I would offer our first and fourth round pick to new Orleans for drew Brees .
How many years do you think Brees realistically has left?

Right trade Watt for a rookie that has more of a chance to fail then be a franchise QB I don't think so.What is with this fixation on trading Watt? Give it a rest.
2-3 yrs
2-3 yrs
3 years ago I would make that trade. Today? Nah!......... I'd think about it for a 3rd and a 4th.
I'd even go a 2nd and 4th
I'd think long and hard about that one. If we didn't have as many holes to fill I'd be on board. But I really want a young QB, stud RB, and a speedy WR in this draft.
Yeah I figure we can get either Elliot or Henry in the first and then it's a crapshoot... may take some wheeling and dealing
I would do that in a heartbeat. Get an elite QB like Brees and this could be a Super Bowl caliber team. That's definitely worth a 2nd & 4th.I'd even go a 2nd and 4th
After reading up on 2016 QB prospects, I'm certain that O'Brien will take Hackenberg in the 1st.
I'd rather move up in Rd 2 for him. After reading up on 2016 QB prospects, I'm certain that O'Brien will take Hackenberg in the 1st.
SI is reporting that Sean Payton will be returning to New Orleans in 2016. Assuming this is true, I'd guess the probability of the Saints being willing to trade him is significantly reduced.I would offer our first and fourth round pick to new Orleans for drew Brees .
I thought it was the cap hit spreading the rumor of NO letting Brees go; coach leaving only made it more likely, coach staying signals little.SI is reporting that Sean Payton will be returning to New Orleans in 2016. Well, if Brees is traded, he'd have to restructure - if not outright reduce his salary amount anywhere he goes. As it stands now, his cap hit for 2016 is $30 Million, and there's no team in the NFL who's going to take that on "as is". Perhaps even more importantly, I don't think the Saints and Payton are going to agree to anything that doesn't involve at least making an all-out effort to bring Brees back next season. And as far as the contract negotiations, given his relation with the city and with Payton, I've got to believe Brees would much prefer staying in New Orleans - even if it means getting a little less than he could somewhere else.I thought it was the cap hit spreading the rumor of NO letting Brees go; coach leaving only made it more likely, coach staying signals little.
I hate you right now.
It's a combination of measurables...
It's a combination of measurables and O'Brien's proven inclination for being biased. If we're picking in the 20's, he won't wait until the low 2nd round for his guy.
And if that Michigan TE is there in the 2nd, he'll snag him too.
With the bow?
And that's good enough to be an automatic contender every year while you pick a young QB, wisely, to learn behind Brees. Hell, there's an outside chance he has more than that in the tank. He's still rockin' like he was 3-5 years ago.

A Rick Smith 2nd and 4th for sure.
I would give up a 1st and 3rd because how would you feel about the Texans chances of winning Saturday if Brees was under center for the Texans?
Only if he's willing to restructure his contract
It aint my $$$$ and they would have the cap room after cutting Foster combined with the estimated 27 mil in cap space. Heck they could do a deal with cutting Graham's $$$$.
It was posted somewhere here that he is due $30million, that is just too much
I think that was probably me, and I just double-checked it. $30 Million is his cap hit next season not his base salary. It looks like his base and workout bonus would be $20 Million, so not as bad as my incorrect initial number looked. It was posted somewhere here that he is due $30million, that is just too much

What's the cost of a top 5 franchise QB?
IIRC, a new team only responsible for base ($19.75 m) rest of it remains with Saints. Of course, offering him a new adjusted deal he would accept for next 2-3 year. He turns 37 in 11 days.Well, if Brees is traded, he'd have to restructure - if not outright reduce his salary amount anywhere he goes. I dunno. What does Brees know about this offense??...how would you feel about the Texans chances of winning Saturday if Brees was under center for the Texans?

He'll pick it up soon enough.
I dunno. What does Brees know about this offense??
And Brees has come back saying he only wants to play for the Saints. How much of that will shake out in the off season, I don't know, but it would make sense for Brees to stay put.
Since NO is my 2nd fave team since 1983 or so, I guess I can always still root for them (unless they are playing the Texans).
I guess it then goes back to my original premise: draft a QB high, expect Savage to really compete, and hang on to Hoyer or Weeden for vet bench experience. I would expect Weeden, because he comes cheaper than Hoyer.
After a full season I can rest assure you he would be better than Hoyer. Weeden looked better than Hoyer after taking one snap in practice before the Indy game and with a full week of practice against the Tacks.
So you tell me how you think Brees would look? It's time for this franchise to start taking risks and if a QB of Brees abilities becomes available getting him should be a no brainer.
Best case .... one of Lynch or Goff falls like Rodgers did but I just don't see that happening with so many teams with a need at the position.
Worst case .... they bunt again and don't draft a QB at all .... we get Hoyer or someone similar.
Risks? Weren't you the one on your soapbox when they extended lis-franc Schaub?
Just a rough far outside view of the draft at this point......
I would be happy with Wentz at our pick.
Best player available, regardless of position should've been a choice. That's mine. If it's a position of need, then great. If it's a close call, take the best player at a position of need. Even if it's a kicker in the 1st round. HA!
I like Wentz .... but that injury is concerning. Wrist & hand injuries are a big deal for guys who handle the ball ... and no one will handle it more than a QB.
