Week 3 Game Day thread! Bludgeon the Vikings!

Good runs? He averaged 2.3ypc with a long of 6. Not going to point out his TOTAL of 21 yards but… lol. The -entire- RB corps rushed for 2 yards per carry.
In the first quarter he averaged more than that. You’re talking about overall. Come Nitro.

In the first quarter,

2 yard gain
8 yard gain
9 yard gain.

He didn’t touch it the rest of the quarter. That’s 5+ yards a pop.

Second quarter things got bad.

Only 3 touches

-2 yard loss. Dude barely got the handoff and defenders were right there to shut it down.
3 yard gain
3 yard gain

I called it last Monday. This team was playing sloppy the first two games. The Chicago game shouldn't have been close, but we kept making dumb mistakes. We played a great team and it caught up to us. I hope this embarrassment makes the guys in the locker room focus.

Losing sucks but at least it was an NFC loss. We need to win all the AFC games to help with seeding.

Points to an issue I don't think any of us want to bring up.

I'm solidly in the "this is preseason" excuse mode, but pretty soon we're going to have to talk about this sloppy, penalty ridden, poorly coached gaggle of a "team."

ABSOLUTELY! Especially one with Mixon’s blocking skills.
A roadrunner couldn't find any holes to run through and nobody set to lead block for them would help. I think our team has good running backs all the way around but the offensive line has to do their part. How good was our running game against the Bears? Enough said!

It appears we may have the weakest division in the NFL. So much for talk of our division being much improved!

What's the issue that any of us don't want to bring up or address?

That's not what he's trying to saying. Look he had a terrible game. The entire team stunk yesterday. Tunsil was one of the worst of the stinkers, but trying to blame yesterday's fiasco on him is laughable.
Other than the mysterious people that Lance Zierline referred to, I do not know of anyone blaming Tunsil for the loss. More than likely; call ins to radio. T does admit doing the same as he did first two games. He knows better as does the guy in first game this year who also was flagged 3-4 times.
LT's move is to get "jump" on his opponent as he doesn't think he can beat him. Sometimes, perhaps he knows that there is a rush or something that he cannot account for by himself so he correctly gets a penalty that protects his qb. I think that is rare. Whether you or I like the rules, every NFL player knows what they are. So stop it!

Did he get away with it, or were the feds call it differently yesterday?
I've heard this a bit from others out side TT but again this is an excuse similar to Astros fans whining cause other teams cheat too or ' if you ain't cheating you ain't trying' which again is elementary school age behavior.
Referees should call game consistently but if they don't GM sends tape to the NFL.

That’s because they got behind. Akers had some good runs in the first half. But being down 21-0 we went to the passing game more often in the 2nd half.
The passing game was supposed to be our strength as no one should be able to shut down our four top targets and a running back who can catch out of the backfield.

Folks need to move on; Tunsil, this ass whooping...Look You get your **** pushed in sometimes in the NFL. Happened to us last year against the Browns too. We returned the favor in the playoffs a few weeks later.

But Its early in the season. this team just doesn't know who it is right now. They know who they wanna be, but what these 1st couple of games have shown us is that they've struggled to find that solidified ID. Right now they're disjointed in that. Meco being a defensive guy always leans towards protecting those guys so naturally he wants to run it more..and after the big showing in Wk 1 i think he's more entrenched than ever in believing that they can be that team. Meanwhile CJ's been all over everyone's podcast and in the media talking about a "5 headed monster" & naturally he wants to air it out. He's also got new toys in Diggs that he wants to play with. So going forward, they're gonna have to both get on the same page so that this team can start looking like the talent on paper says it should look on offense. I think that would help the defense too...so that should tell you which ID they should go with.

A player has to adjust to how the refs are calling the game. Every crew is different.
But they shouldn't be. Players should not have to adjust. 1st down is always 10 yards. TDs are 6 points. Sure human element interferes but cameras are everywhere plus Ref off the field can give input on some plays why not all?

I’ve moved on, time to kick the Jaguars ashes.

