Seattle Seahawks @ Houston Texans. Noon. 9/29. FOX. **Official GameDay Thread**

I think a certain decision to "play not to lose" after a big first half had a lot to do with it, too...

The play calls were fine. The QB was fine. Defense failed to put together two solid halves.

We need a new defense. It's wade Phillips fault. Its cushing's fault for getting concussed. It's Kareem's fault. Special teams was ok, but eff them too ya know?

The QB was fine though. People keep letting him down and putting too much in him.

Schaub needs to sit. I don't say that lightly either.

On a related not how come that douche nozzle cheater Carroll not gets a sanctioned by the punk ass goodell. Don't players get punished.

I can't stand when the powers that be are selective.

Ladies and gentlemen who will take this post literally...

It's :sarcasm:

What kind of excuse we get from post game presser? I just can't get over with Schaub's performance this year. This is not acceptable.

Seahawks showing they are legit Superbowl contenders while the Texans are content with competing for the AFC South championship and I'm not sure if we're really better than the Colts.

I think I've figured out what it is about Schaub that polarizes fans so much. When he has time and can settle in the pocket, he's incredibly accurate, one of the very best in the NFL. So when the O-line is giving good protection, and sometimes in two-minute drills with a 3-man rush, Schaub can look like the best in the game.

BUT... on the other hand, he is one of the worst QBs in the NFL when he is under pressure. His decision-making is questionable. And when facing pressure, there are several things you can do, and most NFL QBs can do one of these three things reasonably well:

(1) "Feel" the pressure, step up or to the side, and buy another 2-3 seconds or more (Peyton Manning is ridiculous at this);

(2) Be able to throw accurately on the run (Ben Roethlisberger);

(3) Beat you by tucking the ball away and using their legs (Wilson and several others).

Most QBs are decent at at least one of these. Schaub is fairly awful at all three. So when he's under a lot of pressure, a sack or an incomplete pass is the best you can reasonably hope for. Add to that a large dose of questionable decision-making under pressure, and well.... the secret to beating the Texans is getting a pass rush that keeps Schaub under almost constant pressure. Period. The game plan is almost that simple.

[EDIT: That all said, Kubiak sets him up to fail with his "play not to lose" strategy whenever he takes a big lead into halftime.]

Yeah, Schaub was great when the o-line was one of the best in the NFL. But with this patchwork line we have now, we nned a more athletic guy back there. This is just a bad combo. Fix the o-line or switch the QB.

Yes, but even then Schaub is more accurate than most. And he is pretty cool in a two-minute drill... and is very good at it when he has time. Some QBs may fold under the pressure. I will give Schaub credit there, where I feel it's due.

No he's not. He throws passes at peoples feet all day long and they scoop them up and he gets credit for being accurate. That's bull****. His two-minute drill "super powers" are also imaginary. Who has he come back on and stolen a win from? Mostly nobody's. When Matt rally's the team against Brady or Rogers let me know. Mostly he does it against teams that had little business being in the game to begin with (and that can often thank a gift or two from Matt for even being around at crunch time).

Schaub is a massive liability. He gets more rope than Carr did. **** him and **** Gary too. It's time for Matt to sit down and if Gary doesn't agree then it's time for the Wade Phillips era to begin in Houston.

Yup, agree 100%.
Gary's overly conservative and predictable play calling and Schaubs almost guaranteed pick six per game.
That interception was the nail.

How could he not be conservative, Schaub is freaking color blind. He thinks he's joe flacco just throwing the ball up and expecting someone to catch it.

What? Sarcasm I hope. Defense played great for the most part. The offense sucked big time in the second half.

Defense didn't do enough. They should have stopped them or got a pick six themselves. Yeah they did good early, but they didn't finish.

It's so hard being a QB. I think he did about as good as he could have all things considered.

ha...hhaha...hhhahhahhhahhahha....

This loss is mostly on Schaub with 2 ints, pick 6 and not making up for that when he had the chance.

Another note this d is a different beast or should i say a lack thereof when Cushing is out. A 90+ yard drive and stupid mistakes

Please for the love of GOD tell me this is sarcasm.....

MATT F'ING SCHAUB LOST THIS GAME!!!

end of discussion, no debate or rationalizing about it!!!

This line plays fine. Look at the line that stood across the field from us today. They had the benefit of an athletic QB so every mistake they made didn't automagically turn into a fetal position Gomer Pyle moment.

Ryan Harris is a perfectly serviceable LT. Newton is not great but he's better than many. This still leaves two Pro Bowlers out there.

The line is an excuse and you would think that Texans fans would have learned to identify that after 5 years of David Carr. Instead we're making excuses all over again for Matt Schaub.

