Playoffs

A lot rides on Miami/Buffalo. If Miami wins Texans would be the 6th seed and play @KC. Buffalo wins the Texans are a 7 seed and we're likely playing @Buffalo. This is assuming the Jags win and of course the Texans win. If Texans win and Jags lose, Texans secure division and the 4 seed and host Cleveland.
I have not found a scenario where the Texans can get in if they lose.

I don't live in the world of lowered expectations.

I think Stroud is that good.
I haven't felt this good about this team since the year we beat Cincy in the playoffs. JJ was going off and even with Schaub and Yates our O was great. And the D was top tier. Oh for another Arian Foster and AJ...
Now we can start the rebuild in earnest with CJ being the foundation and DR at the helm - notwithstanding we do have some other key pieces in place.
Will be interesting to see how Carstereo handles the off-season again with all the pending FAs.
Yeah, CJ is already showing huge potential - let's hope our OC knows how to keep it developing and the FO continues to bring in good pieces from the draft, and FA.

If we do get in, a lot of people will be pi$$ed if we are one and done - personally, I was not expecting playoffs at all this season and even having a winning season already was at the top end of my hope list.
Having a shot at the playoffs is gravy for mine even though I will hate to lose to my most hated team in the league.
Which would be crazy and asinine. The objective is to get better each year and to build upon your success from the previous season. You’re also getting much needed playoff experience.
One last point: we weren’t expected to make the playoffs for several reasonings.

DamRight we will.

Some will legitimately be upset & some will misplace their anger.

Personally if at anytime they look like their oldselves, whether one & done or in the divisional round, & look like they don't belong. I'm going to be upset thinking "same old Texans. But if they are competitive to the end, even if it's a garbage time comeback, I'll be optimistically looking forward to 2024.

My favorite scenario is Texans & Steelers win so Jags and Colts both miss the playoffs no matter who else does what

That is the caveat.
It also depends on who they play - if it's a top team and they play well but are simply outclassed, then you can make excuses for them too - like a great pass rush that overpowers our ragtag Oline for example.

If someone is saying “Same old Texans” after one and done in the playoffs then they haven’t gotten a clue of what this team is about. It’s a lazy opinion. If someone refers this team to the “same old Texans” it’s because they want to roll around in their own misery and punch themselves in the nuts.

This isn’t your Kubiak’s one and done team. This isn’t OB’s one and done team.

Everything is different. Everything is trending better than it has for a long long long time. From the ownership, to the GM, to the HC, to the QB, to the rest of the team. This is a young team on the up.

I simply lose all respect to talking heads (610) when their comments are just over the top.

2020: 4-12 / O’Brien - Crennel / O’Brien Draft: No RD1 / 5 Picks RD2-RD5 / Greenard, Heck

2021: 4-13 / Culley / Caserio Draft: No RD1 or RD2 / 5 Picks RD3-RD6 / Collins, Jordan, Mills, Wallow

2022: 3-13-1 / Smith / Caserio Draft: 9 Picks RD1-RD6 / Stingley, Pitre, Metchie, Harris, Pierce, Quitoriano, Green / **Positive Cap Space**

2023: 8-7 / Ryans / Caserio Draft: 9 Picks RD1-RD7 / Stroud, Anderson, Scruggs, Dell, Horton, To’oTo’o, Patterson, Hutchinson / **Positive Cap Space**

Anyone who couldn’t take into account that the Texans are in a 4 year window where the players have seen 5 HC’s, 4 new systems, no cap space for 2 seasons, lack of draft picks for 2 seasons, lack of overall talent, and a truck load of injuries…..have to be kidding themselves if they’re going to rail against this team, now, for games they should’ve won which may cost the Texans a playoff bid. LOL!!!

Caserio arrived in 2021 to a “Titanic” situation. With draft picks (finally), cap space (finally), and solid HC (finally)…..this team is performing far above expectations this season. Caserio, Ryans, and Stroud could all be in the running for awards at season’s end, something I doubt many would’ve thought possible before the season started. Caserio is finishing year 3 of his 5 year window and he has this team storming towards a solid 4th and 5th seasons.

This is exciting for Texans fans whether this team makes the playoffs or not.
This is exactly what I expected. Playoffs in yr 3. (10 wins) All they have to do is beat the Colts, which I think they will do and they will have met my expectations. It's like Texans fans have been conditioned to have lowered expectations. If they had beaten Carolina we wouldn't be having this discussion.

