Playoffs

That scenario is pretty far fetched imo. ^^^
We win out, Colts lose out (Raiders and us), and Jaggies go 1-1 (Panthers and Tacks), we win the AFCS. First round home playoff against the Browns. I think the Browns are pretty locked in to the 5th seed. They got the Jets and Bengals next 2. Even if they split they stay at 5.
Don't want the Browns again. Flacco may be on another magic carpet ride. And that defense is damn good.

I think it's far-fetched for the Chiefs to lose out, but stranger things have happened.

I don't expect the Jags to lose out, but with Lawrence's injury... it could happen. And I don't want to face the Browns again, either, but if we're in the playoffs, we're going to be facing someone tough no matter what happens: Browns, Chiefs, Dolphins, with the Bills having an outside shot.

It would be sweet to go back to Jacksonville and beat them again there in the playoffs.

There are still 7/16 AFC teams at 8-7 or 7-8. Same in the NFC. Lots of parity this year.

I will continue to say I want the 10 wins not because of playoffs - because this team isn't built to do anything in the playoffs - but to give Arizona a lower first round draft pick.

I would love to see 10 wins because it would indicate that the Texans are a very good team already in their first year with a rookie HC and QB despite loosing plenty of stars due to injury.
And that means we have a bright future.
I still think we have a bright future as it stands - our team coming back healthy next year with an added infusion of talent will have this team making plenty of noise.

It wouldn't necessarily mean that. It could, but not necessarily.

They're not a good team, imo, regardless how many games they win. Better than a bunch of other teams, maybe. But there's a lack of any consistency in anything good teams do. They're off to a good start, that's promising. Now we need to see consistency.

I think healthy, they are a good team. They're getting the playmakers that they haven't had here in a while. Just gotta figure out how to keep them on the field. The inconsistency we see from them comes down to depth. That's where they're not quite there yet. But even so I don't think it's too bad. There's just been so many injuries that we're depending on way too many back end of roster/practice squad/street FA type guys. Not going to be very consistent going that route.

The consistency will come with playing time and getting on the same page.
It all takes time and practice and the pre season is also a good time to help develop that.

I am OK not making the playoffs. We aren’t making a serious run. Too many injuries. The season is a success regardless. Having more success will be for bragging rights in the division and trading away the Browns pick vs the Texans.

We don’t need bragging rights in the division. They all suck.

The draft pick trade is a dead issue. Most thought the Texans would be picking top 5 or 10 at best. Not the case.

We are good.

I appreciate the psychologic benefits myself. We got a lot of young guys on this team & if they get out of this season with the Division title or the expectation to be in the play-offs every year, that would be great.

They must protect CJ - no ifs, buts or maybes about it.
Sure, CJ can help himself but a running game would also help.
No more ***** footing around.

I'm not understanding you guys. Of course we want the playoffs. Give our rookie QB and the rest of the team that experience, if nothing else. Maybe we get trounced immediately or maybe Stroud keeps us competitive. There is nothing bad being in a playoff game vs. Not making the playoffs.

I am not saying I don’t want to make playoffs. I am saying I am OK if we don’t make it. Two different things.

Exactly.

This team even with its problems will immediately be better than any of the Vladimir O'Brien piece of crap "teams" we shoveled into playoffs in years past.

Don’t agree. That 51-7 team was better than the current injured team we have. We are on the 4th string in some positions. Getting players off the waiver wire just so we don’t have to get someone out of their deer stand.

I want Stroud to get playoff experience and they should win the next 2 games if Stroud is healthy.

Hey Steel didn't you predict 10 wins this season some time ago ?
I got to admit you had some measure of faith earlier than most.
Me I'm just excited we've got a real NFL team here in Houston again, and hopes & expectations for a promising future !

I am not saying I don’t want to make playoffs. I am saying I am OK if we don’t make it. Two different things.

Fully agree. And to be honest, some of my being OK if they don't make it is about wanting to avoid the absolute shite show of a meltdown around here if this overachieving team that makes the playoffs gets blown out in a WC game. Because we know it will happen.

That’s not a guarantee either. This team is hampered with injuries to key players on both sides of the ball. You or anyone else shouldn’t expect them to win because of one player (Stroud) being healthy.
Of course not but I think I can put more value in a win as a result of a single player. Stroud is by far the most valuable player on this team. Losing him hurts more than any other player. Therefore… the rest of the team usually does the whole “next man up” thing while Stroud keeps us clackin’ downfield.

Just got out of the car and listening to the 610 afternoon show. Don't ask me why. Probably because ESPN 97.5 is spotty out where I live and their afternoon lineup has become crap as well.