Good God no. I'm not a total anti-Kubes fan, (he has rings as an OC, it's not like he sat on his ass coaching) but please, Wade Phillips as HC is an awful idea. It's better to look elsewhere for a coach.

Meh, our offense is always giving the other team points.

10 points given up by the offense, a fumble by tate that gave up 3 points and ANOTHER pick 6 by Schaub.

Hawks fan here. I am not here to rub it in. Wanted to say you have a tough team and I respect the heck out of them. Well, all except the guy who threw our receiver down. He pretty much threw the W down on the ground with him.

This is nothing like our 49ers win, who we hate, and feasted on their tears for days. Wish you guys well and who knows maybe we'll see you in New York.

Oh, and the JJ Watt hype is justified. Dude is legit. Sucks that the rest of the line doesn't get talked about too much tho. Cushing is a beast too.

Don't kid yourself the line hasn't looked fine all year

Agreed with everything except letting Wade be HC.

So everyone here expected SEA not to adjust? They're the best D in the league, God some of you can be caustic and nauseating. The game came down to one play, KJax did not have to slam that guy, stupid decision that DID cost the game since it was a tie prior to giving up the 22 yards. Now you people csn move on to predicting the Slaughter in San Francisco, pathetic.

We're not better than the colts...LMAO

That's tears in my eye funny right there.

Even if we somehow squeak into the play-offs, we aren't beating any good teams playing good football.

If Schaub is at qb, this season is a wrap.

Wow. Just absolutely WOW. Two absolutely gritty performances from both teams. Really could have gone either way. Russell Wilson is a demigod.

WOW. Great game. You guys are great hosts.

No he's not. He throws passes at peoples feet all day long and they scoop them up and he gets credit for being accurate. That's bull****.

Yeah, this imaginary accuracy argument based solely on completion percentage has always annoyed me (with other QBs int he past as well). Schaub throws high, throws low, and throws behind. He almost never sets up his throw so that the receiver can turn and run with it easily. Troy Aikman was accurate. The man could hit a WR in the hands 40 yards down the field. Schaub can't hit Foster in stride 5 yards away.

He's not accurate.

Bring on the rockets. We go nowhere with MS

Zero pts scored in 1st, 3rdand 4th quarters.

No 2nd half pts

Ms throwing TD pass for the other team.

No he's not.

We may have to agree to disagree on that one. That said....

Schaub is a massive liability. He gets more rope than Carr did. **** him and **** Gary too. It's time for Matt to sit down and if Gary doesn't agree then it's time for the Wade Phillips era to begin in Houston.

Yes, I totally agree with this (except about Wade as head coach). This team is maxed out under Schaub and Kubiak. Schaub is a liability because you don't spend most of the game (especially against elite opponents) not being under pressure. And he is one of the worst QBs in the NFL under pressure. Period.

And Kubiak has no killer instinct whatsoever. Every big lead he has ever racked up, he sits on, goes conservative, plays "not to lose" and lets the other team back into the game instead of trying to drive the boot into the throat.

I'm not interesting in disagreeing on the smaller point because we agree on the (much) bigger one.

We'll trade you Schaub for a bag of peanuts and an iced tea. If that is to high a price, we'll give him to you.

Note that it is not a suggestion I am making. It's facing the reality that McNair signed up for when he brought Wade in. We all know that on the other side of Gary (assuming we see it in the next 5 years or so) is a brief Wade Phillips regime.

I'd want Cowher but I know I'm gonna get Wade. Gary now stinks enough that I'm ready to face the Wade alternative if for no other reason than to get it started and over with quicker.

The Tate fumble completely changed the momentum of the game. Still JJo gets us a pick and we get a decent drive going. If Schaub doesn't throw that godawful INT (WTH was he thinking) we win by 7. End of story. The loss is on Schaub. Gary's playcalling is just the way it is, conservative, but until the Tate fumble he called an excellent game.

Seems like after that pick 6 which was wholly unnecessary, I agree.

I've been a Schaub supporter but that was really bad. Up by 7, with an upcoming punt that would've pinned them, he should have just eaten it on the ground at least.

It came down to one play but that was not the play that it came down to.

Schaub should have just thrown it out or taken the sack. Let your defense win the game. Put ALL the pressure on SEA to tie the game instead of just tossing it up there.

I want to believe. I really do. However it sucks when we were up 20-6 I felt we need more

I am to the point were we are the best we will ever get right now

And on the last drive of the second half, he threw up another floater under pressure for which he was VERY lucky it wasn't another pick.

This team is pretty much maxed out with Kubiak and Schaub at the helm. As much as I hate them, you give Brady and Belichick this kind of supporting cast, and you're looking at a team with enough talent to go 14-2.

Hell you give Brady and Belichick this WR core and defense, they are winning SB for the next 5 years....
