College Football Random Thought Of The Day

Thought 4 was a bit premature a ranking for this Noles team to start the year, as much as one can put into preseason rankings.

But man this team looks off it's collective arse. Hats off to Ole Miss for being the far more prepared team in this game though. Chad Kelly doing himself a ton of favors. And their dline is playing at whole other level than FSU's oline.

Last two games for Jimbo haven't been the stronger parts of his resume counter to how Herman's and Freeze's squads have shown up.

Wow, this is worst FBS game I have ever seen. No execution, no great plays, just mistake after mistake on both teams, both sides of ball. Missed assignments, missed blocks, penalties, stupid mistakes, poor hands, poor ball placement, just bad play period. Neither Ole Miss nor Florida St should be in top 25 next week, but AP doesn't subjectively watch football, so they both probably will. Just wow, I wouldn't consider ranking a single player from this game in my top 100 for the 2017 draft based on this game.

Who's your top 25 next week?

Not worth your time.

We got real lucky with those two turnovers early in this 3rd. That Ole Miss WR just dropped it and tipped it to us. Then Walker just made an exceptional play on his own. Hope we can keep them reeling.

Just curious since it's so obvious. But duly noted.

And tbf, their second td had a little luck stuck on it. These things tend to come and go. Just glad we woke up. Think the initial tempo bit by their offense really set things off poorly. Brilliant scheme by Ole Miss, of course.

I fell asleep at halftime...I'm ashamed. Saw the box score, will need to see what happened.

Fun to see the game slow down for a young QB over the span of one single night.

He improved dramatically over the course of the game. Having said that, the receivers were pretty wide open all game, especially on the shorter throws. I'm glad things slowed down for him and he was able to take advantage of it in the second half. It will be interesting to see what happens when there is tight coverage across the board.

Is Francois legit 6'2? He looked much shorter in game

I don't know. Probably only a few of the guys are their listed height and weight.

Off subject, I think the kiss mark tat on his neck is tacky as hell. Tats are fine by me, but a tat of a kiss on your neck? Really, man? I hope there is some kind of good explanation behind it or he should be getting it in the locker room.

So this is a thing that starts tonight ...

Didn't know this was even a series, as I don't get Showtime, and one that apparently followed Notre Dame last year.

But looking forward to at least the first one now to see how it goes. Jimbo, dadgummit!

I wonder where they'll be ranked this weekend. I bet 11 or 12, just outside the top 10.

alright then ...

1 Alabama (54) 1-0 1518 --
2 Clemson (2) 1-0 1416 --
3 Florida State (4) 1-0 1413 +1
4 Ohio State 1-0 1324 +2
5 Michigan (1) 1-0 1261 +2
6 Houston 1-0 1243 +9
7 Stanford 1-0 1140 +1
8 Washington 1-0 884 + 6
9 Georgia 1-0 877 + 9
10 Wisconsin 1-0 759 --

... 'bout what I thought, tbh.

Jimbo does something illegal at halftime. It's like he injects his guys with "give a ****," a highly illegal substance.

It's hard to find a coach that wins halftime as often as Jimbo does.

Or sometimes he just let's National Champion Heisman Trophy winning #1 overall draft pick natural born leaders have a brief moment ...

... no biggie.

I like Winston. I think he's going to be very successful.

There is something about him that doesn't show up in physical attributes that is special. Watching him in college was very interesting. He has an uncanny ability to rise to the moment and bring others with him and he doesn't fold when he personally has not been playing well in a game.

Agreed. & every time I see/hear him mic'd up, he impresses me. I don't care for his southern accent or dialect, but he's always motivating his teammates or giving pointers or something to help the team get better. & his teammates seem to take it as constructive criticism. A sideline leadership that doesn't seem fake or forced.

Class.

I absolutely cannot stand Gary Danielson at times. He's so exceptionally biased in favor of Alabama that it makes the game nearly unwatchable.

Could you guys clear something up for me?? I was listening to ESPN radio (a butch of blowhards talking over each other) and they were convinced Alabama was getting all the calls by the officials while they were making their comeback.

Having not seen anything yet, is there any truth to this?? I suspect not, but was wondering.

Wow. Arkansas is putting it on Texas St. I've been at the mercy of radio all day.)

Not what I saw of it. Didn't watch every snap though. And I'm terribly stubborn about not getting caught up in zebrabias-itis anyway.

Sounds like jelly talkinghead doodoo.

I watched some of the Bama/Miss game while eating lunch. I did see a few questionable calls/non-calls. Most in Bama favor, but a couple the other way, too.
Interesting game.

This is a classy act in memory of a deceased teammate:
A week after seeing visiting Oregon lay flowers on the field in honor of their fallen teammate, Nebraska will hit the road and see another opponent pay their respects for Sam Foltz. Northwestern will wear a helmet sticker on their football helmets this weekend as the Wildcats host Nebraska for a Big Ten opener.
Foltz was killed in a vehicle accident over the summer. Former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler was also killed in the accident and LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye was injured as well. The three were traveling together from a kicking camp in Wisconsin. In Nebraska’s season opener, the punting unit intentionally lined up with 10 men on the field and took a delay of game penalty, which was turned down by opponent Fresno State.

On Saturday, Oregon placed flowers at the Nebraska 27-yard line prior to the game as a show of respect for the program. This latest gesture by Northwestern is another reminder of the unity and family-like approach Pat Fitzgerald strives to have with his program and that can be found within a conference. Time will tell if other future Nebraska opponents find ways to share their condolences as well, but this is a wonderfully touching show of respect from the Northwestern program.

Dang, ILB Nick Deluca North Dakota middle LB has surgery for dislocated shoulder and is expected to apply for medical hardship status. I was hoping he could sneak onto Texans next year. 2015: 135 Tackles with 10.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, two interceptions, six pass breakups, one quarterback hurry and two forced fumbles..

Anyone else making the trip to San Marcos on Saturday to see the Cougars play the Bobcats? My daughter was a freshman at Tx. State last year and a sophomore at UH this year so she's a bit conflicted on who to cheer for.

She should cheer for the Coogs.