This is the draft where the strength of the draft matches up well with the Texans needs for play makers.

Considering we're on the outside looking in heading into next week, I assume there isn't a scenario if we lose. I think @Miami is the matchup I don't want in the WC. Glad to know that isn't an option. I think @KC might be better than home vs. Cleveland. Kansas City isn't the same team they were in the past.

We're in year #1 with Ryans at HC and Stroud at QB. We were a 3 win team last year. I don't think playoffs were a reasonable expectation heading into this year for anyone. Just beat Indy and we are in. I think everyone should be ecstatic with this.

Although if healthy and getting slightly above avg QB play I thought they would win 10 games, I'm very happy with where this team is and where I think they're headed.

I hope they keep:-
Schultz
Singletary
Brown
Woods
Perryman
Nelson
Barnett
Rankins
Mason
Hughes
Cashman
Collins
Ward
Greenard
Tart.
The rookies of course too.
I think these guys are the foundation pieces.
If not, it will be back to a BIG drawing board.

If they had to let go of 5 of their FA's who would you let go?

Damn...now you asking...
Brown, Mason, Ward, Tart, Hughes.
That will leave some big holes to fill with other guys who you have to bring up to speed.
Need to keep as many as possible otherwise there is a whole lot of unnecessary work load you put on the coaches.
If it ain't broken ...
Now let me put one on you - who would you bring in to replace these guys?

First round of playoffs.

#1 seed gets bye

#5 seed - #4 seed
#6 seed - #3 seed
#7 seed - #2 seed

I'm letting Perryman/Hughes/Brown/Woods/Tart go.

If letting Greenard go means being able to sign one of Wilkins or Hunter then I'm letting Greenard go too.

I know Ward has been hurt a lot, but he's a leader on the defense in the film room/practice etc... But I wouldn't be against letting him go.

Man, Perryman leaving hurts.
Does Greenard have one more year on his rookie deal?

It wouldn't necessarily mean that. It could, but not necessarily.

They're not a good team, imo, regardless how many games they win. Better than a bunch of other teams, maybe. But there's a lack of any consistency in anything good teams do. They're off to a good start, that's promising. Now we need to see consistency.
For the Texans to be in the hunt for a playoff spot, with all of the injuries they've endured, I'd say that's the hallmark of a good team with good coaching. They've done more with less than a lot of teams in the NFL. Regardless of outcome, this season has been a huge success.

Nope. A SB is the goal. Every. Single. Season. I will be disappointed with anything less.

Let’s effin’ go Texans!
There are degrees of disappointment along with degrees of satisfaction. If the Texans don't win their last game, be it this Saturday or Super Bowl Sunday, I will be disappointed. But that will be trumped by all of the satisfaction I've gotten over the course of the season.

In other words you've set yourself up where your lowered expectations will keep you from being disappointed.

I felt like the Texans would win 8 or 9 games this season. And considering how the young players have developed and the team soldered through an injury plagued season, I could not be more satisfied. You want to make ridiculous expectations, that's fine. You do you.

Looking at the schedule my expectations weren't ridiculous and things have proven out that I wasn't off base. Lowered expectations and let's keep everything within the lines. Yee of little faith.

Don't go there. I've been here the entire time. I knew what you were doing then.

Wait - to get to the expected 10 wins they had to get QB play that no one is expected?

To be fair, he didn't like the QBs in this draft. Others did. If the QB they wanted to draft with the #2 overall pick was as good as a QB should be to be taken with the #2 overall pick, then 10 wins should have been the expectation considering everything else Nick & Hana did to improve the team.

He was wrong about Cj S2roud & has said as much a few times.

Quoted for truth.

Yes - I know. I was giving him a hard time.

Tough crowd.

Yes, and to counter that they've gotten far better QB play than anybody could've expected.
The only person I remember having a ton of faith in Stroud was that OSU fan. I certainly didn't want him because of the OSU stigma. As soon as the Texans drafted him, I jumped on the Stroud bandwagon and rooted for me. He's been far better than I ever imagined.

Wow, with all of the new additions added to what they already had when Ryans got here and Ryans being a defensive guru I expected much more than you did. Plus they weren't going up against the high powered offenses like they were last year.

They were playing a last place schedule last season. Which high powered offenses were they playing last year? They added some big names that had great seasons a few years ago. I didn't think DR had the horses to make his defense work this year. I thought he'd need a year to get his type of players on the roster.