I agree with how you're looking at this, but its not reality. This is similar to how the strike zone is in baseball. Every ump calls it just a little differently. Having said all that, i could've sworn that refs were supposed to give these guys/coaches warnings before they threw the flag & i don't recall that happening in the Vikes game for us. Maybe it did happen it just wasn't announced and made known...but still. these 1st few games it just seems like the refs are arbitrarily calling it. Like guys play a whole 1-2 qtrs in the same game where noone gets a flag for it, players think everything is all good..... and then all of a sudden in the 3-4th you get 2-3 flags for it....& its usually against 1 of the teams where they start calling it like that. Once that happens and kills a drive or 2, the other team sees how they're starting to flag for it and they adjust accordingly & the flags go away for the rest of the game. Its been very inconsistent so far in how & when they're choosing to call it.

How about getting away from this ID, culture, don't know who they are BS and just do your job? It should not matter if you are a run or passing offense or whatever kind of defense, swarm or otherwise; tackle when you're supposed to tackle and block when you're supposed to block and be where you're supposed to be.

Identity is important man. Can't have 11 guys out there just "doing their jobs"; especially on offense. Alot of what teams on offense and defense requires communication & you just gotta know how your bread is buttered.

100% disagree. If each individual is doing exactly what the play calls for it will be successful. You don't need to know whether you are a passing team or a defensive team or a running team or blah blah blah

I do not know why moving on has to include forgetting or not discussing blatant issues? There was sloppiness in our first three games so we're just going to assume it's going to correct itself by game 4?

Noone said you had to forget. But lets act like these guys are professionals & know what the hell just happened to them & are going to work on getting it corrected. We had alot of the same stuff going on early last year too. We couldn't stop the run on defense to save our lives in our 1st couple of games and then after the jags game we got everything shored up there & it really wasn't much of an issue the rest of the seaason.

We’ve discussed it religiously for three days now. Therefore, like I said I’m moving on. Nowhere did I say we all needs to move on.

You're free to disagree..You'd be wrong as hell, but you can disagree. This ain't tecmo bowl where you can just draw up a play and you get the exact optimal defense to run it against to make it successful. Players adjust. Schemes adjust. Players change and evolve. In those instances, you gotta know what you're really good at to where all of the above that i just stated doesn't matter too much & you can still go get the requisite yardage. I'm not gonna draw up and be constantly calling deep passing plays if i know my o-line sux in pass pro & my QB has Ryan Mallet level accuracy (RIP).......unless i have to that is; Gotta know who you are.

Yes, outside of a few flash plays we have hardly been the next "Greatest Show On Turf" the new beginning!!! Let's hope our team turns things around next week and it stay's that way throughout the rest of the season.

Sure they should. Some refs call a tighter game than others. Is it really that difficult for a T who gets penalized for illegal formation to move forward a bit, especially after they've been warned? What about refs who let DBs get a bit handsy, or throw the flag for a handsy DB. Baseball players have to do it all the time with strike zones. It's just part of the game. Get one penalty, shame on me. Get a second penalty for the same thing, umm, umm, you can't get a penalty for the same dang thing.

I don't think Slowick knows how to utilize all the weapons.
The Texans moved the ball. It's hard to overcome all of the penalty yardage. How many 3 & 15 plays do you think he has? The Texans offense has been putting themselves behind the chains a ridiculous amount the last two games with pre-snap/procedural penalties. CJ being under constant, immediate pressure doesn't help anything.

Wait a minute. I thought we hated Kubiak’s “It’s on me” and BOB’s “We have to coach better” responses.
Only when it followed multiple losses and nothing got better. At some point the talk is cheap. It is better to tell the press you aren't doing your job and unless things quickly change you will step down, but if not you understand getting fired. At this stage there is nothing that can be said other the coach taking ownership for his teams obviously bad game. Of course if is from lack of talent you quit and later explain why.

Killing those 1-2 possessions in the 2nd half is a great way to rig a game without being obvious about it. I've said for years that God'ella NFL is slowly turning into the WWE. Unfortunately this doesn't matter to the owners as long as fans keep playing FF and gambling on the sport
