Lance only has 2 years, and an option left on his contract. A 1st rounder has a max of 5 years. Would give the Niners the 2023 2nd, and maybe a conditional future 3rd based upon playing time. But that's only with a new, QB-centric coaching staff.spitballing i.e. not even a rumor article

I think Pep as the OC made a big difference too...in a negative way.
Lance is much more talented than Hooker. Or any other QB in this draft, TBH. Still, a coaching staff has to get that talent out of him. It's a gamble, but not as risky as a #1 overall pick. As it sits now, I would just take Young. But trading for Lance would be my 2nd choice.

Fair enough as he has been brought up to speed for the NFL but would you elevate him to Texans starter Game 1 2023?
Tell us a bit more about him - why you would do it.
The Niners don't have a pick until the late 3rd round. If they are comfortable with Brock Purdy, or have eyes on Brady as a FA, I could see them moving on from Lance. But it's a long shot.
I would do it because he has shown enough tools to justify that investment. A 2nd round pick would not preclude a future 1st round investment in a QB, if Lance fails to show promise.
All of that is based upon a new staff.

Trey Lance was the 3rd pick of the 2021 draft.
He sat a year to learn. Understandable.
2022 he was supposed to be a starter. He got hurt.
The 49ers swapped 2021 1st round picks, gave up a 3rd in the 2021, and gave up a first in 2022. (I think).
If that isn’t a bust to give up that draft capital and not have a player contribute in their first two years what do you call that? On the verge of being a bust?
People bust Caserio’s balls for his 2021 draft and his 2022 draft selections. Not naming names…
If Caserio made this deal to have him not contribute people would want to run the guy out of town.
Not naming names, but coaches with strong pedigrees that have been in effective NFL offenses.
To toss one name out there, Joe Brady as OC.

Yeah we desperately need some decent coaching talent in that locker room. I had high hopes for Lovie and he hasn't exactly had a good team to work with but we need some excitement at Kirby. In Lovies defense, he did a great job with ours - IMHO.
I would like to see Eric Bienemy in here.

No thanks. I'll pass. I'm good with going with Mills for another year if we can get a vet to challenge him. Interestingly enough, I'd be good with Drafting Rattler, and I was vehemently opposed to drafting him before. The difference is that Rattler can probably be had in the 5th or 6th round now versus the 1st round as was suggested last season. I'm also high on taking a flyer on Duggan in the 5th or 6th round. So either of those two, along with Mills and a decent vet for competition, and I'm good with waiting until 2024 to get Williams or Maye. Of course, all of this depends on cutting ties with Lovie and Pep.spitballing i.e. not even a rumor article

So the Raiders are moving on from Derek Carr. Seems like you could do worse than him as a veteran bridge QB, and he seems like a player with an outside shot of outplaying that status.
To me, this seems like a team that could stabilise with a known quantity under Center, not requiring a coach to temper their O scheme while they learn the ropes, allow the team to draft a project QB later on who can sit and learn but most of all build out the other talent and move towards a solid roster before you do throw a rookie out there.
Who knows how each potential name would play out, but it seems to me to be the way to go.

I could see the 49’ers taking a close look at Carr….as could the Colts if they come up empty on draft day. I believe the 49’ers and Shanahan have the right offense for Carr. They could make a play for WR, Devante Adams if they wanted to keep them as a pair.

I would love for us to get into Shanahan’s tree to build out our next coaching staff. Always seems a shame that we missed the boat on him I guess it was a little early when we moved on from Kubiak.
Someone floated the idea of Demeco as HC with a Shanny assistant as OC.
Carr will be off the market well before the draft.

I can see him in Washington. They have some players, especially on defense. They have some weapons also. He's not going to break the bank, but I see him going to a good situation for him vs highest bidder.

Washington is not a bad spot, they have players on both sides of the ball. I don't know how they view Sam Howell, but Carr could be a good answer for them for a few years.

Ok, maybe he is 185. But, that was not the point. The point is that he is a small guy who very well could get destroyed in the NFL. He isn't big boned with a thick lower body like Wilson. And I really don't even care about that. I care about the risks of a smaller QB that most people didn't know who they were prior to the season. Plus, you have 2 similar QBs of his size and legit clones almost of his scouting report...Murry who is not starting and Mayfield. So, if either of these are someone you like just ink them so that you get no surprise

Ideally with a QB that has mobility/elusiveness of Young, adding an RPO element to the playbook should be one of the benefits. That's one of the benefits you get from a guy like Jackson, Allen, Hurts or Daniel Jones. But Young is not built to do this. His speed/elusiveness will probably only be evident on out of structure backfield scrambles. So the question becomes: Do you trust Young enough as a pocket passer to become a Top 10 QB, with out of structure scramble yards being a side benefit? Didn't work out for Murray, although I do think Young is a better natural pocket passer (although less explosive on improv out of structure).
Will Levis is the guy built for RPO to be a major contributing factor to his game like the QBs mentioned above. Drips tools, but comes with its own set of risks.

Sorry Ben but, you can know who to pick and it doesn't matter. Every report and every mobile scrimmage draft report. You might be right on every sneeze and scratch of the azz. The Texans are still going to draft who they draft and chances are, we'll still have our d*ck in the wind wanting more.

Yep, prepared for it lol. It is what it is. Unfortunately, not a great year to be drafting #1 or #2 and needing a QB. That's the way it goes. Let's see what Caserio can pull off this year. Would love to be positively surprised for once, but I'm not holding my breath.
If Kyle Shanahan has given up on a QB… you some kind of arrogant if you think you can get something out of him.

Although it may not be giving up on Lance as much as finding a guy who fits his system perfectly in Purdy. Especially if there's some sort of deep playoff run... If SF decides to look for trade options for that reason, I think you have to kick the tires. All depends what happens in the draft. All for augmenting the competition and let Mills and better competition duke it out and not draft a lottery QB this year.
But then again, Kyle Allen was supposed to be decent competition with starting experience, but the team was so bad he couldn't even stick past 2 (horrible) games. So who know what level of competition is needed.

172 career rushing yards? In 2022 he had 195 at 4.2 avg for four TDs. I definitely agree he is not a run QB but then I don't want him to be. Matt Schaub was excellent at play action and was known not to be a run QB. Size wise I have cringed watching Bryce run even when he scored but I cringed watching Deshaun run also. Young's elusiveness is also seen inside the tackle box bobbing and weaving to evade sacks. In that regard he reminds me of Vince Young.

Anderson has been MIA so far as well, however mostly quick throws oin the gun. No time to rush the passer so far. And yes, I wonder how this scrambly-type dancing that Young in the pocket does in the pocket will play in the pros.
Not a good start for Alabama in any phase of the game but much too early to call it

He had all day and nobody within 3 yards of him. Also got a huge YAC on a shallow cross that will make the stats look good. Deep passing looks very bad this game so far. But, really like the poise he shows in the pocket. Doesn't panic and keeps his eyes downfield. Excellent at going through his progressions

Until seeing this game today, I really haven't had an opinion on Bryce Young other than my generic comments on not drafting a QB in 2023. Now that I've seen him play, I say no no no. He's to freaking small. I watched one of his lineman pick him up to celebrate a pass and Young was probably two foot off the ground before he was eye level with the lineman. No ******* way I want him for anything other than a useful backup, most certainly not the starter.
