Jamies Winston Qb Florida State

More likely their physician was the one who first noticed the muscular imbalance... they're all supposed to be there for everyone.

Aahhh, raspberries ... Be much more fun to find out Stephen's been forced to follow his dad around just to tear up the early copies of draft cards he's been making with Jameis's name on them. Oh well.

I guess this is what happens when you go off script.

Jameis Winston doesn’t rule out playing baseball

So much for quarterback Jameis Winston saying all the right things.

The former Florida State quarterback, who told Charles Davis of NFL Network over the weekend that the 2013 Heisman winner “didn’t even get coached up like I should have got coached up” in preparation for Scouting Combine interviews, sounded like a guy who hasn’t been coached up at all when it comes to talking about playing baseball in the future.

Asked by Peter King of TheMMQB.com about the possibility, Winston opted not to use the kind of football-only absolutes that coaches and General Managers would like to hear.

“Right now I am focusing on football,” Winston told King. “This is the first offseason I’ve ever had where I can focus totally on football. I am loving this, being a quarterback every day. . . . Anything that keeps me busy helps me. I love baseball. I love football. Playing both was the best of both worlds.”

So would he ever play both sports professionally? The right answer would be, “No. I’m a football player.” To his credit (or to his detriment), Winston opted for something closer to the truth.

“I can’t speak on that,” Winston said of playing both sports at the same time. “It always has been my dream, but I’m just playing football right now.”

It’s always been his “dream” to play both sports as a pro, but he realizes it’s wise to be circumspect at a time when he’s expecting a football team to select him to be its franchise quarterback. And so “right now” the focus is football.

How long will “right now” last? Until he’s drafted by a team he perhaps doesn’t want to play for? Until he encounters true adversity in adapting to the NFL? Until he realizes that he lacks the raw athleticism to thrive against NFL-caliber competition?

It’s unclear whether he has the ability to thrive in pro baseball. In 2012, the Texas Rangers made Winston a fifteenth-round pick as an outfielder. In 2013, University of Miami baseball coach Jim Morris dubbed Winston a potential first-round pick in both football and baseball.

So what happens if/when Winston is drafted by another Major League Baseball team? “Right now” he’s focusing on football. Perhaps something else will cause him to focus on baseball. Which could set up a team like the Buccaneers, who wasted the No. 1 overall pick in 1986 on eventual baseball player Bo Jackson, to ultimately waste a pick on Winston.

But he told coach Mooch in his one on one that he was done with baseball

You can't be a good QB in the NFL if you're thinking about baseball.

oh really?

Signed, Bo Jackson

:)

edit: Oh, you said QB.
then

Signed, John Elway

Since that guy looks like Russell Wilson, I'm going to assume he was being sarcastic.

No successful modern day QB (at least since 1980) has played professional baseball once they entered the NFL.

Russell Wilson among several NFLers who also played baseball professionally

Wilson is just the latest of more than a dozen NFL players since 1980 who also have played pro baseball. Among the notables:

John Elway hit an impressive .318 with four home runs, 13 stolen bases, 26 runs and 25 RBIs in 42 games for the Yankees Class A Oneonta team in 1981. He gave up baseball to play in the NFL and crush the hopes of Cleveland Browns fans rather than those of Cleveland Indians fans. George Steinbrenner probably referred to him as "Mr. January.".......................

....................[Wilson:] "I always wanted to be like Deion and Bo," Wilson says. "I wanted to do that two-sport thing. But playing quarterback is a little different than playing running back or defensive back. It takes more time."

"I've always had that dream of playing two sports. That's never really faded away from me, but at the same time, I love my job so much I wouldn't change anything."

Jaworski on Jameis: A lot of on-field flaws, I wouldn’t take him No. 1

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 4, 2015, 4:00 PM EST

Ron Jaworski has some advice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they consider picking Jameis Winston with the first overall pick in the NFL draft: Don’t do it.

Jaworski said on Mike & Mike that he simply doesn’t think Winston is a good enough passer to make him worth going No. 1 overall.

“I’ve studied a lot of him, I think Jameis Winston has a big upside in the NFL, but there are some real flaws to his game,” Jaworski said. “Quite honestly, I would not take him at that No. 1 pick.”

Winston has had off-field troubles as serious as a rape accusation, as trivial as shoplifting and as stupid as getting suspended for screaming obscenities on the Florida State campus. But Jaworski made clear that his problems with Winston are about the way he plays the quarterback position.

“I’m not talking about the off-the-field stuff. I have no comment on that because I’m not privy to that kind of information. But there are certainly mechanical flaws in his game that are troubling to me,” Jaworski said.

