Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

What’s the cut off price for paying Nate?
Also we need a back up plan for a LT I really hope we had a plan B.

If the Browns are actually bidding on Solder that means Joe Thomas is retiring.

Thomas doesn't necessarily have to retire. Browns might want to get younger at the position. If they sign Solder, Thomas could ask to be released and the Browns would probably honor the request since they couldn't afford to have that much money locked up in 2 starting LT's.

This off season is a failure if we don’t improve our Front 7. Watt and Clowney are huge injury risk and after reader our depth is just a bunch of JAGs.

Front 13...5- OL, 1- TE, 3- DL, 4- LB'ers. Got to set those trenches and then fortify them with quality depth.

You are truly living up to your name my brutha!
I don’t see him asking to be released right now. Definitely when he knows he’s getting paid and coming off that injury he’d be losing money. If he doesn’t play it would be because he retires which I highly doubt he’ll do.

He is under contract next year. The Browns have said they want him back. He said he would make his decision by tomorrow. If the Browns are pursuing Solder, Thomas is retiring.

With the glut of DL talent, Texans should be able to get somebody of starter quality. Poe would probably be the best fit, but any of that group would do wonders

I think the Browns could cut Thomas this season without any real impact to their cap. I just looked at Spotrac and it appears that this is the final year of his extension. He's 33 and stands to make 14M+ this season, if he decides to accept a backup roll. If the Browns sign Solder at 15+ annually, then that's a lot of money on the books for a couple of LT's on the same roster in 2018.

Come on Browns, cut him if you guys land Solder.

Jags get Norwell

Texans get Fulton.

It's safe to say that FA hasn't gotten off to a roaring start.

Hopefully Gaine gets Solder.

He was pretty solid as a 13-game starter in 2015, but ended the year on IR with a serious undisclosed knee injury that kept him out until 2016 June minicamp and had him miss several early regular games. He underwent shoulder surgery for both a torn labrum and rotator cuff in mid Jan of 2017. Last season, he showed very average performance, probably a lot to do with his cumulative injury history.
I think average might be an upgrade for us at this point lol. Maybe we can bring him in on a 1 year prove it deal?

I just can't imagine paying that much for a guard, by we'll see. We are getting a bargain with Fulton if the reported annual salary is correct at $7 mill per. He was top 5 in pass protection last year at the guard position (according to pff). Can play center as well.

Hopefully this means that Allen moves back to his original position at LG.

Dammit. I was hoping we would get him. Well we better hope one of the top 4 TEs in the draft are there in the third.

I'm really hoping we might see, Mark Andrews (OK) "Long-shot"; Durham Smythe (ND) and Troy Fumagalli (WISC) still on the board in RD3 or RD4. These guys would be some fairly decent options...especially if the Texans can get some answers on the OL that would free their TE's up to be more receiving threats versus the extra OL.

I never saw us going after both Norwell and Nate thats a lot of money without addressing other needs.

Apparently the year before we signed Allen, he was a really good player when he was at LG in KC. I think he played RG for us?

You are correct. We got Allen based on his LG production in KC....then promptly converted him to RG upon his arrival...the Texans had that future All-Pro Su'a-Filo blocking his playing time at LG.

Lol. Well maybe this means Allen is going back to LG?

LT - ?
LG - Allen
C - Martin
RG - Fulton
RT- ?

Did we get Fulton?

That's what they are reporting. Texans will sign him and then move him to OLB...they're confident the transition will be seamless and Fulton will wow many doubters!!! No, the word is, they will sign Fulton and immediately line him up as starting Center. I'd be on board with this move. Mancz and Martin could duke it out for the starting RG gig since it looks like the Texans may move Allen back to his natural position at LG. C'mon Solder....become a Texan.

Get these 2 signed for the OL and the Texans will still need to draft a couple of OL.

Oh, I'd still take a flier on Greg Robinson to see if he has the push to try and win the RT job. It really shouldn't cost more than a veteran's minimum type of deal. Incentive that contract out the wazoo and let's see what he's made of.

You can choose to pay for the best Norwell/Solder or you can go on the cheap Davenport/Fulton. THey certainly have the money to pay top $$$$.

Bottom line: The Jags got better today, the Texans not quite as much.

Dissapointing off-season to date

Damn, I'm sitting here trying to convince myself that Gaine -N- Company are just trying to be sly and not show their cards. This is the moment when you're eyeing the dance hall and trying to figure out who to ask...later (tomorrow) is when you finally get to go up and start asking for real. No one is locked in, it's just a verbal....there's nothing stopping a team from offering a better deal tomorrow.

It all stands and falls with Solder. If we get him and Fulton, our O-Line has improved a lot. Then add one or two of those Quality secondary Players and we have adressed our biggest Needs - adding a RT or TE would be the charry on Top.

If we don't get Solder, we got a big Problem. We Need to protect Watson and we Need a running game. Without Solder both would be a lot harder.

A bitter pill that would be....but a pill, no matter the bitterness, that would have to swallowed anyways.

Putting all your eggs into 1 basket is a big risk.

Here's a thought, if we miss on Solder and don't find someone in FA worthy of signing, would you be okay with giving up next year's 1st for an average LT currently under contract?

The problem is Solder and his team know the dropoff is steep so teams will wait for his decision. And the Browns don’t want to commit to a number until Joe Thomas makes a decision.

And Solder also wants to give New England the opportunity to match. He has the luxury of waiting and there’s not a lot the Texans can do about it given the alternatives and lack of draft capital to go get a comparable player.
