JJ Watt "he is just awesome" Thread

So Watt is more valuable to his team's win total than anyone else listed on that chart. In fact, he's the Most Valuable Player on that chart. By a lot.

J.J. Watt Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career and second time this season after leading Houston to a 23-7 victory over Cleveland in Week 11.

Watt starred on defense and recorded a strip-sack of Browns QB Brian Hoyer, his league-leading fourth fumble recovery of the season at the Houston 22-yard line in the second quarter, a season-best tying three tackles for loss and five tackles. Watt now has seven career games with at least one sack and one fumble recovery.

Watt’s impact was felt on the offensive side of the ball when he hauled in a 2-yard touchdown reception, his second receiving touchdown of the year and fourth touchdown overall. Watt is the first defensive lineman since 1948 to have four touchdowns in a season. New York Giants DE Ray Poole and Los Angeles Rams DE Jack Zilly both had four overall touchdowns in 1948.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Watt became the first player since Chicago Bears DB J.C. Caroline in 1956 to score multiple touchdowns on offense and defense in the same season...

Josh Shepardson @BChad50
According to @PFF, J.J. Watt has 28 QB hits. The next closest by a DEF lineman? Robert Ayers and Carlos Dunlap are tied with 12. Good lord.

.....good grief.

Two sacks, forced fumble, fumble recovery and a TD catch today

Don't know how many tackles,or batted balls off the top of my head

I just saw some postgame interview with Watt and he got a little testy with John McClain and one other reporter about the hit on Mett.

Now I love the guy even more.

I had to laugh watching #97 thinking he was about to scoop up the stripped ball before JJ comes flying in front of him to pick it up. Watt just makes everybody look like they're in slow motion.

that was a kinda a cheap shot on Met and I'm ok with that. Wish every time Watt made a good play on defense the crowd would yell, "SHUT YOU DOWWWWN!!!!". :swatter:

i can't believe Watt can even sack a QB when he's held damn near every play. I also can't believe how little it's called. I know you could damn near call holding on every play as is, but when he's tackled 3 feet from the QB you'd think the ref would see it.

When your best player is the hardest working player on the team it makes you pretty happy every time he makes a play. O'Brien is rewarding him in some situations, but that doesn't bother me one bit.

I hope he doesn't start passing.

At the risk of bringing the wrath of the board on my head, has anyone considered that he roughed the punter (twice!) in an effort just to check off Blocked Punt on this year's growing list of accomplishments? Maybe just a little bit too much stat sheet watching?

I am now going to Stop, Drop, and Roll.

If he is stat watching... maybe more people need to be stat watching. Whatever he is doing everyone else should be doing too.

Mike

Their is an undertone from the media and Titans staff that suggests JJ was dirty on that play. If they watch the replay they would see JJ was on his knee the whole time while Mettenberger was down, looking like a concern parent about the condition of their kid. That suggests the compassionate nature of this beast of a man.

Why do they throw to JJW, when they have tight ends? That is a slap in the face to the receivers. Those guys get bonus bucks for touchdown receptions and JJW is stealing their money. The 85 Bears threw a pass to refrigerator William Perry once and only once. This is an insult and Watts needs to get off the "me,me,me" show.

The coaches call the plays, not the players. The coaching staff knows that Watt is up for MVP this year, along with another defensive MVP. They are helping his cause, something of which I don't have a problem with.

This. Not to mention if it's a slap in the face to receivers and TEs maybe they should up their game. I'll start complaining when JJ starts dropping those passes. The last 2 TD grabs JJ had weren't exactly give me's and our tight ends and receivers (excluding Hopkins yesterday) have had bouts with drops quite often.

i know and its like why does he have to keep recovering fumbles when he could wait and let a teammate get one or two

totally frikin selfish dude

sometimes he even runs for tds when he could let fitz throw another td pass to somebody else

why do we even keep this guy?

:wadepalm:

I'm willing to bet if you'd ask any player/personnel in the organization they'd tell you Watt is all about the team first mentality.

As for the rest of your post...lol. Sounds like Watt stole your woman

Well, to be fair, Watt could probably steal anyone's woman right about now and no one have a problem with it.

