True and that's the thing that always puzzles me about this forum.
The majority of us agree that Watson misses throws, he is not perfect and there are things he has to improve and do consistently to reach his potential.
The majority of us agree that the coaching, scheme, play calling, play design and progressions can be better or "tweaked" to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.
If the majority of us agree with the two statements above that it's a combination of player and coaching getting better, why do we get into these polarizing debates?
Yup. Can't understand why people don't see/comprehend thisAll of these throws he's missing yet somehow he's completed 73.6% of his passes since OB has been gone. And with 9.6 Y/A so it's not a bunch of short safe throws. All of a sudden he's in rhythm with Cooks, who had a 47% catch rate the 1st 4 games with OB here, that's 81% since.
I keep going back to the Cecil Shorts/Wade Smith interview where they said there was just so much involved with this complicated offense, and that they'd practice plays for a game and never go back to them, always adding and using something else and never going back to that, that it was just impossible to pick it all up. And that showed in the play, why they were so inconsistent.
All Kelly has to do is have a normal ******* offense that you can practice over and over and get down and learn, instead of that game to game bullshit OB sold us for years, I think you're going to see a big difference in the way they play. Already seeing glimpses of it.
They're still going to have issues because they have no run game and they still have coaches who can't coach anyone up, particularly the o-line who have never been able to execute a simple screen.

Let's see how he does this weekend. I see that you've already built in excuses if he doesn't do well.
Exactly. Complementary football.Watson could very well duplicate last weeks results or maybe do even better. What it will boil down to once again....can the defense do anything to prevent GB from dumping 600+ yards on them? Watson could put up 400+ yards if the offense decides to use the pass to setup the run since that's when they've been their absolute best over the last 2 games.

That's going to be a problem this year no matter what so I don't think we can refer to it as complimentary football in this instance. As much as the offense could score the defense could give up a score just as much. You will need your offense to sustain drives to limit the chances (measured in time) your defense can give up the panties (best odds). It won't be fair to the offense but it's the cards that have been dealt.Exactly. Complementary football.

During regular time, they had 4 more rushing attempts and 1 fewer passing attempts than the Titans (supposedly a running team). That's going to be a problem this year no matter what so I don't think we can refer to it as complimentary football in this instance. That free release by T J Watt is on the play call. They throw it hot to the RB.All I know personally after watching Watson 4 years is he is a good quarterback. Do I see us going to the Super Bowl with him? Possibly, with a better defense. See Eli Manning. Watson has been the best Texans quarterback since it’s inception. However, All I see is a stat monster that’s Way overpaid. I would be crying too, his agent is incredible. Is Watson the the next Warren Moon? Watson does not Have the same talent as elite qb’s that can anticipate anything quickly. I don’t know if its intelligence in reading the defense or just him relying on his elite Running abilities, thinking its Clemson. After 4 years he should he improved on reading defensive schemes. Making a call on the line for protection so TJ watt does not go unblocked. Maybe I’m Just a Women who has fun watching games, a Houston fan who would love nothing more than want a championship in my Hometown. The defense is another story, I miss seeing linebackers who know how to tackle. I miss Demeco and Cushing at their prime.
For me, I don't care if it's rushing (ground and pound) or passing (dink and dunk). The Texans IMO, have never been a smart team and I don't know if it's been the coaching, the players are both. Like having preset plays to run on questionable calls to beat a review and move quickly to execute it. Or rushing to the LOS for a QB sneak before the defense is ready to gain a penalty or 1st down on short yardage. Much like staying in bounds when trying to eat up time, those things should not require any coach's input. It may have occurred and I just didn't observe it, but I've never felt those type of instincts from the Texans.During regular time, they had 4 more rushing attempts and 1 fewer passing attempts than the Titans (supposedly a running team).
The only way they can control the clock even more is to have Watson running it like Lamar Jackson 'cause them RBs aren't going to be any better.
Are you sure you want to do that?
Or maybe, drill it into the offensive players to stay in bound on every play.
Is Deshaun Watson really going to be in on hiring his own Head Coach? And by implication the HC then is in on hiring his own GM? Pretty backwards way to operate.
According to DB yes. Pancakes having a voice tells me Cal cares more about PR than hiring the right people. I actually hate Pancakes being on the committee more than DW4. Might as well put Florio on the committee too. FU Cal keep on cashing those checks.
This franchise is so screwed for the next decade.
where did you see/hear McClain would be involved in the committee to hire a coach?

