Colts hang 'AFC Finalist' banner at stadium, Internet laughs at them

Losing a game by 38 points isn't usually something you want to celebrate, but don't tell that to the Colts, who decided to commemorate their 45-7 AFC title game loss by hanging an "AFC Finalist" banner at Lucas Oil Stadium this week.

I spy a new #Colts banner inside @LucasOilStadium. We're live from mini-camp beginning 4p #TheNowIndy on @rtv6 pic.twitter.com/wLDkp4YOSE

If you think hanging up a banner that says "AFC Finalist" sounds ridiculous, you're not the only one, almost everyone on Twitter seems to agree.

A Super Bowl banner makes sense. A division title banner makes sense, too. But a banner to mark a loss in the AFC Championship Game?

Dear @Colts Please take down that banner asap. Sincerely, All Colts fans with any self respect.

The Colts hanging a "2014 AFC Finalist" banner at Lucas Oil is the funniest thing anyone's ever done in the history of sports

— Jill Pellegrini (@jillpell28) June 10, 2015
Colts hang AFC finalist banner. Congratulations on getting smoked 45-7 & putting a banner up to remind you how bad you lost

— Eric Blodgett (@eblodge8706) June 10, 2015
After hanging the banner, a few fans offered suggestions for other banners.

The Colts should hang a banner for every time they lose to the Patriots by less than 20.

— Matt Inglis (@Inglis_14) June 10, 2015
We scored 3 points in the first quarter..... Gotta hang a banner. #Colts

— ryan berardi (@armyrossi) June 10, 2015
The new banner is also forcing Colts fans to ask themselves existential questions.

#Colts fans - Is it time for a higher standard of banner? http://t.co/mqyPz98gzG pic.twitter.com/Gee2elLV8b

— RTV6 Indianapolis (@rtv6) June 10, 2015
Patriots fans, who watched their team beat Indy 45-7, seemed to find the banner especially amusing.

All the #Colts need to do now is raise a WE STARTED DEFLATEGATE banner.

If the Colts need some banner-hanging advice, they could ask the Detroit Lions, who were neatly able to commemorate 14 playoff appearances on only two banners

I wish we could be hanging a banner like that at NRG this year... or last year... I wouldn't mind next year either. I mean a World Championship banner would be preferred. But this would he a close secon .

Ereck Flowers on negotiating his own contract with Giants: 'It's going good'

First-round pick Ereck Flowers spoke in hushed, nonchalant tones earlier this week in the Giants locker room about his ongoing contract negotiations with the team. He noted softy that they're "going good" and indicated a deal would be finalized sooner rather than later.

This is the way the aircraft carrier of an offensive linemen works. Flowers isn't one to waste much energy or many words on anything that doesn't help him become a better football player. Divulging details about how close the No. 9 overall pick was to negotiating and signing his first professional contract wasn't at the top of his priority list that day, or probably any day.

It's understandable. The 21-year-old left tackle has enough on his plate. He's been thrown into the fire at left tackle, trying to replace injured starter Will Beatty, who will be sidelined until at least mid-October. He's also busy working behind the scenes trying to finalize his contract, which is slotted to be for four years and a fully guaranteed $14.4 million.

"We're just talking," Flowers said of the current status.

Flowers knows all the details. He's hands-on in this situation because he doesn't have an agent. He's handling the contract negotiator role with the help of some close confidants, including his father and a lawyer. He's saving $432,000 based off the standard 3-percent agent fee.

"I have people I talk to," Flowers said of the times when there is a question or he needs a sounding board.

This isn't a normal situation for a rookie. Every other first-round pick has an agent. But Flowers says it's pretty much going as he expected.

"It's average," he said, clearly unshaken by the process.

Are you serious? That thing is tacky to the point of embarrassment. WTF happened to dignified? What next we have SB necklaces this guy would be proud of:

At 1st the size threw me off. Than I realized they had to fit 4 super bowl trophies on it. :headhurts: Pretty sure nobody walks around wearing super bowl rings. In my opinion they've become something players just put in their trophy cases.

Yeah and that's not exactly the angle I'd use if I were taking a photo for a sales mag either.
When we win our four SBs we can design something different.
...maybe something in the shape of a rodeo belt buckle

Report: Video shows assault committed by Junior Galette
In 2013, a video was uploaded to YouTube depicting a man throwing punches and swinging a belt during a brawl on a beach, hitting at least one man and one woman. Today, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that the man shown assaulting people is Saints linebacker Junior Galette.

Great eyes. The only thing I can tell is that at least two different people are dressed alike (numbered 3 and 4) so differentiating between them will take more skill than I have. The hat may or may not be useful since we don't know whether it was the only one or if the same person always wore it/them while none of the others did.

Jim Harbaugh once dressed in full pads at practice

Former 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was simply a star that shined too bright for the NFL.

The latest example comes from former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker, who said Harbaugh once dressed in full pads for a practice and played the role of No. 3 quarterback.

He also did pretty well.

"It didn't surprise me one bit," Walker said, via The Tennessean. "Harbaugh doesn't surprise anyone. He does whatever he feels like doing. Truthfully, I think Harbaugh still thinks he's a player, not a coach."

Source: Malcolm Butler benched by Patriots due to missed flight

Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler has learned a hard lesson about life in the NFL.

