Watson’s a top 5 qb. Do you agree?

lmfao I almost spit out my drink. You hedged your bets today against a terrible team.

Watson can grasp any system, as long as the system isn't putting his team in a terrible position.

We had more guys in the middle of the field, creating windows with in and out route combos instead of flooding the sidelines, we ran more plays under C today than we have all season...combined, we used the strength of this offense to make things happen. All of this was lacking and it had nothing to do with Watson being too dumb or incapable. His coach finally realized his system was a dud.
I didn't get to see the game today. I'm visiting my son in Connecticut.

There were receivers open in the middle of the field last game too and the Charges game too. Sometimes Watson sees them, sometime s he doesn't. It's a learning curve that isn't going to be sped up, whether you want to admit this or not.

I'm hoping he learns, because it will be much more fun out at NRG when he does

I watch the all-22 footage every week. I know what I see. The routes and positioning are trash. Today was different. The 2nd half of the Chargers game was different.

When OB simplifies things for EVERYONE (Wrs and Tes and Rbs and OL and QB) we play better. It has nothing to do with Watson not having good footwork, or not being smart enough to run the EP system, or any other trash comments. The system they run is flawed and not working. It creates inconsistency because it relies on too many people making individual decisions while relying on them to be perfect.

Sure, Watson missed some throws last week vs Carolina, but it doesn't negate the system being bad. We shouldn't have to rely on Watson being perfect every single week. Sometimes QBs will have off games.
Honest question, did the offense look similar to the one they ran the 1st 7 games? If so, what happened today really doesn't surprise me. BOB finally ran the offense Watson is most comfortable in.

Missing 3 long plays last week is hardly expecting Watson to be perfect.

It was 2 and I have watched Aaron Rogers miss 2 so far in today's game vs Dallas. It happens. You cannot expect him to nail every throw every game.

They ran a pro style offense with good route combos. It was that simple

You listen to him in that video and after last week's loss break down the defenses and then you read a post from a poster who struggles with attachments on an internet forum smear him by calling him stupid is just out of bounds.
The learning curve/timeline hasn't changed, despite my lack of technology knowledge.

Continue on.

It was 3 plays/2 missed TD's.

The difference is Watson looked at the middle of the field this week apparently if OB didn't change up the offense. It's open every week. Against the Chargers and apparently today he used the entire field.

Honestly it was the now 1-4 falcons. He looked good. Made good throws. Some guys wide open. It was a get right game with no pressure literally. No sacks and in control.

This game played into Houston hands.

Wait, wait wait wait. Too stupid for O'Brien's offense, except ...

There are levels. This comment achieved a new one. Especially with the benefit of not being able to watch the game.

I mean, just ... wow lol. Not sure if I'm looking forward to the 100 posts that will come this week, or if I should be afraid that my brain will explode.
I called this BEFORE the game. I didn't need to watch it .

Can't put the bottle down, I'm trying to get prepared for your next 247 posts this week about how bad everyone but O'Brien is and how our moron accidentally had success in his epic system. With a token disagreeing post of course.

This was a magnificent day going in the right direction against an absolutely trash defense.

Hopefully it's the first step towards consistency.

Now on to KC.
I understand KC's defense isn't all that against the pass either.

Fact is as Watson goes so goes this team. If he's off, the Texans suck. If he's hot, they can be unstoppable.

Right, they're not great but not terrible either. Middle of the pack so far.

And ya to the last part. We've got 3 games to 2 now to show for it.

It's ok that mahomes is the sh1t fellas. Last year he was the sh1t and brady got him. Admitting mahomes is a bad ass isnt turning your back of Watson. Brady will beat Watson too
I think mahomes is great. Does anyone not think that?

Watson obviously had issues operating our offense against Carolina. Their front four, zone coverage & blitz packages presented a challenge to DW4 that he didn't figure out through 4 qtrs.
So you agree with steelb that it wasn't a stupid system that couldn't reasonably be adjusted to handle the Carolina defense, if was our stupid QB. Maybe our GM will make you guys happy and trade DW4 for Hoyer.

