would give the Texans their best chance to win a SB. In fact I wanted them to draft another QB with the same style, so the transition would be easier when Derrick got hurt. They weren't ever going to win a championship with Derrick running a conventional offense.
Of course it wouldn't have hurt my feelings to see Derrick get hurt either.
My work is done. After all these years, you finally admit it. Now, wasn't that cathartic? I knew that all along and also include the WR target narrative as a setup expecting him to fail without his blankey.
Now that Derrick is one of the most hateful, despicable public figures in Houston history, you don't have to hide behind flimsy narratives. You can call him dumb and wish for him to get hurt without any complaints, pushbacks, posters defending him or bashing you. Doesn't it feel great?
I don’t think they wanted to suck with Lovie, but he couldn’t win any games. If they wanted a qb in 2024 they would have kept Culley, but he actually won more games than Lovie so that wouldn’t have worked. lolSo it was a Cal thing because of something 20 years ago? QB was always going to be the pick at 2, an either Young or Stroud at that. According to DeMeco (who could be lying, of course), they were going to pick CJ without Cal's knowledge.
You aren't getting one of the hottest coaching candidates by forcing him to roll with Mills, the worst starting QB in the NFL. Again, if you wanted to suck for another year, you keep Lovie.

Ryans and Caserio kept the decision under strict lock and key. Not even owner Cal McNair knew that Stroud, the Ohio State quarterback, would be the No. 2 pick.

DeMeco didn’t take the job to tank or start the season with Mills, that’s for sure. that's my opinion.
Yes he Fhe has. Again wtf this wasn’t the got darn criteria last season? Y’all kill me with this silly stuff. He hasn't proven squat until he does it in the NFL
Colts fan here I think you got the safest pick between us and the titans. Plus if stroud can continue to be accurate like he was in college you will definitely have the best qb. Stroud's upside is Joe burrow in my opinion.
I'm not going to convince you otherwise, but Cal did exactly what his dad did with Carr. This could be just a smoke screen. Feel free to cite your sources on Stroud being an ownership decision
Good Lord, please be better than Troy Aikman, Stroud!! SB trophies and surrounding talent made Aikman a HoFer, not his talent level.Agreed, but those are just my opinion which could be totally wrong.
But I did even say I can see an avenue in my evaluation of them where they could be top tier players at their respective positions.
I personally would’ve targeted Richardson just because of all the tools and despite his numbers I saw good things on film that I believe in the right situation can be developed
But Stroud I think has the best overall arm talent the draft all things considered…placement, velocity, touch and accuracy. Not the creator Young is, but he’s not a statue. Not the physical freak or stature of Richardson but not a potato either. He was a safe top pick I think.
Basically, I think if they get the rest of the roster right stroud can be like a Troy Aikman which I’m ok with as a top draft pick.
I'm not going to convince you otherwise, but Cal did exactly what his dad did with Carr.
Isn't waiting condemning you to purgatory for at least a year longer?Better to wait than be stuck in purgatory.
What has he done in the NFL? College stars fail in the NFL every year. I don't think Stroud will, but I don't KNOW that.Yes he Fhe has. Again wtf this wasn’t the got darn criteria last season? Y’all kill me with this silly stuff.
It's not doing anything to me.Isn't waiting condemning you to purgatory for at least a year longer?
The guys on 97.5 agreed with me that the QB pick was a financial move. I doubt that meets your criteria, because Cal, Caserio, Ryans didn't say it.I'm open minded.
If you could present anything other than your assumptions, based on literally anything other than your dislike for a player because of who he chose as his agent, I'd be willing to listen.
He’s already proven that’s a piece of crap. Go look at his play on the field.

