I have to echo @Mollywhopper about Jimbo. He’s done a great job with the program, and I will always appreciate that, but this constant butting of heads has got to end. We lost 3 commitments last night and it’s only going to get worse as long as there is no clarity. I’m ready to move on. That probably sounds like a spoiled fan, but I’d love to keep him if a) he was committed, and b) he would take a serious look at firing some of his assistants. What isn’t being talked about in the national media is that almost all of the good assistants at FSU have moved on to bigger jobs over the years and the only coaches left are the coaches nobody else wants to hire. Jimbo has never fired an assistant at FSU. The defensive coordinator is terrible and the offensive line coach is mediocre at best. I think Jimbo wants full control, which he essentially has, but I believe he has been pressured to make changes and he doesn’t like that. I think that’s been going on for 2 years now. He’s being stubborn. I keep hearing about facilities, but it’s been reported many times that FSU is committed to a football only, state of the art facility, but location and land acquisition has been the primary reason for its delay, not an unwillingness by FSU.
The way in which Jimbo is handling his exit has not been gracious. I believe he is knowingly sticking it to FSU to an extent. It’s been reported that recruits haven’t been contacted for over a month. He’s not even been selling the university out of respect, he just quit on that front. FSU can’t fire him either, he negotiated a buyout that prevents that.
Interesting tidbit here is that there is a rumor that he and A&M have been negotiating since September, which would partially explain the poor year, although I am sure the year was always going to be a down year regardless.
I’m not sure why FSU isn’t doing background work on Venables at Clemson. Perhaps they want someone with HC experience, but I’d still like to see them take a look.

Agreed that any decent AD should be doing all the homework he can on Venables, the guy's been terrific. But he's got a son joining the Tigers next season and another son who was just offered by Clemson as well. He also seems fiercely loyal and patient enough to not be lured so easily. Just saying, don't think he's coming unmoored anytime soon.
What so you think of the three names being floated/vetted as of now ... Taggert, Strong, and Fuente? I'd be thrilled with Fuente, good with Taggert, and cautiously optimistic with Strong.
If I were A&M this is something that would bother me. To spend all that money getting him here and giving him full control and let him bring all "his" coaches could end up a bad deal that they get stuck with for a long time. I don't mind a coach who has loyalty to his assistants but he has to know when it's time to "cut bait" if an assistant is not doing a good job. JMO.
What's up with Tennessee? Why are they having a hard time getting a coach? I would think they have top notch football facilities and their stadium holds a hundred thousand give or take. I know they have been recruiting well the last few years so I don't think the "cupboards" are bare. So what's the problem? Is it $$$$?
As someone who has been through it, you FSU guys do not want Strong. I was all about him. He's a great guy. Like a truly great guy, unlike most college coaches. And he knows defense. But he is not detail-oriented at all and cannot handle all the multiple tasks that come with a job of that caliber. The things I've heard about him and his staff since he left Texas are embarrassing to a level that cannot possibly be defended.
Kinda the vibe I've gotten. Why I don't have him high up the list. Really easy to root for, very good at some important things, just don't have a ton of confidence in his ability to manage a top-tier pressure cooker program.
And so looks now like Mike Leach to Tennessee. May not be a world-beater, but all things considered..
F*ck him. Come on Fuente or Taggart.
Nonetheless, updated..

Didn't know you were an FSU fan. It's been a nice few decades of uninterrupted coaching. I wonder how y'all will fare without it.
Fisher just stepped down as FSU HC, to accept A&M job by Monday
Well that ended on a sour note for Fisher at FSU but, then again, this kind of thing usually does!
I still don't know if this is the right hire for A&M and I wonder how it will affect next years recruiting class as well as future classes. I know FSU lost some recruits in the last few days with all the speculation going on with Fisher but I haven't heard anything about A&M's recruit's since Sumlin was let go. Does anyone think this will help A&M's recruiting, or hurt it?
You know, I don’t know if it’ll be a good hire either. My gut says it will, because he can change a program pretty quickly and he is one hell of a recruiter. He’s had some good assistants in the past, so he may (probably will) hire an initial staff that will be stellar. I bet they’ll be good pretty quickly. The only question is whether or not he has learned from his mistakes at FSU, and it’s very possible that he has.

