The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Dallas selects WR Kenny Golladay Northern Illinois.
Slightly built at 6'4" and only 218 lbs but owns a 4:50 40 and had 1,153 yds and 10 TD's.
Great value this low down the board.

With the 229th pick in the 7th Round, the New Orleans Saints select

Kyle Kalis, GUARD, Michigan
upload_2017-4-18_9-18-47.png

Four-year letterman; Has appeared in 50 games, making 43 starts at right guard
AFCA All-America second team honoree as a senior (2016)
2015 All-Big Ten third team (media) and All-Big Ten Honorable Mention

Philadelphia Eagles Select-

Jonnu Smith TE/FB, Florida International, 6-3 248. Not kidding when people say this is above average TE class, really wasn't expecting to address position this late but his measureables scream NFL success along with high production. Brent Celek is back for his 11th season but maybe his last. Look for Smith to earn duties on special teams and blocker, possibly move to FB position? Would get plenty of chances as outlet from Wentz as a move TE as well. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/jonnu-smith?id=2558207

At pick #231, Arizona selects:

Ezra Robinson - CB, Tennessee State

@Max and the Vikings are on the clock with pick# 232

There are teams that have worse O-line problems than the Texans and the Vikes are near the top of that list needing depth and developmental players everywhere. They go with the latter with their final pick of the 2017 draft and pick their 3rd offensive lineman in the draft.

Vikings select Jerry Ugokwe, OT

ugokwe.jpg

6’7” 321lbs NFL.com’s bottom line: Didn’t pick up the sport until his junior year of high school but has shown rapid growth over the last three years. While there is a lack of consistency in his technique at this time, he has the traits and potential that should provide offensive line coaches with enough ammo to correct his issues. If he can play with more consistent bend and a wider base, he has interesting developmental potential, but he will likely require a patient approach.

@Texan4Ever- 7 (233) Carolina –on the clock

Next 5 on deck:
7 (234) LA Rams - @steelbtexan -
7 (235) Washington - @Lucky -
7 (236) Tennessee - @mussop -
7 (237) Tampa Bay - @steelbtexan -
7 (238) Denver - @infantrycak -

Vikings finish up their draft with the following picks:

2.16 Dion Dawkins, OG
3.15 Larry Ogunjobi, DT
3.22 Duke Riley, OLB
4.13 Tyler Orlosky, C
4.21 Brad Kaaya, QB
5.16 Lorenzo Jerome, SS
6.15 Isaiah McKenzie, WR
7.14 Jerry Ugokwe, OT

Their fans want Joe Mixon to replace AD, but the organization isn't about to replace one troubled Sooner RB with another. They picked up Latavius Murray in FA and have a relatively untested 2014 3rd round pick (Jerick McKinnon) that they're likely to rotate to fill the void. With their O-Line issues potentially resolved in FA and the draft -- they're likely closer than the Texans to being a contender this year with an established QB and one of the league's better defenses. This is a team to watch for this year.

With the 234th pick in the TT Mock Draft the Los Angeles Rams select Chad Williams WR Grambling.

Giving Goff more weapons. Can't go wrong with a WR that's 6"1 with over a 40 inch vertical and runs under a 4.4 in the 7th rd

Good pick! Seems to have turned it around, has good hands, and isn't easy to bring down after the catch.

With the 237th pick in the TT Mock Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Xavier Woods, Safety, Louisiana Tech.

This guy has great range and ball skills. His ability to play single high Safety rivals anybody in this draft not Named Hooker/Tedric Thompson. A real steal this late in the draft.

Tennessee selects Austin Carr wide receiver Northwestern

Really like this guy and think he will have a productive career. Great hands and very good getting in and out of his breaks. Knows how to set up a CB. He really impressed me last yr. A very heady WR.

Man this draft may be lacking in star power but there's some very talented guys that will be UDFA's that will make NFL Rosters.

A real steal alright. You'd be stealing him from me (pick#198)

With pick # 198, San Francisco selects:

Xavier Woods - S, Louisiana Tech

Love this guy as a player. Write up later.

Did it take this long last year?

