What moves would you make to right this mess?

Not sure if there are moves that could fix our problems but I think there are some that are necessary at least in the short term.

In no particular order!

1.) Bring Riley McCarron up off the practice squad. It seemed like him and Watson had a real connection during the preseason. Miller has shown NOTHING! Put Riley in the slot and see if they can continue to build chemistry.

2.) Sign free agent TE Gary barnidge. I know he's older but sick of these TEs that can't do anything with the ball after the catch other than get hurt. Doesn't have to be a long term deal.

2.) Sign free agent Nick Mangold. Either he or Martin can play guard. Hell put mancz back at center and play Martin and Mangold at guard.

3.) Guarantee the next two years to Brown and get him back on the field.

4.) Start Foreman and run him alot.

5.) Play Procsh! Let's line up in the I and pound the ball with Foreman with a lead blocker. This will hopefully bring the defense up closer to the LOS and allow play action roll out with a mobile Watson to be more successful. It should also allow for more one on ones with Strong and Hopkins and even allow Barnidge to slip past the defense occasionally for a long play down the middle.

No none of these are long term solutions, but this is a better plan than having Watson sitting in the pocket trying to read the defenses and make plays.

I'm sure others here have better ideas so let's hear them. It's not like we have anything better to talk about.

First thing's first, are you Rick Smith? If so, GO F*CK YOURSELF YOU PRICK! We ain't doing your job for you. You should be fired and publicly executed.

If you are not Rick Smith, I apologize.

I don't see any moves that will right this mess because this mess wasn't created by the players. It was created by poor coaching and **** management.

Until those get fixed then swapping personnel is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Doesn't matter what moves you're making the ship is still going down.

I buy every bit of it. Basic idea: Do SOMETHING for God's sakes. Don't just sit there and wait for it to get better on its own.

Let's go get Harbaugh, and do whatever it takes to get Wolf in NRG as our GM. But, sadly something like this will never happen since Rick Smith is kind with the McNairs and Bob believes everything that retard says. We're screwed! Cal looks like a weak slob with no back bone, so don't expect any better even after Bob's demise.

In no particular order, I think getting more drunk than I already am or getting more stoned than I already am is a good start. Either works for me at this point.

The people in charge now are worthless. Until the people in charge now are gone, the Texans are worthless.

Stay committed to the run game early and often. Need a healthy dose of Foreman with Miller sprinkled in. Jags showed what a commitment to the run game can do to a "fearsome" front 7. Watson needs to only throw the ball 20 times max. Stay on schedule run run run.

JMO establish the run to check

I like it .... but first things first , Tricky Rick has to go and so does OB , don't want him screwing up Watson. Promote RAC to HC .... Don't even need an OC with this offensive plan!?

Had no idea Mangold was a free agent. Doc I don't care if he's injured , he's better than any of these clowns playing on one leg .... That solves two spots when you put Mancz back at C and play Martin & Mangold at guard , getting Brown back is 4 of the 5 spots with a decent quality player - Still got nothin at RT but maybe you can hide him if everything else is fixed.

I like the idea of lining up in the I and running it time after time ..... and mixing in the occasional play action / bootleg. Hell I said something like this last week .... in one of the Jaqs threads. Run it 50 times .... then run it 50 more.

Ordinarily I'd dismiss these as desperation moves. But we've reached desperation, so they're actually credible.

1. Sign Weeden so we can have a worthless QB to get killed instead of Watson
2. Trade Miller, KJax, and Brown for middling picks or decent/good OL
3. Let Weeden take the thumps while we develop a new OL that is not complete garbage

One yr fix I don't want to bring in DB but I would, here goes

I sign Mangold and Brian Schwenke and Victor Salako then bring in Max McCaffery to play the slot and Hamilton to play WR position. They also need another TE and I would bring in Gavin Escobar until the TE's got healthy.

If his neck is OK I would bring in Aaron Williams.

I cut Allen/XSF and Lamm.

IR Fido and one of the Safeties.

I'd call up Bayliss, McCarron, Q, Slade and Thompson right away

If Brown comes back maybe not Q

<<<See my new avatar, just hired him as my new Vice President of Football Operations & General Manager. So now I'm off to the Caribbean to spend the Fall and Winter on the yacht.
What makes you think he would be a good vice president of football operations?

Man how can we come up with anything when you've stated all of the already.

I would run more two back formation. Sometimes having both Miller and Foreman back there.

Implement more screen plays for the RB, WR and TE'S.

I noticed last night the read options would've been beneficial if coach allows to take off. So every so often to keep the defense guessing, throw a few read options in the mix.

If we are not going to use B. Miller properly then like you said bring up McCarron. He is a natural receiver who I believe would excel in the slot.

They have to find some monsters for that offensive line. Man I never seen so many of these big fellas getting completely knocked off of their feet so often.

