Will the Texans get desperate in their search of a GM and HC?

Mangler

All Pro
With the Falcons’ firing of HC Dan Quinn, and GM Thomas Dimitroff (following their 0-5 start) the Texans are no longer the only team who will be heading into the offseason in search of their new GM and HC.

While there is hope that our home team chooses the right guys, can’t help but be nervous at the same time. We all know even more heads will roll as the season progresses, especially when it ends.

I just hope that the firm Cal hired does a good job because they can’t afford to screw it all up like they did when they hired Chin Hole. Here’s to hoping...

I have no faith in the Texan organization to do the right thing intentionally. Which doesn't mean they can't luck out and hire a genius coach an GM by accident. Which, IMO, is the only way it will happen.

And it could. We're in a wait and see game now. I really would like to see the Texans will a SB before I board the big spaceship in the sky. Seen the Astros and Rockets do it, just waiting on the Texans now.

Desperate to what end?

I don't understand the point of the question.
Maybe as in Cal’s mind being made up on a certain GM and not even consider any other options. Same with Bieniemy, as it seems that he’s a hot commodity these days. I’m not against getting Bieniemy, mind you. I believe he’s better than anyone we’ve had on offense the past 6-7 years! I don’t think I can bear another Rick Smith-Butt Chin type sh1t show...

Jags with Trevor Lawrence, Rams first plus two very high seconds and their own third plus two 4s? If I'm coach looking I'd look hard there. Defense better future also.
Yup the jags if they nail it, can turn it around and be a threat real quick. Dont know why but ive always envisioned them to be the top team in the afc south.......but they seem to always fall short

They are already desperate, IMO. They are unable to internally analyze potential HCs and GMs (apparently nobody in the building is qualified to do so), so they've outsourced that task to a corporate "global organizational consulting firm, synchronizing strategy and talent to drive superior performance for our clients." <---Korn Ferry's words, not mine.

Remember, this is the same firm that brought us Bill O'Brien.

Yeah, the stench of desperation is already in the air. . .

“We’ll cast a broad net and look at all of our options and try to find just the right guys that are really going to work hard together, be smart, be dedicated, and bring championships to Houston,” McNair said.

Great, we've got one of Goldilocks' three bears for an owner. Have to find the "just right" guys that checks off all his boxes.

You are exactly right, ******* insane isn't it, no really it is insanity. Doing the exact same thing expecting a different result.
I guess we end up with another ******* politician ass kisser.

You also are much nicer than me in describing the owner as one of the three bears.
Kudos for you for taking such a high road.

well... maybe this is the way to do it.

Interesting article on Jed Hughes of Korn Ferry who is helping the Texans with their search.

He was an assistant coach under Chuck Noll and Bud Grant.

Put together John Schneider and Pete Carroll in Seattle. Recommended Andy Reid to Chiefs.

To be fair, Korn Ferry assisted in getting Arians to Tampa, Reid to KC and Carrol to Seattle.

Of course they also assisted in bringing OB here. So there’s that.

Yeah, I know. It still takes some critical thought and deep analysis on the part of the person(s) making the decisions, and that's where I lack the confidence in the owners and and their BFF confidant, Football Osteen.

But, hey, blind squirrel theory and all that jazz, so we have that going for us as fans.

I believe they've already made their decision and its a foregone conclusion that Bienemy will be the next HC of this team.

I wouldn't call it desperation but I don't call it due diligence either.
Out of curiosity, without any interviews, what makes you think that? Cal will be influenced by media?

Excellent. I hope Bieniemy has come to the same conclusion.

At this point , Watson is a reclamation project , not a top tier QB.

So much for casting a wide net .... as Cal put it.

And for the record , I'm not against Bienemy getting the job but this franchise has to do its due diligence in this process - We have to know what his staff will look like.

I don't think so , he is still a project ... Maybe the best physical tools in the game today , but someone has to change his way of thinking about the position.

Looking at those deep shots is fine but you have to know when to cut your losses and take a positive play , not try to play superman every down.

It's like his mind has been poisoned by one of three sources - OB or supposed QB guru Quincy Avery (this guy's resume is shaky at best) , or Watson's own philosophy of the position.
He has it in his head that he can escape pressure anytime and that because he can , he should.
We all know he can't always escape and that those types of plays are simply unsustainable .... but one or more of those sources hasn't got the memo.

More Drew Brees , less Michael Vick. Be willing to take those easy yards and let your playmakers do their thing.

That playing from behind part .... that's something that seems to trigger the superman mode.

No. Don't care.
100% agree on that. They weren't the only team doing it, they just got scapegoated so MLB could save their precious Yankees and Dodgers.

As far as this post. They are already desperate. They showed that when Cal decided to work with Easterby to make this decision. Bieniemy would not be my 1st or 2nd choice for the job, but I do believe that he is the only worthy candidate that this team will look at.

I think JJ Watt addressed just that when he said players have to stop trying to do it all. IMO there are two players that have any possibility of that Watt and Watson. I agree with Justin James.

How in the world can you say that's a biased statement? I would say everyone on this board would say Watson and JJ Watt try to play like a Superman. Those two more so than any other on this roster bring it every play. You don't think Watt playing through core injuries and DeShaun play after leaving a lung on the field is not a Superman player? They both need to realize that is not always best for them or team.

Doesn't the Astros cheating cheapin their title for you?
Pats have been cheating since day one, does that cheapen their 6 rings? Every team cheats on some level, and really I’m not sure that recording things in a world where literally everybody is walking around with a camera is cheating, it’s just matter of who gets “caught”. Only people saying it cheapens the win are the people cheering for the other teams just like 31 fan bases say the Pats victories are cheapened.