And why I'm hoping Cooks could bring late 1st round from Green Bay who need target for Rodgers. Not just Watson .... but Easterby , Cal & Pancakes are said to be the "internal team" in the coaching search.
I find it completely comical that Pancakes is on that internal team .... he is the most qualified of the bunch too. How funny is that ?!
How are the Reid disciples doing in Chicago/Philly?
Foles calls out Nagy's playcalling after the Bears fail to score an offensive TD.
Pederson's Eagles look almost as putrid on offense against the lowly NYG.
Pass on Bienemy
Fans never learn... I’m in favor of Bienemy getting his shot b/c he deserves it. If that happens to be here I’ll pull for the guy to be successful...But i won’t be under any illusions that our offense is suddenly gonna transform into anything close to what KC’s is b/c he ain’t Andy Reid and he ain’t bringing Mahomes, T-Hill or honey badger with him.
I’m also not too concerned with whose on the selection committee b/c chances are they probably have the same 2-3 candidates for each position at the top of their lists all of us “unqualified” folks have thrown around on this MB. Furthermore It just doesn’t mean a whole lot to choose who is perceived to be the best up and coming HC candidate. Especially when you consider we’ve failed with our last 2 HC selections both of which were at the top of the potential HC lists the years we hired them. see how that **** turned out. You really don’t know a guys’ a good fit for your organization until he’s put in the position.
At the end of the day I just want a GM that’s a good talent evaluator and a HC that can hire good assistants. We get that, all the other stuff (winning) pretty much falls into place....especially with the core pieces we already have in place a franchise QB and LT...who are locked up for the foreseeable future at that. That’s something that Kubiak nor BoB had when they started here.
I like Bieniemy but my biggest concern.....can he assemble a top notch coaching staff in his first season?
I mentioned this a couple weeks back - about any of these potential first time HC's.
But I think a top notch all around staff is a tall task in the first season. It might take a year or two to fill all those positions with quality people.
We're likely to get a first time OC / DC assuming that the eventual HC doesn't take one of those roles.
Then there's a bevy of position coaches & ST.
I hope he is. I'm not sold one way or the other. As long as we build on what little winning culture we do have. Our differences lie in whether DW4 is a true franchise QB. I'm talking about the Brady/Wilson/Mahomes/Rodgers type of franchise QB.

Rather lofty company you're expecting. Are you saying if he's not a HOF caliber QB he's a bust?
Well franchise QBs or not they are all eliminated from winning the Super Bowl in the next several years because their salaries are all above the magic 13.2% of cap space. So according to the 'Cap Space Theory' Watson is the only one out of the five with a hope in hell of winning the Super Bowl in 2021.
Watson
2021 8.7% of Cap Space
Rogers
2021 19.8% of Cap Space

No I don't really think it will become routine but I do think that the QB cap space number will slowly creep up over time. I also think that recognizing & drafting talent at all positions is going to be the deciding factor in years to come. In my opinion having talented players on rookie contracts is going to eventually become as important in the NFL as recruiting is in College ball.Do you really expect the it to become routine or the Texans to pull it off ?!

Brady is 5th on cap space this year. You can draft talented players all day, but the cap matters, if you're QB is taking up most of the Cap space you're not going to win a SB.
Brady at 50 mil over 2 yrs is looking like a bargain

Look up the cap space for QBs in 2021, 2022, and 2023.That looks like 6th to me .... behind Dak , Wilson , Goff , Garoppolo & Rivers.
And at $25m is 12.24% of the Bucs adjusted cap of $205m.
Dak's tops on that list at $31.4m (14.42%) with Wilson at $31m (15.52%).
Those numbers pale in comparison to the future cap hits of DW4 and Mahomes , at least $10m higher at their peak numbers. An increase of one third with a cap either static or in decline.
If you can't see the problem with those numbers in relation to Covid economics and the last 26 years of history .... You aint looking at facts.
Yeah, and Watson isn't making 40M this year or next year. He's making 25 mil nor 40 mil. Gonna make another 24 mil next yr. What a bargain.

By 2022, some will get paid; some might get paid.
And let's not forget, QB's contracts do get extended/reworked often.
If not for this Covid situation (which Mahomes and Watson's contracts seem to disregard totally), there's no telling how high the QBs' contract of the future may go.
Didn’t Tunsil get paid? How about Martin, Cunningham, Mercilus, and several other players/FA getting paid? When it was time Hopkins and Watt got their money too.
