He does reduce their sense of urgency of selecting a qb high on the first day of the draft in 2023... meaning they won't overpay to move up in the draft
Missing the point.Geno is hardly a “success” story. 1st of all, He’s been in the league for nearly 10 years and has played for 4 different teams and systems……but he has been with Seattle for the last 3….under the same HC and offensive system…He also has a true #1 WR in DK and a great #2 in Lockett….Seahawks are still only 1 win better than us and fans arent looking at him as the answer….pretty sure Carroll and the seahawks FO aren’t either. He’s another Tyrod Taylor.
I agree. I add that those teams that get better players/coaches is done apart from not winning games & drafting high. They draft well & evaluate their coaching. Why do teams begin to win? Because they get better players and/or better coaching. Teams begin to lose because the player talent pool or coaching regresses. The teams that consistently win or lose maintain their advantage/disadvantage in talent and/or coaching.
In a vacuum, no one wants to lose. That's just where the Texans are. When your talent level is so depleted, there is nothing anyone can do but lose. It's not because the coaches or players are working at losing. But they should not want to lose.
I don't expect them to be contenders... I think the wheels will fall offIm not sure thats 100% either tho. If the Seahawks are somehow in playoff contention late in the season & wind up not getting there primarily b/c Geno's play, i could see a situation where they maybe fall prey to the same thinking every FO does in the draft...which is "we just need a qb.." if a highly thought of qb prospect is even anywhere close to falling to them in the 1st......like a Will Levis or a Bryce Young.

Of couse each oscillation is a year, more or less. You may not see it from one year to the next but over time. Like the Patriots, Packers, Steelers. They saw long droughts because something interrupted their process. They made this correction, or that then experienced long periods of winning. I'm speaking of the period before Brady to the period of Brady. The period before Rothlisberger then the period of Rothlisberger. The period before Favre & the period of Favre.
I use the QB as reference because I do agree the QB is a big part of it.
My point, drafting well is more conducive to winning that drafting early. If you're in a position to do both, great. Teams should want to draft early & draft well. But they should not want to lose. Acquire additional draft picks. Work the draft. Do not let the draft work you.
People and cattle are the same in that you never know what you get until after you get it.
It's not just the draft. It's the coaching too. Mike Devlin should never have been employed as long as he was. But it was as if the guy evaluating the coaching kept saying that he needs to improve the talent. & regardless who they plugged in, they continued to point to the talent alone as the problem.Yeah, that's the trick isn't it? Making more right choices in the draft than wrong ones. The theory is simple, the execution is almost impossible. People and cattle are the same in that you never know what you get until after you get it.
Agreed. In a vacuum, no one wants to lose.
I don't know. In the future I hope I'm more like you & not take the bait when it's brought up & instead argue with the guy responding to it.Why is it continually brought up?
I thought it was a box of chocolates that’s you never know what you gonna get?
The Texans chocolate melted.
Exactly, therefore if a guy isn’t getting it down,I don’t see any problem with making the necessary changes. And so far Mills isn’t getting it done. His accuracy is way the bleep off. And IMO he isn’t playing with the same confidence that he showed in the last five games of last season.Agreed.