Honestly no I don’t think they will get desperate. One thing we might have learned about Cal when they were trying to bring Caserio in as GM is that he seems to make up his mind and then doesn’t mind holding out till end of time for that person to come available if that person wants to come here. Now I don’t like that he seems to makes up his mind without seeming to consider all options but desperate no I don’t think they will get that

So if they’re going to go in the exact opposite direction of what Cal proclaimed (GM then HC) then who is the GM that will NOT be hiring EB because it’s already decided? Just curious who your sauces are or if this is just your best throw it against the wall. I myself am not entirely sure EB would chose us over say Atlanta.......

There's a statement and there's an overstatement; last I checked the English Dictionary is very clear about that.
Did you guys just invent something new?

P.S. - You really need to reread corrosion's overstatements.
There are two of them.

...and let your playmakers do their thing.
Hopefully some playmakers will emerge. So far, our guys seem to be ok. But they haven't shown to be game changers. I don't think they all need to be Tyreek Hill, or Travis Kelce. But someone needs to be a little closer than what we've shown so far.

How in the heck is it that every other team can find a good RB that can make plays, but we stick with the same guys who do nothing year after year... Alfred Blue, how long was that guy on the roster. & we've been talking up Duke Johnson since he got here... nothing.

If Brandon Cooks can put together 10 more games like he did Sunday, this will be a heck of a season

Pats got caught once cheating and everybody says they have cheated since day one. Since Spygate I don't think it has been very easy for them to cheat. As far as deflate gate is concerned I never really counted that. After half time they played with the regulation air filled ball and they dominated the Colts. When they were supposed to have an advantage the score was close. As far as Spygate is concerned their title that season does not hold much weight for me either.

I've got a feeling that these receivers could surprise us this season now that Kelly/Watson will be fully engaged in putting in and executing the gameplan. Their sustained health thus far has been truly refreshing. If healthy, these receivers could give the Chiefs receivers a run for their money.

Fells and Aikens could do more and more damage if Kelly/Watson would continue to increase their workload within this new era offense. From a receiving standpoint, these guys could create mismatches much like Kelce if they were targeted in the same manner Kelce within the Chiefs offense.

It was nice to see David Johnson finish the game strong when the offense really needed him to burn the clock. I'd like to see the Texans find another back that could be truly tagged as RB1. Johnson&Johnson are essentially the same type of 3rd down back who -combined- are paid for too much for the same job. I wouldn't hesitate to get Le'Veon Bell in the building since he was cut by the Jets. A veterans minimum with some performance bonuses would probably get him in the door. I'd sure hate to miss out on an opportunity to sign him....much in the same way the Texans made no attempt at Leonard Fournette b/c of some potentially stupid relationship between the HC's. If OB had been better at hs job....Texans could be looking at a backfield of Fournette and Bell at a fraction of the cost (this season) of the 3rd down back tandem of Johnson&Johnson.

The OL might actually begin the process of growing together now that OB's predictability is out and a more creative attack is being implemented. The pieces are there and I truly hope there will be some flexibility in trying to move these pieces around until the best guys are playing.

Hope you are right but ultimately it is still the same playbook and the same players executing those plays. The big difference I hope helps is OB was reported to come in and change everything up on Friday after the team had practiced all week. Hopefully without that they can execute the plays better.

I would have loved to have signed Bell last time he was a free agent but the price was to high. Now even at the vet minimum he just isn't worth it. If we have any hope at all of going anywhere this season I'd say yeah kick the tires but realistically we are playing to screw the fins over. We are already going to have cap issues with some hard choices to be made so why spend more money on a season that is more or less shot anyway? Save the cash and either resign play makers already here, whoever those are, or bring in someone that isn't on the down hill slope.

Hell why not just wait till we have a new HC and see what kind of team they want before bringing anyone in. Could be that while a power back was perfect for OB the new coach has no use for one. This isn't the time to be kicking the tires on any player this is the time to be shopping to see if we want a car, truck or SUV and then once thats decided go kick some tires.

The OL might actually begin the process of growing together now that OB's predictability is out and a more creative attack is being implemented. The pieces are there and I truly hope there will be some flexibility in trying to move these pieces around until the best guys are playing.
Devlin is still here and still "coaching". I don't think any Oline can work as long as those two factors are against them.

Concur!!!! Why is everyone convienently forgetting that both the Yankees and Red Sox were caught stealing signs in the same season. Any team who says they're holier than thou are full of shite!!! They all try, they just didn't like the way the Astros did it. What I'd like to know.....which team would like to admit that they have been sooooo stupid in regards to not changing their signs between innings that the thought never crossed their minds? Please, let the Dodgers raise their hands......slowly watch MLB erupt in laughter.

If that is the case you have a point. That's what Patriots fans said about Spygate. I say it is only cheating if you get caught.
Some would say that if your not cheating you are not trying hard enough.

“Cheating” is trying to get an edge without breaking the rules. Just like steroids though, if everyone is doing it you may need to as well. It doesn’t make it right, but at least you will have a job.

Astros got the book thrown at them because no one cares about Houston except Houstonians. It is easy to make us the villain.

Had it been New York it would have been more of a non-issue, don’t look here, everyone is doing it, and rules made to prevent it going forward. Same with Boston.

And that’s why there wasn’t a deep investigation into Boston and what they did.
