2024 Draft Talk

If you think about it, at this moment, you could make the argument that any pick could be a luxury pick for Texans - especially if they are all healthy.
This makes taking a decent back around the 20-25 mark make sense.
Not when better than decent running backs are available day two and quite possibly round four.

With so many on the roster on a 1 year deal, Caserio has some work to do in the off season yet again.
Our first pick in the draft could be any position except QB at this point.
Devin Singletary is one of those.
It will be interesting to see if we make him an offer, draft his replacement or bring in another FA.
We still have Dameon Pierce up our sleeve, but he is the thunder whereas DS is the lightning and has been a better fit for Slowik's offense.
Pierce may be thunder but all I do is hear about him and I never see him make it rain...

If Benson is there in the 20's he's worthy of the pick.

Some food for thought:

Trey Benson 6-1 @ 223 lbs (Florida State) Projected 40- 4.37 / Highest Speed Hit In Game: 22.0 mph

Bijan Robinson 5-11 @ 215 lbs (Texas) Combine 40- 4.46 / Highest Speed Hit In Game: 22.3 mph

De'Von Archane 5-8.5 @ 188 lbs (A&M) Combine 40- 4.32 / Highest Speed Hit In Game: 21.9 mph

I'd put a high priority on Benson if he's there for the taking in RD2. It could be an amazing draft if the first (2) players selected by the Texans were WR- Xavier Leggett and/or RB- Trey Benson. Big question, who would you select if both Leggett and Benson were available when the Texans pick in RD1?

It would come down to the interviews

Probably Benson.

If I drafted Benson and Legette fell to the late 1st or early 2nd I would trade up for him even if it meant trading future picks. These guys are that good. IMHO.

I'm curious as to where you got these numbers and why is it the slower the guy the higher the speed?

I believe it could be the thing some folks allude to….game speed with full gear. Some folks can carry that gear better than others.

Really wish every measurable was done in full gear at the Combine. Real numbers for what would be coming next. The measurables in the Underwear Olympics only count if they’re going to be playing Flag Football next.

I've never thought that thought before .... you may very well be right. Another thing that possibly shouldn't have been taken away was the Wonderlic. Don't know if you've ever taken it. Most folks haven't. It's kin to an IQ test .... but the emphasis is as much or more on speed than intellect .... very few things more important than a Quick Mind on the field. I always would've said speed or strength .... but it certainly could, (and would) be argued .... as a matter of fact, it has .... a lot !

There are no 1st round RBs in this draft. 2nd day? Could be as many as 7-8 depending on needs.
There may not be a RB picked in the 1st rd, but Benson is worthy of a 1st rd pick IMHO. He would be a perfect fit in a WCO and he can catch the ball too. Which RB's do you like in the 2nd- 3rd rd range.

If you're right then give me Legette in the 1st and Benson in the 2nd.

Benson
The Michigan backs
Brooks
Braelon Allen
TreVeyon Henderson
Bucky Irving (would be a good fit with Pierce)
If Jonathan Brooks out of UT declares, he’ll be a 2nd rounder. It’s unfortunate he tore his ACL, so I’m not 100% that he’ll declare.

Edit: didn’t realize someone already commented on Brooks. I was catching up in the thread.

Allen is playing in a new air raid offense at Wisconsin. His receiving out of the backfield has picked up. The better tape he puts up picking up pass rushers, the higher he can go in the draft.
He needs to improve his blocking but like you say, if he was perfect, he would go higher in the draft.

I bet a lot more teams are going to be interested in QBs in this draft than originally thought.
Which means a good player will probably fall to the Texans.

I can't decide if it would be best to build a badazz defense in the draft or give Stroud more weapons to work with. You're really not drafting to the strength of the draft, but a case could be made for a draft like this,

Latu- Edge
Cooper LB
Sweat DT
Stover
McClellan

Yep. I counter with
1. Rome Odunze WR
2. In a trade up: Kamren Kenchens S/CB
3. Abrams-Draine CB
4 from Browns RB Dillon Johnson.

879 yard @ 6 11TDs

Odunze will most likely be gone.

Dont know much about Kechens.

Adams/Draine- Good pick although I'm terrible at evaluating CB's.

Like Johnson a lot. How are his hands, pass pro?

agree that Odunze will be gone; however, I keep hoping that Cleveland will BROWN things up again to our advantage. Johnson (portal transfer from Mississippi State) is very good at receiving and pass blocking.

