Just a recognition of those comments, in other threads, about the team being in a win now mode; and wasting the talent we've put into the defense. So? What's your point? Are you against hope?

I was being sarcastic in regards to some posters seemingly believing this.

What are you referring to? Mitch Trubisky to the Browns at #1? That was just what Adam Schefter has been reporting for a few days. I thought it was common knowledge by now? They've been going back and forth between Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky but those close to Paul DePodesta believe Trubkisky will be the selection. I guess we'll find out soon enough.- No.
- Where is that apparent?
Why would we get a guy at #25 that will still be there for us at the end of round two and possibly three? I'm not buying this Davis Webb first-round talk. I'm willing to bet you breakfast at Denny's that Davis Webb will not be drafted in the first round.Pete Prisco has us taking Davis Webb, QB, Cal at #25. Cam Robinson goes at #26, Zach Cunninham #27. Basically taking a 2-3 rounder in the first and passing on much better talent. Yeah, I'd be pissed.

Who's to say there isn't a surprise star Qb that could be found in round three or four?I agree we are in win now mode, I also believe we need to draft a QB and yes I know it won't help us in the up coming season unless something happens that they will most likely make a movie about later.
Just because you are in win now mode doesn't mean you have ALL the pieces in plCe. Sadly we managed to enter win now mode without getting at least a decent QB in place. It's like gearing up and sending all the troops into battle while forgetting to pick a commanding officer.
It's why I was in favor of getting Romo because, injuries, aside he was the most realistic chance we had. Cutler and Kap don't have it in them, The hood isn't going to let go of Jimmy G at a price we could afford and even if he does it's almost an Osweiler level gamble that he's the real goods and there are no other QBs that might be free that are even worth considering.
So yeah we are in win now mode but it is kind of wasted.

Honestly, I'd rather the Texans finish 2-14 this season and draft Darnold next year.
about the team being in a win now mode
I'd rather they win the Super Bowl & draft Darnold next year.
If Rick is as bad at his job as many here believe him to be, I agree.
But if Rick was able to build a team that can win with severe limitations at the QB position, drafting the right QB may be the best thing we could do for this season.
But it would be up to the coaches to make it work.

Man that would be painful. Most of our fan base would lose their minds. And Bill O'Brien/crew will be handed their walking papers. Rick Smith included probably

I could endure it, though. I could endure watching another bad season than these 9-7 seasons that land us in the middle or late part of round 1.
Watt's back is problematic and could be the beginning of the end of his career. Clowney's knee is a ticking time bomb. Joseph is near retiring as well as Cushing. Duane Brown too. Eventually they have to think about the future, like 10-15 years. I would be fine with Smith and O'Brien telling McNair that there is no QB in this draft that can turn this franchise around. Let's get younger, think ahead and take our chances in the 2018 draft for a better crop of QB's.
Now to be clear, I'm not advocating the Texans tank the season. All I'm saying is I can handle watching them lose if I think it's going to put them in a position to finally land a franchise QB. And a lot of scouts are saying that is what Darnold is. They say he is the best franchise QB prospect since Luck.
In Russel Wilson and Dak Prescott among recently drafted quarterbacks, we have seen them outperform their draft positions and be ready from the start, and I don't necessarily think it is any more doubtful for quarterbacks in the future than it was thought to be for those two mentioned.
I think RG is a question mark. If Allen, coming back from his injury, performs to the expectations we had when we signed him, then we may be OK. Mantz and Martin have experience at the position, but I don't think at the level we need.I'm still good with Savage, Weeden and any rookie QB not named Kizer or Webb. I honestly think either Savage or Weeden could lead the Texans on a nice playoff run IF the OL gets upgraded. That is the single largest hole on the roster. I think Martin coming back will go a long way in upgrading the OL, but RT is an absolute must. LT depth is a pretty dire need, also.
Really? I think Manc or Martin would do well at either C or RG.I think RG is a question mark. If Allen, coming back from his injury, performs to the expectations we had when we signed him, then we may be OK. Mantz and Martin have experience at the position, but I don't think at the level we need.
Nothing I can hang my hat on. But Martin is coming off an injury and hasn't yet played his first snap in a game. Mancz is a lunch pail athlete who, in college, played every position except LT. Has always answered the bell and gotten the job done. But until he does it in the NFL, as an OG, he's a question mark as to whether he'll be more than JAG at the OG position.Really? I think Manc or Martin would do well at either C or RG.
Brown, XSF, Martin, Mancz, Allen, draft pickRT....we still need 2 more, maybe 3. Clark as the swing tackle? He's barely JAG, but serviceable for this season. Who else?I think XSF is going to be among the better guards in the league. I'm hoping Martin will be among the better Centers ad well.
If Allen can be the guy he was at KC, Mancz would be pretty good depth.