Can you imagine if Watson was "smart enough" to run O'Brien's vaunted EP offense how much better he would be:

@PatDstat:
Deshaun Watson recorded his third career game with five-or-more touchdown passes and no interceptions, which makes him the fastest player in NFL history to record three games with five touchdown passes and no interceptions (28 games). The next fastest player to record three-or-more games with five touchdown passes and no interceptions was Peyton Manning, who accomplished the feat in his 99th career game.

I've been saying since last season Watson is not seeing the field, before or after the snap. I've been questioning his ability to see the field & communicate what he sees to his team at the LOS. Something is not right.

This is year three. What happens after the snap has much more to do with Watson than O'Brien, or at least it should.

That doesn't mean I think he is too stupid & I don't think steelbtexan thinks he is stupid, but the way folks reacted to steelbtexan's comments, I can see why he wouldn't correct them. Bottom line, Watson has more effect on the offense we see on Sunday than O'Brien.

Y’all can give it up right now if any of you have a problem with him running around in the backfield. Take that away from him and the dude would probably hang up his cleats. The game wouldn’t be any fun to him anymore. Just look at his facial expression after his runs. Hes happier than a pig in sh!t even when he gets sacked. Ain’t nothing that O’Brien, we, or anyone else is going to change him.

And to answer the question. YES!!!!! He has what it takes to get us to the Super Bowl.

Then OB's job is to keep him in an offensive system that keeps him hot.....problem solved. This had all the appearances of Watson's 8th game of his rookie season. Damn, even the play calling was similar. The biggest difference.....there was a better OL protecting him and more weapons to choose from.

Is that why Billy Butts was so ornery during the post game presser? Anyone have an idea of what that was all about? I havent seen it yet, but hearing commentary on it just sounds strange he would be in a bad mood after such a good win.

I don't think he was in a bad mood, people just thought he should be doing cartwheels. His theme was just trying to get better every week and be ready end of year when it really counts. Head coaches unless you are in Seattle just are not giddy as they know you are never as good or bad as your last performance and he may have seen some Chief tape too

“It’s silly to think he’s top 5”. It’s not a debate anymore when you have other fans from around the league that believes so. You make a realistic positive opinion on your qb and youre called a homer right away. Anyway, I rather not say anything. People get sensitive and Deshaun will ball out regardless.
Speak your mind brother. You shouldn’t be here if you’re overly sensitive. He’s had one really good game against a bad defense. Marcus mariota had a 129 rating and three TDS against Atlanta. Look no one is saying Watson sucks. He is our franchise and he has as much potential as any young QB in the league. That doesn’t make him top 5, yet. I believe he will be top three if OB gets his head out of his ass and let’s some else call plays. Watson still needs to work on recognizing blitzes and throwing the deep ball. Hopefully this cakewalk against Atlanta opened his eyes about getting the ball out faster. If so this could be where he makes that leap.

Did OB call the plays yesterday? He didn’t have his menu all day.
Both of them have had the "menus" during games........O'Brien and Kelly communicate with each other re building the game plan via microphone during games on certain open channels, but O'Brien calls in plays to Watson via microphone on a designated channel which is limited in times.
You can follow some of the rest of the discussion around these posts.

I have to think he didn't want to admit whatever the problem was or how it got fixed, or that Atlanta's lack of a pass rush & struggling secondary had more to do with our success yesterday.

That whatever our problems were, they're still there & he doesn't know how to fix it.

Yep. I agree completely. #4 is really the only reason I have any positive thoughts about the future of this team. We spent so many years watching bad & mediocre QBs that it blows my mind that we are not collectively celebrating the fact that we finally have an elite talent at QB.

Deshaun is this franchise's future. Obviously it's a team game so all the pieces need to be in place, but he's never going to quit during a game and he truly believes he has a chance until 0:00 is on the board. We haven't had a QB like that in this city since. . .ever.

He seemed to be in a decent mood in the postgame interview with channel 13's "Inside the Game". He's never jubilant. He was happy with the game, but was already looking forward to dissecting the film and game plan for KC.

The biggest difference was Watson getting rid of the ball quickly.

The stats were posted in another thread ….