Changing a program quickly is one thing, long term success is another! Sumlin changed the program at A&M quickly (11-2 first year) on the backs of Sherman's recruits, and then it fell into mediocrity (8 wins after) with mostly his recruits. Will Fisher do the same? Also, do you think Fisher will retain any of Sumlin's staff or clean house? Will he bring some with him from FSU? Lots of questions that only time will tell!

The State of Texas should seriously look at helping Houston gain an invite into the Big 12 (10). If not, I'd be all for a new and improved Southwest Conference. They have the viewership capability to compete with any conference if they field a good product. Might have a better chance of keeping that locally developed HS talent in state.
The biggest key, convince Texas A&M to come back home and compete in state. The next pivotal piece could be Oklahoma State and the deep pockets of Pickens. A&M has got to see the writing on the wall well enough to know that they're never going to compete with Alabama as long as Sabah is on the scene.
Their strategy would have to be the development of the first Super Conference...16 teams. The BIG 10...12 could do this by taking a proactive stance.
2 or 4 Divisions, what would y'all prefer? I'd like to think that 4 divisions would create a more exciting and lucrative Playoff scenario.
How could the divisions be set?
North
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Kansas
South
Texas A&M
Texas
TCU
SMU
East
Baylor
Houston
West Virginia
Arkansas
West
Texas Tech
BYU
Boise State
San Diego State
So this layout covers, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, West Virginia, Utah, Idaho and California. That would be fairly nice coverage geographically.
I think this would be favorable to A&M and Arkansas since they would be in a Conference where their chances of winning and recruiting go up expedentiously versus competing with the teams within the SEC. Some of the schools have smaller stadiums but they could catch up in due time. All 4 time zones are represented and if this Super Conference was established, I don't think Network coverage will be an issue.
I just wish the BIG10(12) officials would get around to seeing the bigger picture.
Lol A&M will never, ever, ever come back to a Texas based league. I'll eat a sock if that happens in the next twenty years.

And A&M will never see an NCAA CFB Championship unless they somehow convince Saban to leave Alabama. That's some tough reality.
A&M still butthurt over not joining in with UT in the LHN?
# Little Brother inferiority complex.
The same Longhorn network that had 24 hour video coverage of a cow because there's nothing else to air?

Counting those $$$$
Still appear butthurt
Close SEC championship game. Georgia might be able to pull it out.

I'd tell you to fire up the UT education and report back, but something tells me that fandom is bought at Wal-mart.
Lol

If they do, I really hope Wiscy takes care of business because I don't want the whole "2-loss Ohio State vs. 1 loss Bama, who gets in" shitshow that will inevitably happen.
Do you understand why A&M left the Big 12 along with Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri? If you did you would know why they will never come back as long as UT will not revenue share equally among the schools. It's not advantageous money wise for A&M, or any of the other schools that left, to come back. Eventually, Saban will leave (He's 66 yrs old) and then it should get back to a more balanced division in the SEC West.
Did I miss something? When did UT say they would share the revenue from the LHN with the other schools in the Big 12?
Remind me, is Saban immortal?
We aren't leaving the SEC. It's made us the richest athletics department in the country, gross and net income.

Well, if the move did that much for A&M....close your eyes and imagine what a National Championship and a number one rated recruiting class could do for the school....hell, maybe even more than one.
Texas wanted to do a joint network with A&M. A&M didn't want in. Didn't think it would be profitable. Texas made bank and then A&M threw a tantrum.
The entire conference signed off on the LHN. Nobody else wanted to do the legwork to get one started up. And then when it got picked up by ESPN it was all of a sudden unfair even though everybody else had the same opportunity but declined.
I just don't see how you put Ohio State in over Bama
I guess we will see what happens.
Lol try again. Nebraska and A&M were a big reason why the conference had unequal revenue sharing. They voted for it when the conference was created. Hell, if the vote had failed A&M wasn't going to join at all.
A&M fits better in the SEC culturally. They've been trying to get into the SEC since before the Big XII was even formed. They finally got an invite. They took it. Good for them. It's a good fit. It has nothing to do with UT. The simpleminded contingent of A&M's fan base just can't move on.
