Cooks and #32 for Carr.

That salary cap is attached to a guy - arguably the best player we have on either side of the ball right now. Not sure I am in favor of addition by subtraction at such an important position. That said, I do have some worry that once he gets paid, he'll loaf again. But this past season, he played very well so recent play is indicative of a long-term extension. You're not finding another guy of that caliber easily. They don't grow on trees.
I'd see if they would take a straight up trade first. Since everyone knows Carr is done in Vegas, I'm not sure any other teams would be willing to trade for him. They might all wait to see if he is cut first.Cooks and #32 for Carr.

Aren't Carr's and Cooks's contracts similar? Carr did want to be drafted by Houston coming out of college. With DeMeco here, he may want to come back to Houston. Carr did play football in Houston up through his Junior year in High School, before his family moved back to California for his Senior year. It’s not that teams wouldn’t mind Carr, or the idea of trading to secure him versus competing for his services as a FA……it’s the contract that a team would inherit by trading for him that’s just about guaranteed him being released 3 days before the season ends.
By the way, I see the 49’ers as big players for Carr services. Might be tough for the Texans to compete at this juncture.

Cooks contract ends next yr.
I believe Carr has 3 yrs on his contract.
Watch he become a Saint.Carr for 40m, no thanks. Teams interested need to get him re-do his contract.
I bet it happens and I bet the Saints don't have to give up more than a 3rd to make it happen.Watch he become a Saint.
I’m sure no team feels good about paying him $40M at this stage in his career but they may have to sign him, then restructure him. He’s a good QB that still has at least 4 years of high level play left in him. That will give our QB of the future time to sit and learn, like Aaron Rodgers was able to behind Favre. That way If Carr falls off a cliff sooner than expected, our young QB can then start instead of just being thrown to the wolves.Carr for 40m, no thanks. I don't understand the Carr love.
Other than one 12-4 season, he's averaged a fraction over 6 wins a year for the rest of his career. We got that in Mills, and for a lot cheaper at that!
Man Mills is trash lolI don't understand the Carr love.

Carr is a substantial upgrade over Mills and has that fire in his belly that Mills lacks.I don't understand the Carr love.

With upgraded talent and a better coaching staff, along with an easier schedule you don't think Mills can win 6 games next year?Man Mills is trash lol
Unfortunately, Bill O'Brien is not a GM for one of the other 31 teams. Not happening. If I could get 2 #1s for him
That's not how it works, though. It's about leverage. The Texans have to get his cap number down. Laremy wants to be extended. He's not helping without that market setting extension. So as far as the Texans are concerned, Tunsil is the #1 LT.Before Tunsil can set the market for LT’s in the NFL….he should be the consensus #1 LT.
I've got no problem with giving a top 3 LT the money he wants. Plus according to Troy Chapman you can create another 11 mil on the Cap by extending him.Unfortunately, Bill O'Brien is not a GM for one of the other 31 teams. Not happening.

Tunsil will be extended on a market setting contract. Everyone needs to make peace with that.Wanna sign Ebukan/Bradbury and Ward? Do this and you've got the cap room to do it.
I'm at peace with it. In 2 years it won't be a market setting deal.Tunsil will be extended on a market setting contract. Everyone needs to make peace with that.

What is it around these parts that Texans fans don't want to pay top of the line players? This just in, if Caserio doesn't pay Tunsil somebody else will and he wants to be here.
The goal may be to tank another year..Do we? Mills doesn’t have 6 wins in 2 years.
While showing some progress..The goal may be to tank another year..
If this is the case, they should have stuck with the Lovie/Pep/Mills trio. The goal may be to tank another year..
The same with Texans fans wanting or only expecting to win 6 games with an atrocious quarterback.I'm at peace with it. In 2 years it won't be a market setting deal.

Well, it doesn't show up in wins and losses. And I'm talking about an 9 year sampling (other than the one season) and he'sCarr is a substantial upgrade over Mills and has that fire in his belly that Mills lacks.
Carr won 3 games his 1st year, 7 in his 2nd year, averaged 5 wins per season over his first two. That with a much better team and coaches around him.Do we? Mills doesn’t have 6 wins in 2 years.
Nice preemptive slam of posters that may criticize Caserio. I guess this is not a good time to point out that it was Caserio's relentless restructuring that gave Tunsil the leverage for a market setting deal.Yep.
And then the usual 'wanna-be's without clue', will lambaste Caserio, no matter what he does.

