Meh, only slightly better than Mills.
Jones rating - 89
Mills rating - 83.3
If Slick Bill is trying to move him, that is a red flag.
So glad Bill O'Brien is not here - he would have given up #2 and #12 for him.
If you can get him for the right price i’d take him. I see his regression mainly being due to awful playcalling from the Patricia/Judge platoon and dealing with injury. He played very well his rookie season. And is still on his rookie contract. And was good enough to start ahead of freshmen Bryce Young at Alabama.

I’m thinking if I can get Jones with pick 33 or a combo 3rd/4th then I am taking it. Jones plus Will Anderson at 2 and another player at 12 sounds like a solid core.

I'm pretty cautious about this one.
He was under Bill Belichek who is no slouch and Patriots still possess a better line than Texans.
I fear he may regress here.
Plus I can't get over the fact that if Belichek is prepared to move him, does that mean he has hit his ceiling? Or is there something else wrong with him?
Proceed with caution.

I'd possibly kick the tires but hoody probably wants #2 and maybe more. If he wants 33 and nothing else, sure. But that's extremely unlikely. I think it's a fantasy. He will want to much.

I also like the upside of Bryce and CJ more than the upside of Mac. Jones can be pretty good in the right system and I'm in agreement that MP was the wrong play caller for him, but a franchise QB? Eh, not so sure. Although like beauty, how a person defines that term will vary some.

Year one, I think the Patriots system made Jones look a little better than he is. Year two, the Patriots system made Jones look a lot worse than he is. What does that mean? If I'm the Panthers or Texans, I'm not trading my shot to draft Young or Stroud. If I'm the Colts, I'm definitely considering trading my pick for Mac Jones.

Great take and totally agree. I think both Stroud and Young have a better chance to be "the dude". Not that Jones is a totally finished product and I think he'd fit a general WCO pretty well. I dunno...maybe a high level Schuab is sort of the upside I am thinking of. But I still like the upside better of the two guys above and there is a 100% chance we land one of the two at 1.2 without giving up any additional capital, so I'm staying put and I'll take the one that Carolina doesn't and mold him from scratch.

I don't trade Jones if I'm the Patriots. Not for a draft choice less than #2. Probably not in a Lamar Jackson package, because I don't think Belichick could make an offense like that work. There's a problem between Belichick & Jones, as reported. But IMO, Belichick created that problem. Jones had twice as many drops last season as 2021. He had less time in the pocket last year, despite being blitzed half as much. Year one without Brady and/or McDaniels was a failure. Now, Belichick has Bill O'Brien back. That should help. :kitten:

Why would you say the Pats OL is better than what the Texans will have this season?

Pats OL:

LT Trent Brown (Advantage Texans)

LG Cole Strange (Push)

C David Andrews (Advantage Pats)

RG Michael Onwenu (Advantage Pats)

RT Conor McDermott (Advantage Texans)

Texans still may add to center position which is only position without at least average. Kenyon Green needs to make a jump year two for sure but we know we will get at least above average starter quality play from Mason/Howard and all pro from Tunsil.

Tomlinson played 36% of the snaps with the Broncos last season as a 12 game starter on offense. Y TE blocking specialist, his position coach brings him here along with Andrew Beck.6’6” 263

Will be camp competition for Quitoriano.

He was graded the 2nd best run blocker among TEs with the Ravens in 2021 where he started 7 of 17 games and played 26% of the offensive snaps. Like a 6th OL on the field!

DB Darius Phillips who just signed has been a walking injury since he entered the NFL in 2018.............MCL, knee articular damagae, calf tears, groin tear, shoulder subluxation, hamstring tears (the last one sustained last Sept and dogged him throughout the season...........found himself on IR several times) until he was finally IR'ed in Dec. He has managed to miss many games in his career, while spending a good amount of time on IR for the aforementioned reasons.

Did Caserio sign Phillips?

Former Penn State center Juice Scruggs is CBS Sports' candidate for the Houston Texans' "most questionable" pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
Not surprising. My questionable pick as well. Juice was a very late riser and wasn't on the radar of most boards. He reportedly impressed during the Senior Bowl and the Shrine Bowl.

The team is making acquisitions today in order to fill out the 90 man roster. Of the players acquired I would say Greg Little has the best chance of making the team. He was a highly regarded 2nd round pick in 2019 that flamed out in Carolina and started 7 games for the Dolphins last season playing 50% of the offensive snaps for them.

His PFF rating was abysmal but if the team can find what teams saw in him for him to go 2nd round then he could be a swing tackle candidate. Will have to beat out Heck/Deculus for the opportunity which is no guarantee. But he has the physical profile for the position. 6’5” 310 35 1/4” arm length.

LZ gave him a Duane Brown comp coming out of college:

Jermaine Carter was Carolina’s starting MLB in 2021. Interestingly enough, this is the year the Panthers did the “veteran special” trade package with Denzel Perryman because they were going to cut him after he lost to Carter in their training camp battle. They traded Perryman and a 7th for a 6th round pick to the Raiders.

The Raiders got Perryman’s only healthy NFL season which resulted in a pro bowl.

Lets hope the Texans keep the pro bowl MLB and make a veteran trade special for the one they are going to cut after training camp…

He was one of Steelb's favorites for the Texans in the first round, so there's that

I remember Little. Some here were high on him. So were some NFL teams, hence pick 37. But he had some juice coming out. There’s a reason he was a high draft pick. Still a young buck too.

I don’t know why he’s been underwhelming, but he has more physical tools in his tool chest then Heck does.

If he can harness those assets in camp, I’d say he’s the favorite to be the swing tackle on game days.

If he has no juice..so be it. Heck is meh, but I can live with him if Little doesn’t play big.

Either way, he is the most interesting/intriguing post camp vet FA they have signed imho. Nice under the radar signing.

I understand that you don't take risks on missing out on your guy. Seems they were determined to get Scruggs.

Seems premature. Would have rather seen Collins for a year in Ryans defense.
Agreed. But looks like they want to potentially only have to replace one starting DT instead of two next offseason. Assuming Rankins plays well enough to earn a new deal i’d bet a starting DT contract will be making upwards of 13-15 million/year next offseason. Looks like a bet they can lock in a starting DT early for cheaper.

Keene has had a knee meniscectomy in 2019 and a meniscus repair in 2021, with knee problems in between and following his last knee surgery. Longevity is questionable. Durability in the short term is to be seen. Hopefully he gives us some good time......time he has not been able offer so far.
