My thoughts on the inner works of the Texans are we know jack diddly on them 99% of the time.
'My boy Kubes' won a SB so that is basically FU.

I think the simple solution to all of this is having McNair give Bill a come to Jesus like he did with Kubes where he insists on bringing in a competent O coordinator. O'Brien is an excellent head coach. He's pulled chicken salad out of chicken crap for three years. He can't manage an offense though and his boy Godsey is a joke. With a REAL O coordinator, this team is elite. I know bashing Smith is popular, but the Texans are rich with Talent. Godsey (and BOB) don't know how to utilize them. They need to get off of scheme and use what they have for what they do best. Case in point, running Miller off tackle 70% of the time. He's an edge guy. Use it. Duh. And, while I know it might be sacrilege to say it, let Brock go a bit. He's so friggin handcuffed that he's scared. The guy has more Favre in him than he does Brady. Take the damn training wheels off and let the guy ball. He might surprise all of us. His mechanics suck, but I see a guy that is more afraid of screwing up on the 1 out of 10 chances he gets than a guy that doesn't have the skills to get it done. Turn it loose. If he fails, he fails, but his failures this year had as much to do with play calling as they did with his ability. They played him like they were afraid he would screw up. No wonder he looks scared most of the time.

O'Brien and Smith wanted Osweiler. They knew it would be too costly to try to move up in the draft, so they targeted Osweiler in free agency. McNair signed off on it. Anything else you read or hear is a myth perpetuated by media clueless to how McNair operates.
You would think McNair has been in business long enough forpeople to have a clue, but obviously, some don't.
My thoughts parallel this from CnD's article:
The Texans, or any other team for that matter, don't disclose much of their inner workings.
I don't have your uncontrollable urge to ascribe fault and turn that into loathing backed by supposition. That's your gig free and clear. Sorry if not joining your crystal ball hate club isn't man enough 'to put on the record.'
Let Bob draft HIS quarterback in the first round and go into camp in a 3 way battle for the job.
Everyone wins.
So me thinking Bob McNair told Ricky McNair to get him a QB and Ricky picked Os with very little say according to media reports = hate in your mind. Gotcha, but this is rather simple, I believe a well respected reporter like Glzer/Silver and you don't. Even though it's their job to search down sources and report about things like this. In your mind they're just making things up. Even though their track record doesn't suggest that they do this. Why? Because the local media has trained you to think this way. Guys like Pancakes should be reporting stories like this. But he's to busy being a movie critic and brown nosing the Texans org rather than you know actually working and doing his job.
Mahomes or Josh Allen (If he comes out) would be my picks.
Local media hasn't taught me anything. I believe the Texans run exactly as McNair has described - GM and HC argue their way to a consensus and only in the rare event they can't come to a conclusion does he step in.
Rare? This is where we disagree (Again)
Of course at one time you thought McNair was a hands off owner, which has proven to be false. (There's nothing wrong with being wrong)

The most logical source of any BoB/RSmith friction would seem to be Brock. W/ the perceived interest in BoB by other teams if he were to leave, it seems like McNair has moved into BoB's corner in any power contest w/ RSmith to whatever extent it existed. If nothing else, this perceived flirtation w/ leaving should buy BoB the freedom to bench Brock next year at BoB's whim and/or draft the qb of his liking vs feeling obligated to play Brock.
It appeared that McNair backed O'b benching Brock this time. Winning that game helped. McNair openly admitted as much.
Naming Savage the starter the following game, as early as he did, leads me to believe at least McNair was backing the play. I.e. there's nothing to suggest discord in the organization surrounding Osweiler's benching except the timing of the rumors. & the timing of Savage's concussion.
The thing is Glazer & Silver never said Osweiler was shoved down O'Brian's throat. They said there was friction between Smith & O'b. They said that rift could be because of Osweiler... not that it was.
You took that to mean it was factual. For all we know Rick was probably telling O'b to bench Osweiler earlier, make him earn the starting job, but O'b didn't like the timing for one reason or another.
The rift might have been because O'b wanted to keep Charles James all along & Rick told him James couldn't cover any one over 5'8" & held it over his head all year long... for all we know, O'Brien has wanted Rick's parking spot the last 3 years.
There hasn't been one factual report that this had anything to do with Osweiler, but you took a "may be because of..." & ran with it.
Everything came out after Os was benched. We're all guessing but it seems like Os being the source of the friction is as good a guess as any. Even if you're correct that there's nothing to Os being the source of friction, it seems like the upshot of the mess is BoB gained leverage. Leverage concerning his next job or his role w/in the organization remains to be seen.It appeared that McNair backed O'b benching Brock this time. Winning that game helped. McNair openly admitted as much.