Odunze is part of the cluster to me. He will be there at the bottom of the 1st rd. Wrs are like rbs now in terms of colleges throw the ball so much, you can get a tank dell, dk Metcalf, aj brown and guys like that in 2nd and 3rd rd.

Hope you're right, if Odunze falls like this he will be a steal. So will Legette.

Those guys are going to pushed late 1st/2nd rd because of the qbs and tackles. I like a bunch of wrs, but as we've witnessed, wrs can be had in the 3rd and 4th rds that can change games. Nabors is the best wr in cfb. Its not really an argument honestly. To break that record at a school that has produced what they have is a big accomplishment. Now that doesn't mean it will transition to the next level, but we've seen guys from the wco not spend high picks on wrs. Not saying they shouldn't, just saying they haven't because their scheme allows certain things to make wrs successful.

Agreed

I wonder if Nabers can play outside?

After today, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they spent rds1-3 on defense and added 3 or 4 guys in FA. One things for sure, they really need to re-sign Cashman.

Wow, please identify what AJ brown or DK Metcalf is available in round 3. You might want to give Caserio a call and let him know.

I really like Nabers but I think Rome Odunze, Tony Franklin and Marvin Harrison are right there with him. Personally I like Odunze as well as Harrison.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying but there are Playmakers like Nico Collins and Tank Dell in rounds 2 , 3 and maybe four [looking at you Jermaine Burton!] but MHV and the three I mention above are a different breed. I was beginning to see Noah Brown as that type guy but that went sideways like an Arizona rattler.
TBH, I can see Ryan's deciding to go with the wide receivers he has and same with the IOL and hit his side of the ball almost exclusively. I would not have a tantrum, if he did but that is not what I would do.

I could see this happening, but they're going to have to find a RB that fits their scheme either in the draft or FA, or both. I would be very happy with drafting Burton and signing Dillon in FA as well as bringing back Singletary in FA. Thunder and lightening. Dillon has played in the Packers WCO scheme and should be a fairly cheap FA signing.

The Tre Harris, AD Mitchell, Brian Thomas Jr, and the kid from NC are all probably going to be sitting there in the 3rd rd. All big and can run. Metcalf was the last pick in the 2nd rd, Brown was drafted 51st which is 2nd half of 2nd rd. There are quality play makers at wr outside of the 2nd rd all day.

Personally, Caserio and Ryans need only to get Noah Brown and Dalton Schultz signed to new contracts. As for this season, the offense should find ways to get both Metchie and Hutchinson more involved.

Collins, Dell, Brown, Wood, Metchie, Hutchinson, and Schultz have the potential to be a really good group. I would sign TE- Hunter Henry (UFA) to complete this receiving group.

I'd let Brevin Jordan go and let "Q" complete the TE position.

WR's Wayne and Sims would get their shot to continue and impress the team.

It's DB's and RB- Trey Benson (Florida State) for me.

It's going to cost approximately 20-25 million to sign Schultz and Henry.

Sign one of them an do you think they should re-sign Cashman, Rankins, Nelson? That's going to cost about 30 million. That will leave enough to sign one impact FA. If you choose not to re-sign Nelson and Schultz but sign Henry, that will give you enough to sign another impact FA.

I like Brown and Schultz but after thinking about this, I would let them walk and add Hunter and Wilkins in FA. Bring back Cashman and draft the best CB possible alond with a Safety in rds 1-3. I would add the best RB possible in Rd 2 and add the best WR and TE I could get in rd 4.

That's if every thing worked out fine. But if a guy like Thomas or Legette fell to the 3rd I would move up and get them. Those guys are difference makers like Dell is.

Noah Brown has a history of not being able to stay healthy. I would only bring him back on a vet minimum deal.

Judging from what little I saw of juice scruggs, I think our left guard position may be in much better shape in the future.

It was a half. If he continues to play well than I would lower the need level on the IOL; but let's revaluate at the end of the season. And I'm not holding my breath on Green being anything other than a bust at this point.

Yep but it was a half I didn't have a very good defense from the number one team in our division. The bar is set low for a starter that left guard. There may be a silver lining to Howard going off the field and Scruggs being ready to play. Last I heard, Titus was pending a knee examination. I agree with you on Kenyon green.

Agreed about Scruggs.

Much to early to say about Green. He's played 3 1/2 games healthy in his career.

2 bad games in a row for Tunsil, his knee must be giving him issues.

I've got a feeling in the late 2nd, early 3rd there's going to be some real value there at the WR position.