Butler was late for the first practice of organized team activities May 18 because he missed a flight on the way to Boston due to weather issues, and he was held off the practice field for three weeks, according to a team source. Butler attempted to fly into Boston the day before OTAs, but the weather-related issues pushed his arrival into the next day.

Butler is supposed to be back on the field this week as the Patriots wrap up their OTAs at Gillette Stadium and head into next week's minicamp.

It's a hard disciplinary measure for the second-year cornerback and Super Bowl hero, who did reach out to the team to let them know of his canceled flight, but players are often advised to travel early enough to avoid weather-related delays. Still, the three-week ban is longer than any known related incidents for past players, especially during a voluntary workout program.

Butler, whose interception sealed the Patriots' victory against the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, has still been at Gillette every day during OTAs, attending all meetings, film sessions and weight room workouts. He has only been kept off the practice field.

The reason for Butler's absences during the two open workouts had been unknown until this development. It's believed Butler will be present tomorrow when the media returns to watch practice.

The team source said Butler was very disappointed to be held out of practice, but he treated it as a lesson learned and has brought the right attitude to Gillette on a daily basis. Upon returning to the field, Butler will compete with Logan Ryan and Bradley Fletcher for the top jobs at cornerback. Robert McClain, Jordan Richards, Dax Swanson and Justin Green are also in the mix for playing time.

Now that Butler is ready to return, the competition will intensify at one of the most focal positions on the roster.

Three weeks!?!

It may not be game or season threatening, either. Everyone waiting for medical clarity.

According to a report from WINZ in Florida, Giants star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been involved in a serious accident involving fireworks which may have severely injured his hand. Pierre-Paul is currently a franchise player for the Giants, but does not have an active contract with the team. He had been hoping to negotiate a long term extension with the Giants that would pay him in excess of $14 million per season. His one year tender offer was worth $14.8 million and now it could be worth nothing.

The Giants can opt to pull the tender offer from Pierre-Paul at any time which would, in turn, allow him to become an unrestricted free agent, at a time when he may be completely unable to play football. Even if he had signed the contract he would have no protection since the guarantee in the contract is for football injury only, meaning the Giants could place him on a non-Football injury list and avoid payment completely if they so desired.

Teams and players can negotiate lower value payments to a player on NFI, as a bit of a goodwill gesture. They can also negotiate a very low value regular contract to compensate the player and keep available a route for extension during the year if the injury is not as serious as some of the rumors suggest. Such a deal would likely pay a minimum salary if on IR, PUP, NFI, or some other list and a base rate similar to the final year of his rookie contract.

Either way this is a potentially devastating injury (if true) that could have been prevented. This is why teams often put certain clauses in contracts about performing certain activities and why agents should steer their players against doing things that can void potential earnings. This could be a cautionary tale for years to come for any potential free agent, franchise player, or restricted player who does not have an active contract and is thinking of doing something potentially dangerous to his body. This has the makings of a sad story for Pierre-Paul.

What was Pierre-Paul doing with a van full of fireworks. Supposedly he suffered burns to the palm and fingers of one of his hands. Not said to be career threatening or season threatening. Depending on the depth and extent, later contractures of his hand or fingers is possible, and could certainly be troublesome.

At least he didn't apparently blow off any body parts..........and can still manage to count all the way to 10 fortunately while still being able to use his fingers as an aid.:kitten:

The National Football League has signed a 10-year agreement with a newly commissioned sports stadium in Great Britain to host two American football games per year there.
The NFL signed its agreement with Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League to play at their still-under-construction stadium scheduled for completion in 2018.

The stadium, designed to host multiple sporting events and other attractions, will feature a permanent American football artificial turf installed underneath a retractable natural grass field.

“With growing enthusiasm for the NFL in the United Kingdom, we are committed to hosting NFL games in world-class venues and are excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur to play games at their future stadium,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “We share a vision and commitment to creating the best experience for our teams, fans and the local community.”

Hardy and the NFLPA believe that the suspension should have been only two games under the Personal Conduct Policy that applied in May 2014, when the incident between Hardy and his ex-girlfriend occurred. Henderson’s convoluted ruling seemed to pick four games out of thin air, obtusely pretending that the NFL didn’t change the Personal Conduct Policy in the aftermath of the Ray Rice case.

The argument is fairly simple: Rice got two games for knocking out his then-fiancée. Under that standard, the Hardy and the NFLPA can argue in federal court that he should have gotten the same thing.

So, there shouldn't be "inflation" in woman-beating... :truck:

Not a particular "fan of Keenum" but I'd rather have him here than Hoyer.

I really need to find a cat to kick if Hoyer is named starter.

Agreed. I think Fitzpatrick & Hoyer were both slaps in the face... no that I'm a Keenum fan, & not that I think he deserves anything more than what he got. But Fitz & Hoyer... c'mon!!!!

Cats, puppies, & little old ladies will rue he day Hoyer is named our starting QB.

Chiefs LB Justin Houston's new 6-year, $101 million deal also is second richest deal in NFL history behind only Ndamukong Suh's.

KC's Justin Houston signed a 6-year, $101M deal that includes $52.5M GTD, richest Chiefs' deal in history, richest LB deal in NFL history.

Very good player, but seems a bit much for a specialist to me - especially considering the amount of help he has on that line with Hali and Poe.
