Week 2: Texans vs Colts

Most impressive stat for CJ. No interceptions first two games. I can’t remember the last time a rookie QB tossed that many throws in the first two games of his career, and was that clean. His accuracy and field vision are huge pluses.

He also leads guys WAY better than Mills as long as he gets the time. For an example, look at the one to Nico that caught him in stride. He throws a beautiful, very catchable ball.

Stylistically, he is my preferred type of QB. An accurate Pocket passer who sees the entire field, and is basically a PG in football form.

It’s only two games, but he is way, way, ahead of the curve as far as I’m concerned.
Nothing says great stats like prevent defense.

Anthony Richardson looked good but at the same time proved that, while being fun to watch, run first QBs don’t last. I liked what I saw from CJ Stroud today. He faced adversity and showed no quit. I’m cautiously optimistic and hope Caserio can get him the missing pieces on the offensive line needed for a pocket passer to really excel!

Bryce young will be in shambles tmw vs saints. Just glad we chose the true #1 pick in Cj
It is way too soon to determine we got the better QB. That is my opinion anyway. Two games in and CJ doing as well as he has done under a makeshift O-line is definitely something to get enthused about but let's see how Bryce Young does in the coming weeks. Indianapolis is not considered any kind of serious threat to win a championship.

I wasn’t able to watch the game. I know we lost. But could someone give a synopsis on how we played? I see that Nico and Tank had a decent game.

What were the positives and negatives of the game?
The makeshift OL was horrendous, but CJ was able to make some very nice drives, the WR corps, which I was a little worried about coming into the season, actually looks decent. This despite not being able to establish the run, again we can chalk that up to the OL.

Now CJ still has a lot of learning to do, seemed to miss some reads at times, holding the ball instead of taking what was available, got away with it a couple of times, got sacked a few times, certainly room for growth, though. You can’t fully take the stats at face value because he added about 100 yards vs prevent D, but this was a good showing from Stroud overall. He seemed to learn as he went along, and some of the drives he looked as good as I can remember seeing a rookie QB look.

Offensive playcalling, still room for improvement. I’m hoping to give Slowick a pass because he does need to protect his rookie QB behind a terrible OL. I mean Jones at LT, even Fant went down at RT, the backups are going down at this point, but some of the plays called also put Stroud without much chance to do anything positive.

Stroud definitely isn’t keen on scrambling, although he looks like he’d be a capable runner. Definitely I’d rather a pocket passé first who can take off if needed but he also needs to take yardage when it’s on offer.

D looked terrible, both starting safeties out for the game and Murray left concussed before the half, also. I think Pitre is a huge loss while injured, Jimmie Ward we haven’t had time to see him yet but surely another important player to lose, let’s hope their return yields improvement.

Injuries aside, the Texans were out coached today especially in the offensive play calling. But even Ryans was outcoached by Steichen. In that sense, the Colts look like they are light years ahead of where the Texans are. My doubts about some of Casario's personnel choices are mounting as well. At least Stroud is looking good.

Lance Z before the draft, said X and Y ended up happening. AKA his sources weren't correct.

So his sources are only correct when it makes sense with what you think?

He was wrong this year at the draft. Horribly wrong.

And I will mention again sense reading comprehension is a struggle. He said last year when he got Stingley and Green correct. Those sources were college related. AKA THEY WERE NOT TEXANS SOURCES...................................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have your head in the stand.

After the pick we had two posters that are credible say it was driven by Hannah aka as Texans owner. Lance said after the draft 08/30 that ownership has responsibility for the pick.

It’s up to you to do what you want with that information.

The stats were good well before the prevent defense..
Somewhere in the region of 20/26 for 280yds, 2tds i believe, from memory.

And then you have to give some credit for him absolutely making the most of the cushion, too.

And rookie QBs deserve to pad their stats when they can because enough of them look horrible and see so many exotic concepts to bamboozle them. CJ stood up to everything thrown at him today.

I remember roughly 20/29 for 258 and 2 tds while driving to make it a one score game.

Nonetheless, the kid was doing the thing before they gave him all the real estate underneath to create a more monster statline.

Trenches would really set this team up for success.

Someone mentioned this earlier in a post about both Tunsil and Howard being soft in the run game….was one of the reasons I was saying trade them and draft some new tackles with a pure and nasty mean streak.

Texans may not need a WR1 if the OL gets fixed, but to ensure this….OL need to be on the radar come 2024. The same will go for DT’s. An absolute must to see how well the other pieces truly are.

I’m still willing to see if the following OL could make me think otherwise:

LT- Tunsil
LG- Scruggs
OC- Patterson
RG- Mason
RT- Howard

By the time Scruggs gets back, Patterson should be rounding into a Center. I’d ask Scruggs to start learning the LG spot and the moment he’s able to practice again….he’s taking all his snaps at LG. I believe he’s more athletics than Patterson, and could be a nice addition to helping open the run game.

Sorry, I totally forgot about Nick Broeker who should be able to start playing by next week. Might have another answer at OG.

Thanks for the details. We’re a young team. There’s going to be a lot of learning this first year with the new coaching staff.

I’m glad there have been some positives through 2 games. Hopefully once we’re healthier we’ll be getting some W’s on the board.

My 2 cents, Patterson way ahead of Juice at Guard and Juice slightly ahead as OC. Main thing is Jarrett getting NFL snaps. Hopefully Scruggs back on field soon and it will be interesting to see what the decision is for both of those players.

Hopefully the players are getting good coaching even when they're not on the field.

Which counts more, Stroud playing behind one of the worst o-lines in the NFL, or, Stroud playing against one of the worst defensive backfields in the NFL?
Playing behind one of the worst OL's in the NFL. It would be difficult to hit receivers if there were no secondary players in the face of the pass rushes CJ's been seeing.