From all indications, the Buccaneers are leaning toward taking Winston first overall, but their evaluations aren’t over. Jaworski thinks that the more they look at Winston’s film, the more flaws they’ll find.

I've been saying it all year, he's not as good as people think. Now don't get me wrong, he is definitely talented. But all this "pro ready" talk is extremely overstated. He led all power conference QB's in INT's this year and that's despite being suspended for a game. He has questionable decision making and maturity both on and off the field.

Having the thought that this bastard is guilty of the accusation of rape & will be drafted by an NFL franchise and live life on easy street , at least until he blows thru those millions makes me ill.
This is just my opinion and in general I'm one that believes one is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law but somehow this case is different .... I think he should be taken out and horsewhipped within an inch of his life rather than living the good life as an NFL quarterback.

No way I could root for this dude if he was the quarterback of the Texans.

I never went to college, so I have no idea what college life is like. But I remember when I was in highschool, rape was looked at completely different than what "The Hunting Grounds" says. I remember you were guilty until proven innocent & that caused me to be extra careful around intoxicated women.

I wouldn't have an issue rooting for Jameis Winston or Tampa Bay, if I were inclined to do such things, mainly because I imagine (right or wrong) at least one other "victim" would have came forward.

That's not to say I believe he's innocent, but I agree with the prosecutor, that there isn't enough evidence to support a charge.

If he's ever accused again, then I'd expect whatever NFL team he goes to, to drop him.

Why is this case any different?

Looks like Winston has put lots of work on his "tight" body for Pro Day. Can't blame the support belt.........unless that's super duper strong elastics in his Jockeys.:toropalm:

I think Winston is going to really benefit from having mike Evans if Tampa takes him. Tampa just needs to have a real offense.

I really like Winston as a qb. Dude is legit.

The more I look Winston, the comp I come up with is Jay Cutler. Good arm (not as good as Cutler's coming out). Can make all the throws. But will make a throw that makes you say "WTF?". Regardless of what the TV Draftniks say, Winston needs a lot of coaching up.

Which makes the argument that Winston is more "pro ready" ridiculous. Both guys need coaching before they're ready to carry a team. If that's the case, I would rather have Mariota, who has more upside. And is a safer pick from a makeup standpoint.

There's lot of speculation regarding how far Mariota could drop. Maybe even an Aaron Rodgers-like fall. Well, what if Tampa Bay passes on Winston? I don't know if there are a lot of teams below the Bucs that have fully vetted Jamies. And I've heard that the majority of teams prefer Marcus to Jamies. If the Bucs get cold feet, Winston could be chilling out in the green room for awhile.

I like Winston more. Every player needs coaching up. Some need more than others. I like them both, but I think Winston is more likely to become a franchise qb. Jmo.

MSR. I'm right with you on this. I actually think Winston's absolute ceiling is to end up as a similar player to Cutler.

I'll take the comparison even further, because I was actually taking this stance in a conversation I had with someone yesterday.

Both are known to have rocket launchers for arms. Cutler's was stronger as a prospect, but Winston's is easily more than strong enough.

They are both easily capable of making every throw, but neither does so routinely. They both miss throws in the same exact way. They either miss high because they overthrow or lack touch, or they force the ball into a place it shouldn't go because they are overconfident or misread coverage.

Both are given excessive credit for their football IQ, to a degree that they don't deserve. Obviously nobody says this about Cutler now, but he was praised for his intelligence coming out of college. But he didn't really demonstrate that on the field. People just assumed he must be intelligent because he went to Vanderbilt. Winston's case is similar. He might be good on a whiteboard, but all that goes out the window when he's on the field. He makes rash, dangerous decisions on impulse, which is probably what most people would say about Cutler now.

i think a lot of those WTF throws has a lot to do with the anticipation & tight throws we've seen from Jamies that remain an unknown for Mariota. Once Mariota has to start makimg those types of throws against NFL competition we may see how much more coachimg he needs. To me, it's a big question mark for Mariota.

Erica Kinsman sues NFL prospect Jameis Winston

Former Florida State star quarterback Jameis Winston has been sued over a December 2012 sexual assault allegation.

Zephyrhills' Erica Kinsman filed a lawsuit Thursday in the Circuit Court of the Ninth Judicial District over claims of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and "intentional infliction of emotional distress arising out of forcible rape."

Kinsman's attorney, John Clune, released the following statement...
http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bucs/erica-kinsman-sues-nfl-prospect-jameis-winston/2225851

The suit seeks damages in excess of $15,000.

