Except it is the rare player that has made it through high school and 3 years of college ball with no injuriesExactly. You never know what's behind the door until you open it. No one can hit on ALL their draft choices, but you can lessen your chances of a bad draft by NOT drafting injured players. Enough of them will get injured anyway without help from their college injuries.

Thanks Lovie!True, but I think Stingley's injuries were a definite red flag that was ignored.

This demolition is taking longer. The lost decade?I haven't been complaining about the Texans this year, because I realize that they are rebuilding and that takes time.
What hole is getting deeper?
Finally the Texans are loaded with draft picks and cap space for the foreseeable future. 1st time in years they've had this combination. You would think you would be happy, but I guess not.
Out of curiosity. Has any team, not just the Texans ever followed or even come close to drafting your preferred draft order? Is the objective of making draft selections/prediction and hindsight posting for the thrill of having a player you would select become a great NFL player?
BTW. This is an honest question from someone who doesn't follow pre-draft discussions. Based on my knowledge, neither the Texans nor any NFL GM is making draft picks similar to what is being posted here. But I seem to always read what one poster, or another would do with draft picks.
Man those are fighting words. We’re boxing on spot. Lol no way do I act like that dumb ash Steven A SmithNature of the beast & there’s No doubt we obviously got it all covered around here. if The Texans or ESPN/Fox would just give us all the opportunity, The Texans would most likely be contending for and winning SB’s left and right in no time & set up for it for decades b/c apparently its just that easy……i mean with with all the right decisions WE’D be making obviously. I mean Look at who we have on our MB alone:
@76Texan & @Texian & = resident fake ass Bill Polian & Capologist Chris Olsen
@beerlover = resident Greg Cosell / Mel Kiper
@Speedy = resident Vince Lombardi
we would even have the media covered for influence in the event 1 of the above wants to try to go off script & we gotta hold them accountable by putting them on blast
We got
@Porky = resident Jim Rome/Mike Francesca
@steelbtexan & @Earl34 as our resident Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe
@Texansballer74 = resident Stephen A Smith
We even got a REAL team doc in @CloakNNNdagger to give us the REAL on these prospects to stay away from in the draft/FA & not lie to us on the injury report every week…which he actually does do for us here lol.
It was a lost decade the minute RS drafted Derrick. I tried to tell posters this. But they wouldn't listen.This demolition is taking longer. The lost decade?
Yeah, they've had to go 9-37-1 in 3 seasons in order to obtain those draft picks and cap space. Doesn't take any special talent to do that; that's the easy part.
Now they actually have to build a winning football team. And there's nothing in the Houston water that ensures they will become a Super Bowl team just because you have a few more first round draft picks.
Man , my 13 yr old could've navigated that trade. 3 1st rd picks, no division teams to sit at the table for a 26 yrs old all pro caliber qb. That's not hard to trade even with the off field allegations. You're acting like he was trading a 34 yr old qb or something. Hell, I wouldn't have had any parameter other than the 3 1st rd picks. If the Titans or Colts had the capital, I would've sent him there if it was the best deal. It wasn't anything special about that trade especially since he had a no trade clause.They also had to navigate trading a Sexual Predator.
But you're right, who those picks are and if Cal will allow Caserio to draft Hill type players will determine how successful the rebuild will be
And RS had actual GM training before he became aTexan.It was a lost decade the minute RS drafted Derrick. I tried to tell posters this. But they wouldn't listen.
Then we need to sign your 13 yr old up if he can do better than the 2nd best deal for a single player in NFL history. Not good GM training apparently.And RS had actual GM training before he became aTexan.
Why are you grading the trade when you don't have a clue on how the prospects are going to turn out? Remember the RG3 trade? Ricky Williams trade? Hell, the Russell Wilson trade that seems 1 sided towards the Seahawks. So far, based on early returns, this is nowhere close to the 2nd best trade in the nfl. Hell, its the 2nd best trade that happen this past offseason. You can talk sexual predator and maybe that's your way of elevating your perception of the value of the trade, but Watson is a real life qb in the nfl. What has that extra pick done so far? Check back in 4 years and we will see how good the trade was.Then we need to sign your 13 yr old up if he can do better than the 2nd best deal for a single player in NFL history. Oh I agree with you somewhat. He may have some good training, he just was a terrible GM. Regardless of that fact, RS still had more training to be a GM than Nick Caserio.Not good GM training apparently.

Dont forget the guarenteed money they also had to cough upwhile i agree with you on the “broad strokes” of all this, the civil suits and potential criminal charges made pulling off this trade infinitely more harder & dealing with that was no small thing. Then there was his no trade clause. it just wasn’t as simple as trading a 26 year old franchise qb in his prime to the highest bidder is.
Consider the Vick situation and how all that went for the Falcons org. They didn’t really have a choice in what happened to them, but it was similar to our situation….the falcons just didnt have the benefit/option to trade Vick like we did and even if they had, they woulda got pennies on the dollar..if any offers at all. But like us i believe they’d just signed him to a big contract….He was a franchise qb in his prime….everything about that org & team was built around what he did…there only recourse was to try to recoup some of the guaranteed money & it Took them a minute to recover from that.
And if he'd have selected Sauce instead and he tore his achilles in the first game would the same still hold?
Vick went to jail and he wasn't a qb everyone had a taste for. He had an injury history also. Once Watson was cleared of jail, it was smooth sailing and who had the stomach with the fan base.while i agree with you on the “broad strokes” of all this, the civil suits and potential criminal charges made pulling off this trade infinitely more harder & dealing with that was no small thing. In terms of draft capital it is.
We're talking apples/oranges.