Have their been changes between last 5 of last season and first 5 of this season? And IMO he isn’t playing with the same confidence that he showed in the last five games of last season.
Some just aren't wanting to go through the growing pains of rebuilding the team. Guess what, those pains are going to happen whether they like it or not.
I don't think Mills has been that inaccurate since the Week 2 against the Broncos, where he missed wildly on several throws. Completion percentage is trending up and has been hitting most intermediate and deep throws. All QBs miss throws every NFL game, and Mills has his also. Hasn't been egregious with Mills lately at all - drops have been a bigger concern and Cooks hasn't been reeling in catches he should make, even if slightly off target. Disagree with your characterization.Exactly, therefore if a guy isn’t getting it down,I don’t see any problem with making the necessary changes. And so far Mills isn’t getting it done. You know that he injured his thumb on his throwing hand ???Mills is highly INACCURATE and highly LATE with his short passes. It blows my mind how he is a starter!!!!! Its over for the man. Drive him to the nearest Mc'Donalds and let him flip burgers.
Oh yeah he can "FIX IT"....... neh same on all 4 games and last season too.
You know that he injured his thumb on his throwing hand ???
Has he fully recovered from this injury? We don't know. How much has this impacted his release? We don't know. But we can guess it did have an impact.
He obviously has played through it, but how long will it take for him to fully recover?
He really hasn't been getting sacked that much.
He gets flushed a lot.
Do you think he has some subtle moves that help in that regard? He really hasn't been getting sacked that much.
Yes, he moves well within the pocket.Do you think he has some subtle moves that help in that regard?
Yes, he moves well within the pocket.
The main thing he needs to improve is his accuracy, he's really regressed in this area. I also think he needs to stop predetermining where he's going with the ball and really go through his reads. This is something most young QB's go through particularly QB's that have played as little as Mills has.
He's got anxiety again .... just like the end of last year. He's missing on 4 to 8 yard passes. In my youth, my brother in law and I, could sit in lawn chairs 25-30 yards apart and throw passes to each other and never miss, or fall out of the chairs ! We weren't anything but calm .... cause we were drinking Thanksgiving Beers .... and we were calm ! Mills has found "calm" at times, and he looked All-Pro. We let one of the most dominant guards in the league get away from us .... because we couldn't diagnose Anxiety ! "Those who are ignorant of History, are doomed to repeat their blunders." It's tough to solicit help .... especially in Mills' situation. When you're the best and the coolest, and the leader, it's tough to say .... I'm scared" !
I thought the end of last year was what gave everyone hope? He's got anxiety again .... just like the end of last year. H
I thought the end of last year was what gave everyone hope?
So he didn't show anxiety at the end of last year? Perhaps you misinterpreted his anxiety to begin with ? And are now?It did .... we had it .... we misinterpreted his success as "cured," when in reality, it merely went back into hiding .... a kind of self defense mechanism .... all the ingredients for an "Alien V" !!
Don't need much time to throw a pass behind the LOS.

That's my issue. Mills looks good when Pep opens it up. Just go back and watch the stretch in the Chargers game when Mills brought us back. The problem is when Pep doesn't open it up, Mills looks uncomfortable. Just let the kid play, so we can all see what he is capable of. If Pep keeps on with the conservative playcalling, we may never see what Mills is truly capable of, or vice versa. Whether or not Mills is the guy or not, we won't be able to truly tell if Pep doesn't turn him loose to either sink or swim. Take the damned floaties off. Then we'll be able to see if Mills can be the guy or if he really does suck.It took him roughly 6 starts to gel with the offense and Kelly's play calling. He looked very good down the stretch. This season...the old offense and Kelly are out and the new offense with Pep are in. He's got 6 starts under his belt so I'm curious to see if this bye week helped with getting the offense in gear. Hope Pep opens it up a bit more.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the offense. Remember he ran this in college. The major problem is his mechanics and his confidence. He’s sailing passes over his receivers heads and for some reason he’s struggling with throwing the ball to the out patterns. Maybe it’s the pressure of knowing if he doesn’t succeed/play top notch quarterback play. The Texans will draft a quarterback in 2023. Pressure has a way of bursting pipes. It took him roughly 6 starts to gel with the offense and Kelly's play calling. He looked very good down the stretch. Which is weird because he wasn't having issues throwing the ball outside the numbers last year.I don’t think it has anything to do with the offense. Remember he ran this in college. I've wondered if Pep is trying to change Mills' mechanics. If so, that could be what is throwing Mills off. With the plays slowed down, maybe Mills is thinking about it too much. When we go more up-tempo, Mills just reacts, and seems to play much better.I don’t think it has anything to do with the offense. Remember he ran this in college. Very weird indeed.Which is weird because he wasn't having issues throwing the ball outside the numbers last year.

I’ve seen him hit only a few of those out patterns in uptempo. But he’s missed quite a few of those as well in uptempo. When Pep has upped his tempo Mills hasn't looked horrible hitting his outside passes. I know we're looking for more consistency on those throws and I'm guessing the consistency will come at some point this season. I'd like to see the TE's attacking the seams a bit more than than they do. Texans got to get defenses out of stacking the box and this would really help take some pressure off Mills.

I don’t know why Pep isn’t attacking the seam more often. Or is it Mills just not going through his pre snap correctly and recognizing the seam is open.
Opt is pretty hard to tell with this offense.

You can determine this after 16 games?yup. He is never going to lead this or any team to the promised land. At best he lands on a team with a dominant defense and enough weapons to where he is along for the ride.
Well of course you can. You do it all the time with your draft prediction. You can determine this after 16 games?
Please tell us who the next great QB in the next 2 drafts are going to be. How long are you willing to give these QBs before you come to the same conclusion you've come to with Mills?
Does a QB being a 1st rd pick make that big of a difference in your mind, where you give the new QB more leeway?
I'm just asking for other posters opinions on who they think the next great QB will be and if they think there's a great one in this draft. It stimulates conversation.Well of course you can. You do it all the time with your draft prediction.
