2020 Free Agency

Personally I wouldn’t give two shits if he went to the podium and shot Cheerios out of his ass. I really don’t care about what he does or doesn’t say so that’s not my issue with him. In fact, I actually prefer him to keep close vested rather than be an open book as you’ve suggested.

I have a problem with him being a bad coach. I have a bigger problem with him having full control of how this team is run from every personnel decision down to who is boss is.

Anthony weaver from what I read and have heard has the potential to be a great DC, but with Romeo getting a “promotion” who’s to say that anything would actually change instead of who is the fall guy/yes man. In my opinion, we could bring in the best and brightest football minds and at the end of the day OB will have the final word
have you used the CHeerios before? Seems to have turned up somewhere. I agree on OBrien keeping things to himself. Hopefully Weaver brings more Ryan to the field.

Here are the details of Brandon Dunn's new contract extension per Aaron Wilson..............appears very Texans friendly........should not in itself a factor that precludes trying to sign Reader:

Texans defensive tackle Brandon Dunn's three-year, $12 million contract includes $4 million guaranteed with a $1.5 million signing bonus.

Dunn is due a fully guaranteed $2.5 million base salary in 2020 with a salary-cap figure of $3.5 million.

In 2021, he's due a nonguaranteed $3.25 million base salary with a $4.25 million salary-cap figure.

In 2022, Dunn has a $3.25 million nonguaranteed base salary and a $3.75 million salary-cap figure.

Dunn can make an additional $500,000 per year if he's active for every game and earns a $31,250 per game roster bonus.

I agree with you they should've al been fired for 51-7. But it's also time to put blame on the players too. You or I could've been coaching and 51-7 should've never happened if the players had pride. Instead they gave up, which is why I would've fired BOB after 51-7. Never give up and bring in new players that would never allow 51-7 because of their pride.

I do agree, the whole coaching staff should’ve been swept out. A good GM should’ve been hired who could bring in his front office guys and his guys to coach the team. John Dorsey would’ve been nice

No but let me tell you about the fun you can have with some goat cheese, old yarn, and an RC car.

I hope weaver simply has the “permission” to run the defense the way he sees fit. Not holding my breath

He's full of crap as usual.

Sounds like he's finally realizing there's a cap and he can't just sign everyone

What does BOB have to do with firing/hiring a new cap guy?

Unless you think BOB's lying he had nothing to do with the Olsen firing or this guys hiring. As far as the cap goes, that's a $$$$ thing and you can bet that Cal watches over that very carefully and signs off on any big $$$$ signing.

The Texans changing of the we dont negotiate with yrs left on a contract or negotiate during the season policy is probably what lead to Olsen's firing. In short the Texans org (Cal) decided to negotiate contracts differently than his dad did and I think that's a good thing in the modern NFL.

One of Texans' negotiating priorities is keeping their special-teams unit together, according to league sources, and team is trying to retain several core players, including kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn, long snapper Jon Weeks,Taiwan Jones, Barkevious Mingo, Dylan Cole, among others

[Caplan] Eagles are expected to be all-in on CB Byron Jones at the start of free agency: “They’re gonna be the first team up when they’re allowed to talk to the agents. I would say that deal when it comes in could hit 17 million a year.”

Well, these things normally fall under the purview of the GM. While O'Brien may be 100% truthful on this, the question itself makes sense.

I guess the question now is - Who the he** IS making these decisions if not the GM?

Cal made the decision on Olsen.

I think think Olsen was Bob McNair's cap guy and Cal let him go at the advise of Easterby. Easterby was hired to do a thorough evaluation of the Texans org. Apparently his advice was to move on from Olsen. The Texans org apparently are going to change they way and when the re-negotiate/negotiate contracts.

That does suck. I was hoping the Texans could get in on one of Bouye or Jones. Seems unlikely they'll outbid Philly for Jones and Bouye is looking like Harris' replacement in Denver. Not certain how much I'd be willing to drop on Harris, a slot corner on the wrong side of 30.

A bad HC doesn't win 10-11 games

A bad HC doesn't hire a guy you like for DC.

I'm just glad BOB made Kelly the playcaller. BOB has/had fat too much on his plate. In addition to having a very sick kid that takes up his time too.

Are you surprised?

I obviously haven't been paying close enough attention .... both surprised and disappointed. I my mind, I was at ease with the offensive line for the first time, in at least a decade. More Rolaids and anger management !

It certainly would have been nice if they decided Trent Williams was a bigger priority, but not very realistic

The clueless and misguided under appreciation of the front five, may be a prerequisite for employment by this team ! That's a losing philosophy !