Thanks for the clarificationThat was Brooks
He would say the same yes. As well as from what it sounds like, Stingley was Lovies pick. Nick wanted Sauce and Cal broke the tie...AKA HC gets a pick even if the GM doesn't 100% agree. Oddly, it happens with many teams
That Jeff George trade was huge.![]()
5 Blockbuster NFL Draft Trades That Did Not Pan Out
Here are five blockbuster NFL trades involving draft picks since 1990 that certainly didn't work out for the team that paid the higher cost.athlonsports.com
The guaranteed money doesn't really have anything to do in this case.Dont forget the guarenteed money they also had to cough up
Just to move a few spots from 12th.Washington got an entire draft and half of the next draft.
LolThey said on the radio this morning that Lovie rates CBs as the 5th most important position in his defensive scheme. Picking a CB was Caserio's agenda. Picking which one was influenced by Lovie.
This is true in mix of a cover two with Tampa 2.They said on the radio this morning that Lovie rates CBs as the 5th most important position in his defensive scheme. Picking a CB was Caserio's agenda. Picking which one was influenced by Lovie.
He may rate it as 5th most important in his grand scheme of things but he did specifically call that position out during this past off-season.They said on the radio this morning that Lovie rates CBs as the 5th most important position in his defensive scheme. Ekwonu or Cross at LG would have been nice.He may rate it as 5th most important in his grand scheme of things but he did specifically call that position out during this past off-season.

What I was saying is when you trade for a player AND have to pay them top of the league money, it many times can reduce the return. It happens, but sometimes people give lessThe guaranteed money doesn't really have anything to do in this case.
The Browns have him an all-guaranteed contract that negates everything.
If anything, the Texans "bought" a bit of extra from the Browns with the money they had ponied up.
The Texans did have to pay Watson 10M plus to sit on the sideline in 2021, but that's pretty much it.
His signing bonus with the Texans was small in regard to the annual salary that it doesn't really matter.
It's pretty rare for a player to be overhyped both prior to and after the draft. But then there's Jordan Davis, 5th on the Eagles in number of DT snaps. At least Stingley and Green were on the field. Over 3X the snaps of Davis.Davis is who would've been nice.
He got hurt,It's pretty rare for a player to be overhyped both prior to and after the draft. But then there's Jordan Davis, 5th on the Eagles in number of DT snaps. At least Stingley and Green were on the field. Over 3X the snaps of Davis.
In games Davis has played (10), the Eagles are giving up 117 yards rushing/game.He got hurt,
Look at the Philly run defense before and after he got hurt.
Another case of stats lying.In games Davis has played (10), the Eagles are giving up 117 yards rushing/game.
In games Davis has not played (4), the Eagles are allowing 131 yard rushing/game.
So there is a difference. But why are you giving Davis total credit for the 14 yards? He played in less than 1/3 of the snaps in 6 of the 10 games. His highest % of snaps is 42%, lowest is 11%. Doesn't a guy have to be on the field at least half to time to take credit for how great the defense is when he's there?
I can make a better case of not being NFL ready. Both Pitre and Stingley have more sacks (1 each) than Davis (zero). I'm not calling anyone a bust. But both Stingley & Green have shown more as rookies than Davis.Another case of stats lying.
You can make a case for injury
He may rate it as 5th most important in his grand scheme of things but he did specifically call that position out during this past off-season.
Lovie Smith: We can’t play the type of football we want until we’re better at cornerback
Yes Davis was injured, has played well and was getting good reviews prior to the injury. Gannon is pleased with his progress. The difference in comparisons with Stingley and Green playing time is Davis is backing up Fletcher Cox a 6X pro Bowler and 4X all-pro player.Another case of stats lying.

If all it takes was to know we needed a cornerback in 2022, I should be getting the $5 million salary.He may rate it as 5th most important in his grand scheme of things but he did specifically call that position out during this past off-season.
Lovie Smith: We can’t play the type of football we want until we’re better at cornerback
The biggest reasons for Davis not playing 3rd downs was Jalen Carter. You keep saying that doesn’t make it so. Gannon seems to disagree with you. If you take his current pff grade he ranks around 30th about where JJ Watt ranks. He’s also playing thru a high ankle sprain. Still given the choice between taking Davis at #13 vs taking a fat, slow, weak Green, I will take Davis all day long.Davis is 5th in snaps among Eagle DTs. He’s 3rd string. Wasn’t the biggest knock on Davis (along with pass rush skills) that he was easily gassed and could play even 50% of snaps in a game? Same thing herein the NFL.
Part time player at pick #13.
Jalen Carter. The latest overrated Georgia d-lineman.The biggest reasons for Davis not playing 3rd downs was Jalen Carter.