Probably defines which court it's in, like small claims court here.

That makes sense or else she'd have a problem finding a lawyer to take the case. They don't work for peanuts.

I think he did it .... I hope she gets everything the bastard ever earns in the NFL & thru endorsements.

I heard about that earlier in the day.
Matters not. It's all about how he plays from now on.

who's the cutie?

I think that's the owner of those crab legs Jamies is eating.

NFLN/Rich Eisen just said those crab legs were donated by the skipper of the boat featured on "Deadliest Catch" because Winston participated in some charity thing he was sponsoring.

I think it was a joke that'll fire up the Bucs faithful with a lot of "hurr hurr" humor from people who would have bought his jersey and defended his every transgression anyway. So no impact there.

Conversely, it will fire up all those who are obsessive haters of the Tampa Bay football franchise. Except nobody else cares about the Tampa Bay football franchise. Again, no impact.

Yep. Matters not.

I hope he's a total bust and that he's out of the league before the year is out.

Sorry Buc's fans .... You guys don't deserve that but he does.

Damn some of y'all sure are guilty before proven innocent.

Yup, not really all that surprising though is it? Seems it's human nature to take a position prior to gathering all the facts and then defending that position regardless of what facts arise. No point in arguing with them.

Well, you know, they COULD OF and SHOULD OF charged him, of course.

I know nothing of the sort. But I do know it takes nothing to falsely accuse someone who is completely innocent. It seems like you can't simply confess ignorance these days. You have to choose sides based on the seriousness of the charges without any clue to the facts to be PC.

that isn't remotely amusing.

was he charged or convicted?

Court of public opinion .... (at least for some).

I believe he did it and that the university , cops & courts made it go away ....

I don't base that off of evidence but the fact that he's proved he's prone to doing stupid sh!t. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he had other victims at some point in the future.

I had to poke a little fun at this post as I had just read it prior to coming into this thread

As I was watching the draft these are the guys I wanted at our picks. I would not have traded up either time.

(16) Brown, Malcom DT Texas
I'm perfectly happy with Johnson, Kevin CB 6'0" 188 Wake Forest
but I would of taken Brown, Malcom DT Texas

(51) Odighizuwa, Owamagbe DE UCLA

traded- 51, 116 and 195 for 43 and 229
McKinney, Benardrick ILB 6'4" 246 Mississippi St.
Not happy with this pick at all. If he is going to play outside I'm not as upset but if he is starting inside our scouts need to be fired. Still if he is moving outside we could of had Odighizuwa, Owamagbe DE UCLA or Orchard, Nate DE Utah without giving up our 4th round pick to get him. If we wanted an inside LB we should of drafted Perryman @ 43.

@ 43 I would of drafted Perryman, actually I would not have moved up to 43. I would of stayed put and taken Odighizuwa, Owamagbe DE UCLA, @51

(82) Clemmings, T.J. OT 6'5" 309 Pittsburgh
Just too good to pass up this late.
(116) Mason, Shaq C 6'1" 300 Georgia Tech
Really feel this guy would come in and start at C right away. He plays with a nasty mean streak.
(152) Emanuel, Kyle OLB 6'3" 255 North Dakota St
Can play inside or out. Versatile player with great hustle that would contribute imediatly on special teams.
(175) Cody Prewitt, 6’2 1/8, 212 pounds, S, Ole Miss
Like him more than Swag.
(195) Waller, Darren WR 6'6" 238 Georgia Tech
He would be put in the weight room and would be lining up at TE.

(216) La’el Collins, 6’4 5/8, 308 pounds, OT, LSU
Would offer him third round money and see if he bites. If not we lost nothing.
(235) Ekpre-Olomu, Ifo CB 5'9" 192 Oregon
Good slot corner.

So who would you have picked?

I guess just sloppy and "couldn't care less?"

Yep couldn't care less. The guy tweeted out a pic of crab legs right after getting drafted. He's a punk POS and if you want ride his jock thats your problem. I will enjoy watching him crash and burn just like Manziel did.

And for your information I have read many articles on the subject and have came to the conclusion that even if he didn't drug her, he still took advantage of her while she was messed up. Bet if you weren't a seminole fan and blinded by your loyalty to that joke of a college you wouldn't be so oblivious to the obvious.

You're entitled to your opinion obviously. I have no interest in arguing about it again. You should, however, not call an entire university a joke when you've yet to master the use of "should have." Also, its "have come to the conclusion," or "I came to the conclusion," not "I have came to the conclusion."

I'm not a Florida fan. Never thought we would or could get Winston. Your certainly on this is baffling to me.