Until Fuller comes back please find a reciever who can take top off. We are so one dimensional right now.

I agree with a lot of what mussop suggested, though I don't know Mangold's or Barnidge's injury status. My additional suggestion would be to bring in Dorial Green-Beckham. Yes, there are very good reasons he is not currently in the NFL. But there are also good reasons for the Texans to take a look at him. He has produced in this league. And the Texans only have 1 WR on the roster that can say that. It's break glass in case of emergency time, and I think they should at least give the guy a tryout.

Of course it's also possible Green-Beckham might be facing a drug suspension as soon as he is signed for all I know. Just think it's a tough situation to have this receiving corps with a rookie QB.

What makes you think he would be a good vice president of football operations?

Have to agree with Texian on this one. Manning may be an inexperienced executive, but he knows what talent looks like and does not accept mediocrity.

In my opinion he would be a very promising GM candidate and would be a huge draw for talented free agents. Again...just my opinion.

However, would he even consider working for the Texans...

1. Born into the NFL
2. He's 41 and basically pro football has been a part of his daily life for the last 40 years.
3. Highly intelligent
4. Upbringing, education, character
5. Meticulous and ALWAYS WELL PREPARED!
6. Has a Speech Communication degree, why communicates so well, better than most.
7. Perfectionist, did you see how he took Brad Paisley to a new level?

and what better credentials for a VP & GM.

None of those show he can scout talent and know how to manage the salary cap with contracts. There is a big difference between smart and talented on a football field and translating that to the front office.

If he was mentored like Lynch has been, let me know.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Peyton knows talented football players better than most.

I lost a lot of respect for O'Brien the way he handled the QB situation. I guess he didn't learn anything from the Mallet fiasco. It looks like Watson has what it takes to develop into a Franchise QB, but it's my opinion that Savage is going to be a great QB also when he finally gets to join a team that wants him. So, if they're not going to play him, then bring back Weedon & trade Savage for as high a draft pick as you can get. I wonder if Cleveland would give us our 1st round pick back for him? Lol

All GM's have a team of "Capologists" that handle long term cap planning, and IIRC, Manning might not have done any actual scouting, but he was very involved in personnel at Indy (Maybe in Denver too, but not sure).

Lynch would have also been a great GM candidate for the Texas (but we wont be able to pry him from SF). Wolf would be too. IMO Manning would have a steeper learning curve, but has very high intelligence (not just football intelligence) and a drive for perfection. Id be happy with either of these three.

Whatever floats your boat. You can have Ricky, I'll take Peyton.

Now you're just putting words in my mouth. I never said i wanted Rick. Which is why i would go with someone with actual experience than someone that needs OTJ training.

If you wanted someone with promise and has been brought up around football you would go with Elliot Wolf.

But I realize you are a fan boy and have a man crush on Peyton and can't see how this could go wrong. It's ok.

Unfortunately the dream is only a pipe dream. Manning will never be the Texans GM.
Yes I know this but this is a message board. Also doesn't mean I have to accept and agree with the Cogen Boardroom on Kirby. Manning has a better chance of becoming VP & GM before that happens. And you never know McNair may wake up one day and come to his senses and be able to check his ego at the door.

I'm not sure you could be more wrong. I do believe that I was first to promote Eliot Wolf to be the Texans GM. I also know that Wolf is not going anywhere where he won't have the accountability and responsibly that he will have in Green Bay one day. I said the same about Eric DeCosta. Manning on the hand is a free agent and 5 Star GM in waiting. It took Elway and Lynch less than season to excel on the job. No reason why Peyton can't do the same. Peyton may even prove to be the better GM than Eliot. I think you're underestimating Peyton's abilities and knowledge of being a VP/GM in the NFL. I'd venture to say you have absolutely no idea of what Peyton's 40 years of being exposed to the NFL brings to the table and what it it doesn't.

Oh BTW check my sig, been that way for quite awhile. At one time had a picture of Eliot Wolf as my avatar.

Bill Polian is available

I think It's more likely for Manning to become the Texan's new GM than McNair doing any of that. Rick Smith will be GM for as long as Bob, and maybe even Cal is breathing.

I don't read all your posts nor remember everything that was written or keep track of who was first. If you were, then here is a golf clap. I don't have sigs activated because i try not to take in too many useless details.

Lynch had been mentored by Elway prior to joining San Fran. Elway had experience with the Crush, and was mentored by the existing GM of Denver when coming on board. Peyton still needs to do this. Elway, with all his experience asked Bowlen for this before coming on board.

Peyton is a pipe dream because he will go back to Indy, NOLA, or somewhere else. Not here.

I may be under estimating Peyton with his great up bringing and 40 years of experience around the NFL, but running the FO is vastly different than running an offense.

Doubtful he would entertain going and working for Jim Irsay.

I'm not really interested in Manning, though.
