Will Texans be a buyer at NFL trade deadline?

He's still better than Hyder or whoever else they've got. BTW, he contributed to a SB winner 2 or 3 yrs ago. He's a better stop gap than what they currently have. BTW, I hope they bring Hunter home using a 2nd rd pick and extend him. Hunter/WA and add a guy like Wilkins to go with Collins. That's a front 4 that can compete with anybody.
Yes but I am ready to stop getting players that are just better than what we have.

I get this, but this is just for this season only and he's been a play maker most of his career. I know you like Surtain and if you told me I could add Surtain and Clark for a 1st and extend Surtain, then I would be all on board with these moves. Like I said a trade for Hunter and an extension is the way I would go.

Danielle Hunter seems like no brainer so we probably aren't interested.

I get the thoughts, but do we really want to give up any draft capital? It's not like we are one or two players away, there is no one up for trade (that I see anyway) that makes us a substantially better team this year.

This offseason we won't be spending half, or more, of it searching for a coach so hit free agency hard, draft good fits for our O and D systems, and see where we are next year with our young players getting experience throughout this year.

Trade Mills?

Baby steps bb.
We're still rebuilding and cap space is an issue.
Build a better team and better players will want to come here and new guys bring new skills to teach and emulate. It also allows NC to cast off the deadwood.
In the meantime, your rookies and young guns are gaining valuable experience.

I could see Caserio making a minor move like trading for a speedy wr like Kendrick Bourne.

I don't know about the money, but Mecole Hardman is a guy that's available and has the speed that could be a difference maker for this offense.

He's also an upgrade as a KR/PR.

I know it's not what people would want but I really hope not.

We need to build the team properly and with cheap contracts. Losing draft capital to make a push on a season that we're not actually vying for a championship isn't very smart imo.

While we need a WR1, front 7 help is badly needed. Imagine how much better the secondary could be if the defensive front actually put pressure on opposing QBs?
They are though...

At quite a high rate as well. Teams are game planning with very quick passing to counteract it.

Are people just looking at sack totals when they say this or what?

Agree about the front 7 help though.

I liked MH from the get go. Had him on my wish list for Houston.

Gotta find a way. Or maybe or make him hold the ball longer.
Easier said than done. I'm sure opposing teams would love to do the same with CJ, but when the gameplan is get the ball out fast usually the ball gets out fast.

That said it's also a bit of a if it's broke don't fix it. The pressure is causing opposing QBs to not get sacked but we've seen a lot of interceptable balls thrown the past few weeks.

yup, hard to get to the QB in less than 2.5 seconds.
Sacks are good in that they waste a down and put the offense back behind the line of scrimmage, but are most effective on 3rd down.
1st down, not so much. Yeah, puts more pressure on the QB, but a good QB can overcome it on 1st or even 2nd. 3rd down, the coach is in a bind unless he is still inside the 5 and has a good QB.

Not true. Derek Carr had all the time that he needed to let plays develop this past Sunday. I witnessed our defense get blocked by the Saints back up LT and RT for damn near the entire game.

Trevor Penning was so hilariously bad at blocking it was comical. I can't understand how you could say with a straight face he was blocking us up. Carr consistently had players in his face and consistently had to take checkdowns. The throwing times have also been posted in another thread and they're sub 3 seconds.

This is all just fact.

It’s true on both fronts. Carr was getting the ball out quick a lot of the times. Sometimes the 4 man rush wasn’t getting there, so he was able to go through his progressions. And finally we did generate some pressure in which caused incompletions and a few bad decisions.

Unlike Surtain?
Yes, both will cost pics/players but Surtain is on ridiculously cheap contract thru 2024 and then 5th year option which would be reduced by an extension. I would be stunned if Caserio is not planning an offer or already submitted one. I think he has let other teams know of Texans interest in several players but will keep his cards (final package) close to his vest as he did with Az and the trade for Anderson.
Nick is a trade maker in my image.. lol

Unless somebody is just giving away the shop for next to nothing I kinda hope we don't get active at the trade deadline. I don't want to see them giving up picks just when it's starting to look like they actually know how to make decent picks. Also as has already been pointed out repeatedly we need those rookie contracts and not more big veteran deals.

