Tunsil is under contract in 2020, then we can franchise. We are trying to do him a solid and lock him down. As others say, top paid guys may wait for the CBA

or our GM may be trying to bring in another pro bowl offensive lineman that would definitely help #4 and our running game. If we could trade a player we don't need/want for him that would be fantastic. I posted somewhere that talking head on radio said he could be had for a third round..just for a discussion point.

Yup. Solid report, and have been reading similar reports elsewhere as well: "The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports it's unlikely that the Texans re-sign free agent DT D.J. Reader. Reader could command upwards of $9-13 million annually."
I remember TB saying to me something along these lines,
SBT how would you know if they aren't going to bring Reader back?

As my avatar suggests DJ Reader is my favourite Texan, in saying that, knowing we need to pay Tunsil and Watson, letting Reader walks 'makes sense'.

it’s a future 2nd. More like a third in today’s dollars
that’s the bad part of letting your HC play GM when his back is against the wall. He will overpay without any regard to your future if it buys him cushion. Even Tunsil, great player, I was ecstatic when the deal was announced, but TWO firsts AND a second when this was a deep tackle class? No thanks. Do you think if we didn’t have Tunsil we would be a playoff team? I guarantee if we didn’t make that Tunsil trade we fall short of where we were this season and OB is gone. Had we stayed pat, we could’ve gotten Andrew Thomas, Jedrick Willis, Wirfs, etc. you could’ve gotten your LT and still had a plethora of picks to upgrade the secondary and add another couple offensive weapons, AND have a lot more cap space to play with in free agency.
I saw we checked in on Trent Williams, I don’t know what his trade value is, but if we could trade Tunsil for him and get a first back in the deal, even if it’s next year, I’d do it
The sad part is we paid mercilus as a premier pass rusher when he really isn’t. Same with nick Martin. Another bad reason to let HC play GM. He overpays his guys he likes, even if they’re not the best

You just laid out the key statement people should sit up and take notice.
It really only cost a 2021 1st for Tunsil. He's better than any LT in this class. So it wasn't an overpay.

Looks like Mercilus is going to be a Texans for life.
And until they find that style of QB they won't win anything with BOB as HC.
Unless Kelly can figure out how to thread the needle between what BOB wants to do and what DW4's strengths are.

Conley a trade with Raiders costing a third and Lonnie Johnson 2.54 are only significant ones. If Weaver thinks LJ can play outside or lock down slot (where I want him) team could pass on a prime corner in free agency and look solely at drafting one.
I wish they would sign the top FA corner and draft 2 more CB's including a good slot CB. I've got very little faith in LJ after watching him get worked by Kelce.

those are good Mocks and I would be okay with either however if we can get Byron Jones I'm not going cornerback until probably around 4. I am not going to let Kelsey dictate whether Lonnie Johnson can play. I would let tashaun gipson handle him that's what we signed him for.
I want as many CB/S that can cover as possible. I sign a CB in FA and draft a CB plus a S so the DB room will be rebuilt with faster/more athletic players that can cover the Chiefs WR's. Last yrs DB room was slow. Jones is said to be getting 19 mil per yr offers from the Eagles/NYG's. Would you meet that price? I love what Jones brings but he's priced out of the market I would be comfortable being in.

If that $$$$ is spent on CB I'm fine with this. Fix the secondary and draft a NT to go with Dunn. Or sign a FA like Suh on a 1 yr deal.
Maybe not ! When asked by the press, why he drafted Aikens so early - when he was rated so low, (or not a all), O'Brien said I don't know, I just sensed something special about him ! He's just a prospect-rating machine .... and I, for one, don't think he gets proper credit for it ! Who's with me ????

I think we could see a possible trade one of our tight ends. Either before the draft or more likely after the season begins and players start to fall. A good cover corner like Byron Jones make our front 7 more effective. As for now I would still pay 19 for him I want to see how the recent extensions impact the cap.

Lol, Akins certainly has the athleticism that could make him a dominant pass catching TE, but he hasn't been able to put it together & he's especially terrible as a blocker easily the worst of the 2 we've seen & we don't know how Warring's gonna look.
Having said that was then, this is now & I can't see us packing 4 TE's.

Our bookends are set. Tunsil will sign when the time comes. Williams will not switch to another OL position, including RT...........and he will be looking for a "pay day." Put Williams to Texans to sleep..............it began with an article by the Athletic............a rumor entirely concocted out of thin air, a pattern beginning to develop from this source...............

I'd like to see the Texans get Hyde signed. He did a pretty solid job running behind his OL and with OB calling the plays.
Kelly will call the plays this year, Howard will be back at RT, Tunsil, Scharping and Howard will be entering their 2nd seasons with the Texans, and hopefully the Texans find a RG in the draft......preferrably RG, Bredeson out of Michigan. He's a plug and play today RG who was educated in a pro-style offense ran by Harbaugh. Maybe a pairing of Scharping and Bredeson at the G positions would help cover for the weakest link, Martin.
Just give me a better OL and better game planner.......and I think Hyde and Johnson could be pretty special in the running game.

We'll be looking for a new one. Meanwhile, Fulton would be better utilized at C. I don't really feel great about Martin at that position to begin with, but he was given a recent extension. Fortunately, the way Martin's 3-year contract was structured, if he does not perform well this year, he will be able to be released in 2021 with little concern.

Personally I don’t think we need to waste a contract on Hyde. Duke plus draft pick(s) and maybe a cheap veteran signing for insurance is all we need.
