You are GM of the Texans for the next 4 months

Tend to agree. Pick #2 is too valuable with the talent on offer there - you have the opportunity to draft a game changer there.

I would explore possibilities of trading down at 1-2.

What I really would be looking to do is trade down from 1-12.

I'm really looking to load up in the 2024 draft.

And Mario Williams dominated in college. He had 14.5 sacks and 24 TFL his junior year. Williams had the credentials and the combine numbers to go #1.
Yep. That's my problem with Carter as well as Walker. Lets take 2 non hof guys guys like Gerald McCoy and Suh. They were dominant in college despite the scheme or whatever excuse people want to use.

Nothing when I watch Carter playing tells me he can reach these guys level. We didn't even get to the true hall of fame guys either. We're talking pro bowl and all pro levels. If you take a dl that high, he has to be all pro level consistently. Hell Suh was in the Heisman race, he finished 4th. I'm not feeling Carter at all. Its not even the sacks, look at his tfl's.

Many of those plays he gets brought down right after catching the ball. No chance to break tackles. You're looking for reasons to not like him. What I saw was a guy making plays.
Dbs tackling a te in college isn't supposed to be the way. Musgrave is cool, but he doesn't have wiggle or rac.

He's my #1 guy because he's got the speed to get open and he's a good blocking TE. Who would you compare him too in today's NFL. I'm thinking Darren Waller or Njoku.

Didn't see Waller in college, don't know how many people saw him with his issues. I liked Njoku coming out because he had wr type skills. Musgrave doesn't compare to either in my opinion. I'm going to watch him more

I don’t think it’s silly at all. What’s silly is actually believing that Bryce Young is the savior of the franchise when there are more homes to fill in the current roster than the streets in River Oaks. The QBs are all interchangeable in this year’s draft.
Did the post I quoted mention Bryce Young? What I said was it was silly to believe the Texans would trade out of the first round altogether. With both 1st round picks. It's ridiculous.

Bijan better blanket, huge stats and good blocking; blew up PFF records on tackles broken. Great RB with great hands as WR. He knows how to get to end zone. Can remain on field either position.

Get both!
My question is for the season we expect in 2023, is TE a high priority this draft?
if we’re drafting a QB then yes.

who?who are these game changers you speak of?

Couldn’t that be debated based on how the draft is falling?

For the record I never suggested trading out of the 1st rd with both picks.

If I could trade pick 1-12 for a loe 1st/ high 2nd and a 2024 1st I would do it.

From what I have seen, Musgrave isn't a great blocker. Right now we have Brevin Jordan, Teagan Quitoriano, and Mason Schreck. I expect the Texans to bring back Akins. Schreck got to play in a couple games, and didn't look too bad. With another offseason, I think he will be as good if not better than Musgrave.
I wonder how long Jordan will be around. I have not been impressed with him at all.. I like Akins and hope Q can stay healthy for a full season..

What other QB’s besides Willams and Maye will you be watching as possibilities in 24 if we don’t select a keeper this year. Penix? Any others?

McCarthy from Michigan is a guy I like alot. He's the kind of QB Ryans was describing in his press conference.

I like Will Rodgers a lot too.

If Ewers improves, I would look at him.

It's a deep QB class

The guys in a true wco know where and how to find te's. None are taken in 1st rd either for the most part. Go look at Shanny,Kubes,Andy Reid in both Philly and KC. Gruden, Lil Shanny, go down the line.

The only reason for this is Kelce was coming off of ijury and there were character concerns which made him Not Texans Worthy. He was the most athletic TE coming out of his class.

Kittle fell due to injury and they've gotten lucky he's stayed relatively healthy. He also was amongst the most athletically gifted TE's in his class.

Go back and checkout these guys combine numbers.

Also checkout the mock I put out and the TE I selected for the Texans. I didn't know much about him until the Sr. Bowl, but he really impressed me. I think he's going to put up great numbers at the combine and due to injury and the depth of the TE class fall to the 4th/5th rd like Kittle did.

Shannon Sharpe, Owen Daniels, Goddert, Lewis, Ertz, the list goes on. Most of those wco guys off that tree know where to find te's.

yeah they should definitely grab a T.E somewhere in the draft

Is Gesicki worth kicking the tires on?’
If he wasn’t a fit for Mike Mcdaniel he’s not going to be a fit in the likely offense the Texans will run.
Mike Gesicki won't block. He's not a physical player. His other coaches have put up with him, but McDaniel gave Gesicki less than 50% of the snaps. 3rd down and red zone targets.