The guys that are on at 2pm.Interesting, this is the first I've heard anyone in media have that opinion.
Which guys said that? I'd be interested in hearing what they said.
So like I said only Cal/Caserio/Ryans saying this will satisfy you. That's never going to happen. And they know this how? Again, pulling **** out of their asses...trying to make it fact based on no hard information. Caserio and Ryans didn't talk to Lance or John. They don't know ****.
That is no what I’m saying. People are shitting on the dude because of his freaking agent . Joker posting this S2 crap like it’s a indictment on how he played or will play. Talking about he needs to learn when to shut up. Oh he’s a piece of crap because he’s of Vick, Watson and Burrow’s game. Wait they never mention him being a fan of Burrow.Come on, man. I like Stroud but let's not act there's never been QBs who look great in college and never amount to squat in the NFL. Like you're always telling everyone, let's let the man play first.
We have no idea who wanted Stroud. We do know that Caserio and Ryans kept their draft selections close to the vest so that there wouldn't be leaks. That tell me that every rumor leading up to the draft was manufactured to get clicks. Nothing more. "Rumor has it" means someone made something up this year, regarding the Texans draft.Ownership made this decision, just like they did with Carr. Nothing has changed down on Kirby in this regard. Cal wanted a QB and Stroud is the QB they settled on. Rumor before the draft was the Texans FO was split on this QB class. Who do you think made the final decision? How on earth is drafting Stroud a financial move? For the 5th year option? To not have to pay a veteran? The guys on 97.5 agreed with me that the QB pick was a financial move. I doubt that meets your criteria, because Cal, Caserio, Ryans didn't say it.
How on earth is drafting Stroud a financial move? For the 5th year option? To not have to pay a veteran?
To not move up to take Young?
I'll take CJS and WAJ over just BY.
Regardless of our opinions, we'll all find out how the draft played out over the next 3 years.

So you Come on Man. I know every freaking player has flaws. I’m not going to sit on here and crap on them all because they wasn’t the player I wanted. Shoot at least let them get on the field first before crapping on them.
So like I said only Cal/Caserio/Ryans saying this will satisfy you. That's never going to happen.
I'm certainly not going to change your mind, but drafting Stroud will put butts in the seats, instead of drafting say 1-2 Anderson and trading up to 1-9 from 1-12 and drafting say, Carter and having the best 2 defensive guys in this draft on your team. Then drafting a QB in 2024 because you haven't burned through the Derrick draft picks like a drunken sailor. (I just used Carter as an example, so guys like JB dont say Carter is a turd and I would never draft him.)
Fact is everytime I here Stroud speak, I just shake my head. Did you know Day calls all of the audibles for the Ohio St. offense? I figure you do since you live in Ohio. Stroud has a lot to learn and he doesn't appear to be the brightest bulb according to his test scores. But hey, maybe I'm wrong and he's a football savant like he claims to be. My experience in life is if a guy has to tell you how smart he is, he ain't that smart.
People are shitting on the dude because of his freaking agent .
You say this is your opinion but the way you’re acting as if it’s a fact. Did Cal tell you it was his decision because what he said was, “ he let the football guys make football decisions. ( paraphrasing)Ownership made this decision, just like they did with Carr. Nothing has changed down on Kirby in this regard. Cal wanted a QB and Stroud is the QB they settled on. Rumor before the draft was the Texans FO was split on this QB class. Who do you think made the final decision? Who would those people be exactly? So what is the appropriate response according to you?
Especially when it's clear as day that the young man makes bad choices in the people he hangs with?
The agents job is to do what his client wants. After the hiring of Caserio and the private meeting he had with Cal. Watson demanded a trade. David honored his client wishes. So how is he the problem?Only partially true.
Yes the agent is an issue, I can't stand Mulugheta myself. Good thing is I don't have to deal with him.
Most folks on this board are excited about Stroud.
Some are hesitant to believe in him.
Some don't think he is the QB to carry us into a Championship title.
And a handful just don't want you to be happy with your team because their opinion is laughable.
Tune it out (not easy I know) and just enjoy the team for what it currently is what it can be soon.