One thing I might think was worth doing was if somebody came calling for Mills or (and don't hate me) Pierce I'd consider it. Singletary has a much better feel for this system. Pierce is a battering ram. Singletary has that plant your foot, cut, and go game down. He isn't Arian Foster but he's not running into his blockers all the time. If real value was offered I'd consider letting Pierce go for it.

I'd be fine if they do. Fine if they don't.

It's hard to tell when lightning is going to strike. But if you were to argue this could be a Super Bowl team with Jerry Jeudy, I'm not going to disagree.

However, if it doesn't work out I feel free to renounce ever agreeing to such a cokameinee idea.

I saw a suggestion for Packers to offer one of their twos and their round three in 2025. That's too expensive for me. I think he could be our WR1 at minimum but too unsure if his lackluster efforts and mouth was all on coaching. I would take a risk but more like one of our round 4s.

This team is a lot further from the SB than a "key player or two". This team just isn't fully built yet for the long haul in the playoffs, so I'm not seeing an urgent need for any free agent if they are going to be "costly". Unless it's added protection for Stroud, and I can see that.

I’d be ok with a blocking trade. Anyone who shores up our blocking anywhere gets a thumbs up from me. We need it everywhere including WR and RB.

I would like to see Caserio raid some teams practice squad for a promising young RB that fits what Slowick wants to do. See if he can hit lightening in a bottle again

I would give up a 7th for a RB like Patterson. Guys a differencemaker on a cheap contract.

Do a deal like the Chiefs did for Hardman.

Hardman and a 2024 7th for a 2025 6th.

I’m still on the Jerry Jeudy train. I don’t care what Steve Smith thinks. Jeudy has talent. I think he could ball in Slowick’s version of the WCO and be a great pairing with Nico. He’s my #1 target, and I think he could be had for a reasonable draft pick…I’d offer a 4th.

Hardeman was traded back to the Chiefs today.

I had to circle back to this because of how wrong I felt it was and because NFL media has now had time to digest the Texans game and a common theme that came up was how much our defense got pressure on Carr.

Here's former player Beau Allen breaking down how good our pass rush was against the Saints for Chris Long's podcast:

Here's Bryan Baldinger talking about how much he liked Will Anderson in the game:

That's not all either. Saints media and fan channels are on fire with how much our d-line cooked their o-line.

Just another thought to add to this, I would give the guys already on the roster a chance to blossom under DR's coaching.
You just might unearth an unexpected gem.

Good stuff Sweech. Ryan will have these boys completely ready by week 8. Meaning top 5.
Man if only we were at least 90% healthy. Them boys would be serious out there.

We will get to see Brian Burns Panthers up close. 6'5 250 25 years old. He would sure look good opposite Will Anderson. Of course he's going to want a huge extension yet we have the money to accomplish that.

Would our round 2 in 2024 + Greenard + round 2 in 2026 convince Carolina? They turned down two firsts and a second last year and I think that's off table. Probably demand a 1st as beginning point.

TBH, I am leaning towards going draft only projection. The issue for me: we are looking to be closer to playoffs this season than most thought. Do we settle or does Nick go full G I Joe? Is it time to move on from 1-2 year contracts hoping to squeeze a bit of success from them?

Which way did they go George? Which way did they go?

I'm not giving up the draft compensation AND the extension it would take to trade for Burns. Next offseason I would be all for bringing in a guy like Burns in FA. They've got the money to spend and obviously with them bringing in Hyder/Sanders they think Edge is still a need even after drafting WA.

Starting at 7:29 they go over two run plays & go over how the QB messes up these run plays. I think it's something we need to watch. Not necessarily to pick on Stroud, but it's a reality of the game. I solemnly believe Watson & Mills screwed up a lot of run plays.

It's a coaching thing that maybe the coaches aren't going over.

Maybe the coaches are going over this and this is part of the rookie learning curve. As good as Stroud's been there's still stuff like this that's part of the learning curve.