Basically they were saying the whole exceeding expectations and playing with house money don't matter. They raised our expectations and we need to hold this team accountable for failing to make the playoffs, because we should already be holding them accountable for the losses to the Falcons, Panthers and Jets. Basically anything less than being 11-4 right now was unacceptable and questioned people's fandom if they were happy with what they have accomplished so far and were not demanding a win this weekend and a playoff spot.

I sent in a text that he was probably one of those parents who is never satisfied with anything their children do because it could have always been better. His response was that after the season we will look back at it being a great season no matter what they do these next two games, but right now we have "demand a win" from this team and "hold them accountable", whatever that means.

I think everyone wants that. But even these meaningful games at the end of the season are great for a young team to go through. I'm excited for now and the future. It's been a while since I've felt this way. Maybe the 1st quarter of that divisional round game at Arrowhead.

I simply lose all respect to talking heads (610) when their comments are just over the top.

2020: 4-12 / O’Brien - Crennel / O’Brien Draft: No RD1 / 5 Picks RD2-RD5 / Greenard, Heck

2021: 4-13 / Culley / Caserio Draft: No RD1 or RD2 / 5 Picks RD3-RD6 / Collins, Jordan, Mills, Wallow

2022: 3-13-1 / Smith / Caserio Draft: 9 Picks RD1-RD6 / Stingley, Pitre, Metchie, Harris, Pierce, Quitoriano, Green / **Positive Cap Space**

2023: 8-7 / Ryans / Caserio Draft: 9 Picks RD1-RD7 / Stroud, Anderson, Scruggs, Dell, Horton, To’oTo’o, Patterson, Hutchinson / **Positive Cap Space**

Anyone who couldn’t take into account that the Texans are in a 4 year window where the players have seen 5 HC’s, 4 new systems, no cap space for 2 seasons, lack of draft picks for 2 seasons, lack of overall talent, and a truck load of injuries…..have to be kidding themselves if they’re going to rail against this team, now, for games they should’ve won which may cost the Texans a playoff bid. LOL!!!

Caserio arrived in 2021 to a “Titanic” situation. With draft picks (finally), cap space (finally), and solid HC (finally)…..this team is performing far above expectations this season. Caserio, Ryans, and Stroud could all be in the running for awards at season’s end, something I doubt many would’ve thought possible before the season started. Caserio is finishing year 3 of his 5 year window and he has this team storming towards a solid 4th and 5th seasons.

This is exciting for Texans fans whether this team makes the playoffs or not.

Preach brother preach. Spot on

I don't live in the world of lowered expectations.

I think Stroud is that good.
You’ve been telling fans on here to lower their expectations. And now it’s you don’t live in a world of lowered expectations.

Stroud was scum of the earth, another flunky from Ohio State, a terrible judge of character and Mills is being treated wrong. To I think Stroud is that good. Oh how the world changes.

I also remember the criticism throughout the preseason too. Lol

So if CJ doesn’t win these two games, will you go back to bashing him and saying he can’t win the big games?

SteelB has been quite public in his repentance.

His stance isn't unique to him. Some in Week 17 measure everything based on their expectations at the start of the season. Some measure everything based on their expectations as the season progressed.

I'm in the first camp but I don't begrudge the expectation shifting crowd unless it's the moronic talking heads.

I can't understand what they are thinking except they're using a whole bunch of hindsight. They point to the Falcons, Panthers, & Jets as "bad" teams, as if this isn't a team that's been as bad as the Jets for three years.

Hold them accountable? Poppycock. I'm still patting them on the back for turning this shidtshow around.

Falcons and Panthers games were early in the piece so why should we be so hard on such a new team?
Who would have thought we would go on the road and beat Pittsburgh like that?
It is what it is - the critics are usually too critical.

Well yeah, from a *right now* standpoint, a team that has Hopkins and a shell of JJ and Cunningham and I think Reader and Reid at that time was probably better on paper compared to our team as it is considering last week's actives.

The difference of course is who's at the helm and the attitude around the team. I have more confidence in this team than anything from those years. Those teams were straight up fake.

My dream scenario is the Texans win the banner and beat the Browns in the 1st round of the playoffs. Second round and beyond is playing with house money.

This solidifies that the Browns draft pick the Texans kept will be more valuable than the Texans (which was traded to the Cardinals). And it doesn’t hurt to stick it to Cleveland for trading for WD40!

Jags are in a must win game Sunday if they want to win the banner. Hopefully the Titans don’t roll over and put up a fight.

With the Texans-Colts being flexed to Saturday night, the good guys will know whether they will be in the playoffs Saturday night! Just have to wait one additional day to find out if they win the banner as well.

I am not saying I don’t want to make playoffs. I am saying I am OK if we don’t make it. Two different things.
If we do get in, a lot of people will be pi$$ed if we are one and done - personally, I was not expecting playoffs at all this season and even having a winning season already was at the top end of my hope list.
Having a shot at the playoffs is gravy for mine even though I will hate to lose to my most hated team in the league.
