Really sad, seems like this stuff happens far too often in New Orleans. 1st Will Smith and now this.
RIP and thoughts and prayers go out to the McKnight family.

USF’s Willie Taggart will be named Oregon’s coach, a source told @ESPN
(Lane Kiffin now becomes a favorite to become HC at USF. Lane and his wife both have strong roots and connection to the Tampa area.)
Is the Lane Kiffin part an adlib?
Former Texas coach Charlie Strong is headed to South Florida

USF should at least take a look at Charlie Strong, IMO.
Nailed it. Strong recruits south Florida unlike anyone I have seen. I worry about his affect on FSU's ability to get some recruits, even though it's USF. Players love Strong.
Much like recruits Baylor and TCU has signedHe likely won't get the blue chips to USF but where he will dent FSU and Miami is his ability to get guys at that next level down. Guys that are really talented but not getting the same attention as the top recruits. The bulk of most recruiting classes are made from those guys and they usually end up being the glue guys on good teams. USF will start getting some of the ones that used to go to FSU and Miami.
Wow, what a complete and utter c*ckhead.
True.
But did he do anything illegal?
Misdemeanor assault. He got a one-year deferred sentence, 100 hours community service, and counseling.
Wow... I wouldn't have called that assault.
I think he's a POS to hit a woman like that. But if that was a man, would you call that assault?
Why did she push him and then slap him? She stepped to him first according to what is shown on the vid.Wow, what a complete and utter c*ckhead.

I've never been a proponent of hitting women. I've never struck a girl in anger. Never will.
But I DO want to know why she tore into him first. And it looked like she came into the restaurant with attitude from the jump.
More to this than that short video shows.
And as TK said, if a guy had pushed him and then hit him in the face, it would have been ON and this wouldn't be a story.

It was a punk move by a punk kid and he deserved punishment.
Agreed. But I don't think he did anything criminal.
If I thought I was a badass & suckered punched you, then you uppercut me into a coma, I don't think I should be able to sue you, or that you should face criminal charges.
The school should revoke his scholarship, conduct unbecoming.
Strange that you only quoted and responded to one tiny part of what I said, so I'll repeat, essentially, the rest of it just to be sure.
The particulars of the participants matters.
This girl was never in any way whatsoever an actual threat to this guy to warrant his return of force. This is key to his (any) self-defense argument.
I think dude could have decided not to respond with force & filed charges against her for assault.
Most everyone would still be calling him a punk, but for entirely different reasons.
I do not consider what he did in that video assault. Doesn't mean I condone his actions or think he did nothing wrong. I just wouldn't call it assault.

I don't know how you'd rationally call it self-defense. He's a human weapon compared to her. Which is absolutely central to his claiming self-defense.
He initiated the whole mess, and he broke her f*ck*ng face. And it wasn't self-defense.
We're left with assault. I don't know how else you categorize it.
She assaulted him. he could have walked away. he could have guarded his person. or he could retaliate.
I wouldn't call it self defense.
I do not feel his actions were appropriate.
I do not feel he broke any law. had he been a certified black belt, or a prize fighter (amateur or professional) I could see it.
But this was just a heat of the action moment gone wrong. still should be punished, I could see the school reprimand in him.
I just don't see criminal assault.
So women should just be able push and slap any guy they please as long as they're smaller than he his?He legally broke a girl's face who posed no legitimate threat to him. Ok.
So women should just be able push and slap any guy they please as long as they're smaller than he his?
And how do you know she posed no threat? Do you know she didn't have a weapon in her purse? Could he know that?
I've never struck a female and never will. And I'm with the folks that say he should be kicked off the team and suspended from school and add to that have to pay her medical bills. But giving him a criminal record for life? I'm not there.
Would you really call it self-defense?
Yes I would, women need to learn to keep their hands off of men and vice versa. With that said I think he took it to far. But can somebody clearly define for me what is too far.
BTW, I've never hit a woman in my life, but have been hit by a woman.
He was loaded for bear hunting gopher. A gopher nipped his ankle and he fired his loaded weapon.
But yes, no one (man, woman, both, non-descript) should be laying hands on anyone else. So for the umpteenth (I think second umpteenth time in this thread, so that's maybe umpteenthsquared) time, she was wrong for getting physical. Could have been charged. But once he showed his true aim was to continue with what he initiated and took the situation advantageously hostile then he took responsibility for the outcome and damages.
Agreed
But you didn't clearly identify the line.
I didn't intend to. Never said there was a clearly identifiable line for all occasions either. Just like I said from the get go that the particulars of the participants matters, I think what is taking things too far is dependent on the variables of the situation.
The particulars and variables of this situation have been repeated several times, and I believe they warrant a 'too far' judgment and sentence.
So the line is arbitrary.
And that is wrong. (Not you)
She has no right to slap him, but he obviously is not in the right to batter her to the point of breaking bones in her face.
So if there were no breaking bone, would this be different? If he wasn't as strong as he is & he just knocked here down, bruised her ego... this wouldn't be assault in your book?
Maybe I missed it, but no one in this conversation has said he was "in the right" for hitting her. The question is, what level of force or what degree of difference in, call it strength/size/ability to do damage, makes this altercation a criminal act and not just an altercation between a drunk person and a pissed off person??It's battery regardless. Man or woman, I think they both should be guilty of battery.
He's taking no course of action to avoid a confrontation and appears to be inviting it.
He's clearly part of the problem here and in the wrong. If you can't see that, there's nothing to debate with you. We'll just disagree.