It's a swing guard that I question. We have Mancz/Martin. But are Chad Slade and JOsh Walker serviceable?I still think Clark played well for a backup. Hopefully we won't need him to play as much in 2017.
Then we have Lamm. I don't know what they think about him, but he got a bunch of extra snaps at the end of the season.
We need a starter at RT.
Only time will tell. They didn't see much action at all. So that's pretty hard to say if they ate serviceable or not. It's a swing guard that I question. We have Mancz/Martin. But are Chad Slade and JOsh Walker serviceable?
Practice squad possibly. It's gonna be Mancz/Martin/X/Allen in the interior. It's a swing guard that I question. We have Mancz/Martin. But are Chad Slade and JOsh Walker serviceable?
Four players to fill three spots? I don't think so. It would even be difficult to practice with this limitation. You may have only four active on game day, although even this would be risky, but you simply have to have at least five on your active roster, and preferably six. Maybe five if you have a player like Mancz.Practice squad possibly. It's gonna be Mancz/Martin/X/Allen in the interior.

Unfortunately you are correct. The first thing we need is a coach who is able to recognize and adapt to circumstances. If we had gotten Prescott you can be sure he'd have spent last year on the bench because O'B would not have seen the potential. Similarly for Wilson years ago. O'Brien is set in his ways and not likely to do anything that challenges those ways. He's not long on imagination (see play calling) or inspiration.
I don't think either sucks but I won't lose sleep if either or both lose their job after a sub par to lousy season.Actually, many if not most on this board would be too busy detailing all the ways BOB and Rick had always sucked and how great their choice of coach and GM would be.
There is no doubt Osweiler sucked last season but I think he is a better Qb than we saw last season.
I am not saying he is pro bowl good but I would venture to say that given a better fit at head coach he would have performed up to his Broncos season. Which was not too bad.
The problem is you expected Patriots Bullshit to work outside the Patriots.
Everyone expects this still. I don't know why.
I'm talking about using the players strengths.
Instead of running our little running backs between the tackles, why weren't we attacking the edges?
Why weren't we using misdirection?
Why weren't we running RB & TE screens?
RBs come into the league making impact almost from day 1. Why were we feeding Lamar Miller like he was the only RB on our roster? Then every time someone else made a play; Grimes, Blue, Hunt... they're quickly shown the bench & we pound Miller up the middle.

I'll never understand that.
The way we used our rbs last year was perplexing.
Cutler and O'b would for sure butt heads.I hope the Texans do not draft a QB.
I believe it would be David Carr all over again.
David Carr was amazing in collage.
I do not believe David had a chance to grow
do to the lack of O-Line.
That being said who ever we pick will have better weapons then David.
This year's QB selectons are not worth our first round pick.
What I want?
Jay cutler on a one year deal
if obrian fails to work his magic with cutler.
get rid of both.
Let the new coach pick what ever QB he wants next year and even move up to get him if we must.
Get your pink soap out it's going to be a long season
If the Texans give up a bunch for DW than there is no way I want him.Ian Rapoport

#Clemson QB Deshaun Watson flies to Houston tomorrow and is slated for a visit with the #Texans tomorrow and Tuesday, I'm told. They pick 25