Gesicki was the "most athletic" TE out of a very good TE class. Andrews, Goedert, Schultz, Hurst. But in 5 years and over 200 receptions, Gesicki has broken 3 tackles. For a TE, that's ridiculous. A guy that's basically the same size, Travis Kelce, broke 13 tackles this season. You don't have to play at an All Pro level level like Kelce. But you have to show some physicality to play TE in the NFL.

I really liked what I saw from Purdue TE Payne Durham during the Senior Bowl. He showed that he can play FB, Blocking TE, and Receiving TE. He looked much better in this game that the higher rated Musgrave. I'm sure Durham has raised his stock, but he still might be available on Day 3. With his versatility, he'd be a good pickup, and since we have so many other needs to fill with the earlier picks, we wouldn't have to waste a high pick on a position of low need.

I wasn’t impressed with Gesicki in the playoff game vs Buffalo. He had some dropped passes that had he caught them it would have been harder for Buffalo to advance.

He doesn’t seem to be a strong effort type of player.

So.. Ryans and his choice of coaching offense gets us excited because they will significantly improve players..
Except for tight ends?

Probably cause the Texans and fans forgot they are a position you can use for stuff.

Unlike book ends... that just sit there.... I don't advise throwing anything to them.... doesn't end well....

Thos guy reminds me of O.D.

Gesicki didn't work for the Dolphins offense which is essentially the 49ers offense. Assuming the rumored hire, not seeing the fit for Gesicki.

Yeah, we do need to protect Derrick Carr.

No thanks on Carr or Jimmy G. I'm seeing somewhere around 25-30 mil per yr for either. That's going to severely restrict what you can do elsewhere. I'm also not convinced they want to be someone's placeholder.

Give me Young or Stroud, and if you want a vet to give you some starts early on, I'm ok with that, but not one of the above. Give me a Gardner Minschew that can be a poor man's Jimmy G and do well enough as a caretaker/mentor and will know his role. Or a bit of a level up, go for Jacoby Brissett. Still won't break the bank.

If I could get 2 #1s for him, he and his 15%+ of the salary cap would be gone.
Interesting, but you use one of the 1sts on Paris Johnson. Guy has a huge wingspan and giant hands. And a rookie contract. Very smart and athletic. Be nice to pair him with Stroud for chemistry.

That salary cap is attached to a guy - arguably the best player we have on either side of the ball right now. Not sure I am in favor of addition by subtraction at such an important position. That said, I do have some worry that once he gets paid, he'll loaf again. But this past season, he played very well so recent play is indicative of a long-term extension. You're not finding another guy of that caliber easily. They don't grow on trees.

Just for shits and giggles - using your Tunsil trade, we draft Stroud QB, Paris Johnson LT , Dawand Jones RT/G and Luke Wypler C - see my final comment.
Our Oline looks like this:- Johnson Ohio St, Green, Wypler OS, Jones OS, Howard.
Instant chemistry between QB OS and Oline.

This past year was a contract year, and his improved play was expected. If he doesn't get paid this year, he walks next year.

There won't be any loafing under Ryans.

There won't be any loafing under Ryans.

That's my hope. Between a better coach instilling a hustle and work ethic mindset, a better overall roster with more hustle players, and a more positive team outlook on the future (and present) that a guy like Tunsil will pick it up a notch or two. He's never going to be JJ Watt in the attitude/effort area, but I do think there's a good chance he'll be a much better version of himself.

If I am GM, I'm willing to take that risk and I'm signing him to a high $$$ extension that will keep him anchoring the LT spot for the next 5 years (give or take).

LT- Trent Williams (SF) #1
LT- Christian Darrisaw (Vikings) #2
LT- Andrew Thomas (Giants) #3
LT- Kolton Miller (Raiders) #4
LT- Laremy Tunsil (Texans) #5

Before Tunsil can set the market for LT’s in the NFL….he should be the consensus #1 LT. Tunsil is a very good LT, but he’s at his best pass blocking, not his best at run blocking, and his absolute worst at ill-timed penalties. If Tunsil were to return (2) RD1 and a RD3 picks, it might be hard to ignore the return.