They've won 4 with him the last 2 years. They should be adding talent in the draft and especially fa next year. Plus they have an easier schedule, so I don't think it's our of the question for them to win at least 6 games next year, especially with a less conservative offense and better coaching. In fact I think with less conservative coaching last year they could have won 6 games despite having a terrible skill position groups and a porous run defense against a much tougher schedule than they will face this weekend. The same with Texans fans wanting or only expecting to win 6 games with an atrocious quarterback.
Not true, I expect them to win around 6-7 games next year depending on how the draft/fa goes. Whether they draft a QB or not this yr. Drafting a QB in this yrs draft will not speed up the timeline regardless of whether we want it to or not. IMHO of course we view this QB class though totally different lenses. The same with Texans fans wanting or only expecting to win 6 games with an atrocious quarterback.
Rightfully so since he's currently a top 3 LT. I've got no problem with paying a 28 yr old LT this money. Caserio is apparently about keeping and paying top tier money for all pro players vs the penny pinching that many around these parts want. It's not like Caserio didn't cleanup the cap in 2 years so he could make these types of moves and become players in the higher end fa market.Nice preemptive slam of posters that may criticize Caserio. I guess this is not a good time to point out that it was Caserio's relentless restructuring that gave Tunsil the leverage for a market setting deal.
Don’t know how many games they will win next season. Highly doubt Mills will be starting. They've won 4 with him the last 2 years. Tell me
1. How many games do you think the Texans will win next year with Mills at QB knowing what I said above? Not saying I don't want Caserio to bring in a guy like Minshew in FA.
How long do you think it will be before the Texans become contenders whether the Texans they draft a QB in this weak QB class or if they wait to draft a QB in the stronger 2024 QB draft.
He isn't happy in Oakland.Well, it doesn't show up in wins and losses. And I'm talking about an 9 year sampling (other than the one season) and he's
had much better coaching and players around him throughout his career that Mills has ever had. So this "fire in his belly" business, I
don't buy it, the numbers don't prove it out. JMO

Caserio's relentless restructuring assured we would have the resources to retain our starting pro bowl LT.
Nice try though.

That was almost 20 years ago. Nobody is drafting a qb high and have him on the bench for 3 years like Rodgers or Rivers. Thing is, Favre was still playing at a high level and so was Brees. I think teams are going to wait for him to get cut or they're going to have to negotiate his contract down now.I’m sure no team feels good about paying him $40M at this stage in his career but they may have to sign him, then restructure him. He’s a good QB that still has at least 4 years of high level play left in him. That will give our QB of the future time to sit and learn, like Aaron Rodgers was able to behind Favre. I'm not saying I want Mills as the starter, I do want a vet brought in to compete with him. I'm also saying last year for many reasons he didn't stand a fair chance to succeed.Don’t know how many games they will win next season. Highly doubt Mills will be starting.
Let Ryans and company work before making any type of predictions. We still have a draft ahead of us and we don’t even know who they will bring in free agency. Wait we haven’t even hired the man’s coaching staff.
What I do know Steel is Mills is a terrible quarterback right now. I’ve seen enough film on him.
Trouble is, if you want to bring a vet in, will he want to come in if he is not going to be the starter?I'm not saying I want Mills as the starter, I do want a vet brought in to compete with him. I'm also saying last year for many reasons he didn't stand a fair chance to succeed.
If Mills is as bad as you say and they bring in say, Minshew and avg vet QB and add talent in the draft/fa then they should win atleast 6 games with an easier schedule right?
You let Mills and the vet compete for the job. May the best man win. After this season then you draft a QB in 2024 if you don't like what you see in 2023.Trouble is, if you want to bring a vet in, will he want to come in if he is not going to be the starter?
And if he does come in, if he is competing with Mills, why would he share his knowledge with him? He needs a mentor.
What do you think you are talking about? Please do the math on this. You may have to break out the slide rule.
So you're not going to explain how restructuring Tunsil twice made it easier for the Texans to re-sign him?Slide rule?Did you really make your assumptions using a slide rule?
I think we are getting close to solving this.

So you're not going to explain how restructuring Tunsil twice made it easier for the Texans to re-sign him?
That's what I thought.
I wouldn't draft a QB until the later rounds if I brought in a vet. He isn't really going to threaten the vet.You let My lls and the vet compete for the job. May the best man win. After this season then you draft a QB in 2024 if you don't like what you see in 2023.
BTW, wouldn't your post apply if they drafted a QB this year and added a vet QB?
Unless that vet plays like Matt Ryan did last year.He isn't really going to threaten the vet.
New Orleans over $60 million over the cap... it is going to take a lot more than reworking Carr's contract.Watch he become a Saint.