I'm with cak... we don't know jack sh*t what goes on in the FO. We don't know, media doesn't know. The media is driven by clicks nowadays, so throwing out outrageous claims, and passing off rumor as facts, takes precedence over giving accurate facts.
BTW, this is an alternative situation I could easily pass of as fact. Mcnair/Rick gave BOB his pick of QBs in season 1. BOB chose Fitz. They still gave him 100% control of QBs in season 2, and he chose Hoyer. In season 3, Mcnair/Rick put their foot down and said it's our turn now, and they went with Os.

So you don't believe true professionals like Glazer/Silver are doing their jobs? They're basically just throwing crap against the wall. I don't believe that.
I do believe your alternative situation. They screwed it up. Not what winning orgs do.

We have exactly 2 arguably 3 proven examples of McNair interference in 14 years. Yeah I'll call that ordinary owner.
The rest is your crystal ball and on that I'll defer to you Miss Cleo. Hey, I had a question for my grandad I didn't get to ask before he died. Can you help with that?
Well just in general, I'm rather hesitant to trust the media (especially on social media). We live in a world where people throw out rumors, perceptions, opinions, embellishments just to generate clicks, likes, and re-tweets. No one is holding these guys accountable. Jason La Canfora is a guy that repeatedly writes stuff that do not end up being truthful, but yet, he still has a job. You mentioned you don't believe what McClain writes and says. He's a professional as well... so why trust some but not others?
Sure, I believe it, And who was the source of the leak that said O'Brien had Osweiler forced on him? What I don't believe is that these guys have McNair as a source. Because we know that none of this sounds like McNair. He doesn't like leaks and he doesn't like change. So there is smoke. Coming from 2 guys who aren't in charge of the fire.If you believe what LZ reported Smith was the source of the leak.
How many examples do YOU need?
Well gee maybe 2-3 a year, not 2-3 a decade and a half.
Not doing your rumor as fact game.
Not my rumor game.
LZ/Silver/Glazer's rumor game.
You know people who get paid and have sources throughout the NFL.

It's your rumor game. People like them have jobs because folks like you do hail mary's to whatever they say, or at least what fits what you already think.
One thing I noticed you didn't respond to is the dysfunction within the Texans org. It's there whether you want to admit it or not. Been there for yrs and probably will remain so.
I could sift thru any team in the league and find both.
Please do so and enforce your opinion with 3-4 examples. Thanks.![]()
I'm surprised more hasn't been said about this.....![]()
Seems like LZ is hinting that Smith is the leak.
You name the team that has never had bad judgment or bad luck and I'll start with them.
Seriously missing the point if you thought that was the exercise.
You made the promise not me. Give 3-4 examples and don't skirt the issue.
And more than ever, this is something to show ownership in the offseason and say, “I would like to have full power over the roster.”
O’Brien doesn’t have that now. But let the Texans win next week against the Chiefs or the Patriots. Give McNair and this franchise something to think about. Raise spirits. Buoy hopes. Inflate optimism. See what happens.
"I could" =/= a promise. Basic English.
Are you really asserting there is a team without bad judgment or bad luck? Come out and make the assertion there is such a team, let's say within Rick Smith's tenure, and I'll give you examples.
Otherwise you're just trolling. And we both know, no such team exists.
Odd how mater of factly you say something. You said you would/could do something. You have not....somebody call an exterminator, i hear crickets.
Cak, just to be honest, "Self-appointed possessor of truth" and "king of smart-assery" works better in TNSZ. The TexansTalk football fans are just having some fun with speculation about the team, okay? Not really a big enough deal for you to come in here causing strife and hard feelings. Please leave that crap in the no spin zone. Thanks. (Yes, I know, you are a moderator and can do whatever you damn well please.)

Actually powda only tried his gimmick because of NSZ strife. But I'm done with the issue. Y'all have a good evening excoriating the unknown inner workings of the Texans.
Used to be we talked football around here like actual foot technique, routes, schemes, etc. Things we could observe. But carry on.