It usually takes about 3-4 weeks to finish this mock draft. Thanks to Lucky/Bah/WF this draft has moved along really smoothly. Luckily rmartin65 and @jradMIT were willing to make picks for those that committed to doing this and backed out with no warning.

Yep, we need to finish this week. Next week it will be all Texans draft, all the time.

Good pick, he deserves to be drafted.

Denver's pick @238 is a group pick and available for nominations.

Has Oklahoma DT Charles Walker been picked yet, if not he would be my pick. If he has been picked LB Ritchie Brown, Miss St. would be my pick.

Neither has been picked. Walker is probably the highest rated player on the board. He quit on his team, so it's reasonable he would last this long. Walker also has concussion issues. But, he'll get drafted, so may as well be here. I second.

I think mussop's idea of set times is a good idea for next year. If you know before the draft what time you're expected to be online, it should make it easier. And for Mel Kipers sake, send a list if you can't make it.

I think that would require a lot more from the drafter. You'd have to have a pretty large list to go from. I'm not against it by any means, but I do think it would limit the amount of people participating. At the same time, maybe that's the only way to do this thing without relying on a handful of people to keep it afloat.

Not an encompassing list from the get go, but have a list for your upcoming selection. That shouldn't be too much to ask.

It just needs to keep rolling along.
All you needs for this is for a handful of posters to agree on a pick in the absense of a vote just like has been happening.
That way we avoid the fiasco of the first round in this draft having one absentee vote holding up proceedings over a whole weekend.

Giants select OT Avery Gennesy Texas A&M

OVERVIEW
A&M has become a place that scouts look for offensive linemen, as the Aggies have produced first-round picks on the line in the past four drafts. Whether or not Gennesy is selected that high, league coaches believed he played well enough at the left tackle spot in 2016 to earn first-team All-SEC honors. He originally planned to go to Arkansas State out of high school, but failed to qualify academically. After two years at East Mississippi Community College (where he won a national title), Gennesy spent a redshirt year in College Station. Once a starting spot at left tackle opened up in 2015, he stepped up to start every game at that spot.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Has lateral agility and desire to get to difficult reach blocks in zone game. Rapid responder out of snap. Shoots out on top of defensive ends with quick sets and hustles to swing his hips into position to wall off three-techniques on gap plays. Able to torque his hips and widen defenders off the edge. Moves well in space with desired body control on all levels. Can pull effectively. Choppy, controlled kick slide. Able to gain enough ground against most edge speed. Feet and balance help mirror effectively and can redirect back inside. Latches onto defenders with strong hands. Has length and athletic ability for adequate recovery when beaten. Aware and alert. Senses twists coming and understands how to handle them.
WEAKNESSES
High-cut with long waist and stiffness in his hips. Not a natural bender. Too tall into pass sets, allowing bull-rushers a viable attack point under his pads. Fears speed-to-power rushers and leans into engagements in order to supplement his anchor. Rarely asked to generate push at point of attack as base blocker and might lack leverage to do it on pro level. Hands prefer to gather and grab rather than punch. Average block finisher. Wide hands might be muscle-memory issue that is difficult to correct. At the top of the rush arc, will push and muscle rushers rather than continuing to slide feet to cut off the angle. Edges a little soft and could struggle to find redirect strength.
SOURCES TELL US
"He's unique because he's athletic and has great feet, but his hips are stiff. He's not strong enough to play guard and his anchor could get quarterbacks hit too much." -- Scout with AFC North team
NFL COMPARISON
Marshall Newhouse
BOTTOM LINE
Former junior college transfer who displayed the athleticism that allowed Texas A&M to keep Germain Ifedi at right tackle in 2015. Foot quickness could make him a target of teams who ask more from their tackles in the run game, but his lack of bend could create consistent issues against bull-rushers. While teams could try him at guard, he will likely stay outside at tackle and compete as a swing tackle right away.

What we need to do is get 16 members to each take 2 teams each. There are enough members to do this and the draft will move along much more quickly. We should look back and see who got their picks in on time and invite them.

Via PM, @banned1976 and the Raiders select at pick# 242:

DeAngelo Brown - DT, Louisville

The Texans final selection at pick# 243 is up for nomination.