I bet Tennessee thought he was going to get a hand off & try to ram in through the line, the way he lined up in the backfield. Then when he motioned out, it was like,

Speak for yourself. My wife talks about Jj Watt too much as it is...

I should have put my foot down when she put that fathead up above the bed.

Such a weak, retarded post... First of all, the TE's had all season to become a red zone tackle and didn't. If they want TD's they need to up their game. Same with any WR's as well. 2nd, you call plays that work. Obviously they are working so who honestly gives a dung? Are you related to a receiver or something? If so, tell them to up their damn game, otherwise what kind of fan wants to give up TD points so as to not hurt a poor receiver's feelings or paycheck? Lastly, what kind of dumbass fan thinks Watt catching TD's is a insult and a "me, me, me" show? It is awesome and great for the team in so many ways. I will reiterate, this post is freaking stupid.

Get back to us if/when JJ doesn't catch one thrown his way.

I don't know why opposing teams are sleeping on Watt but they have been. So be it. It isn't his fault. It may be working just because the QBs focus on him instead of over thinking with the normal targets. AJ got that TD yesterday doing nothing he hasn't done a million times before other than having the QB say f'k it and letting him make the play.

Who cares if it's even a halfback pass to Fitzpatrick, it's a touchdown and Watt is 3 for 3.

They aren't sleeping on him, there was tight coverage for his last 2 receiving td's. They just can't stop him :swatter:

Maybe I am not remembering correctly, but the TD before this one he had double coverage with one guy draped all over him and he caught it anyways. This one had pretty tight coverage too, but Fitz put it in a good spot for him. Did I just see it wrong?

Kind of goes against its not about the individual though if they are pumping up one of their guys as an MVP candidate.

He has run unimpeded routes. Not knocking the throws or catches.

But my 2nd point was the main one. The QBs stay focused on getting him the ball. He hasn't done anything special but they pull the trigger.

That is the key right there...

If they would pull the trigger for AJ and trust him to make a play, he would have averaged about 20 td's a season

Which upcoming opponent is your real team? They throw to JJ because he CATCHES the ball, something the rest of our TE cast seems unable to do half the time.

I think he must have lost his fantasy game by a close margin and was hoping he could pull it out but JJ stole the points from his receiver

you also have to take into account who's covering them. andre's going to have the top cornerback directly over him and likely a coverage shift his direction. most tightends are bumped and redirected in the close quarters, which is why they need play action to be allowed a better release. being goalline, watt's going to have a run stop linebacker following him. the last two touchdowns that linebacker was in good position, but unable to close with the ball in the air - a big disadvantage against someone with watt's size and athleticism and hands.

I am confused a bit; why would QB's focus on him and pull the trigger for him in coverage as opposed to Hopkins or Andre. Is it because they run routes unimpeded or is it because Watt is bigger or gets open better in goal line situations?

Which goes back to my question to infantry, why would they trust Watt over Andre? There has to be more than just that. Andre has never, ever had double digit TD's in his career, long before Watt joined the crew. If Andre was a TD target, I imagine they would use him over Watt no?

Cuz Watt is a 6'5" 300lb monster that told them to "throw me the damn ball"

His next move is as a decoy. Just wait until someone decides to cover JJ with their best defender instead of Dre or Hop.

Because when you put in a special play "for him" regardless of who he is QBs tend to go with it.

AJ did nothing special on the TD yesterday. The only difference was the ball actually came his way. For some reason we have always been plagued by a coaching/QBing philosophy of letting AJ pull coverage in the end zone instead of make plays. Other teams are if in doubt go to your star and let him make a play.

Kind of off topic, but that ball was a zinger. Say what you will about the Fitz's arm, but he put some mustard on that puppy. AJ made a great catch by "lassoing" it in

He's had his chances, fumbles, and drops as well this year. While I tend to agree with in the aspect using JJ all the time is odd, I would rather see it thrown up to Hopkins in the corner and let someone deal with him than I would see JJ getting specific plays each week.

Didn't see Andre run over and congratulate him did we :)

I think the only reason he was unimpeded yesterday was 84 ran a pick....and was actually far more open than JJ afterward. Rather than being asleep, I think the defense was keyed on him.

I would say special in that he looked as good an any TE in the league, but agree on the "focused" part. The smart play was probably to the back of the end zone.
