Tunsil has been a positive, and Watson alive had to be our priority if we had any chance
this year. The negative of that trade will be abundantly clear the next 2 drafts. I hated the deal initially but I'm leaning toward worth it. Just quit with the Gd false starts already.

Seeing coutee drop off and knowing fuller would get hurt makes Stills worth it. We've already seen him play really well. I wouldn't call him dr jeckle and Mr hyde. I'd call him good at times and average at his worst. Stills was someone I thought of as a throw away in that trade. I was wrong - i like him.

I like Hyde and think he's better then Miller. He may not have the long speed to bump his ypc average but he grinds out tough yards Miller never could. I agree Duke isn't utilized correctly and if we dont start using him right it was a bad trade. I'm guessing he'll have a couple of huge plays this year to prove me wrong but I wont hold my breath.

The Clowney trade was an absolute disaster. I put it right up there with the oz trade. Mishandled, misplayed, and humiliating. We got a mid to late 3rd round pick and a couple of struggling jags for clowney. - it's not forgivable. To make matters worse we lost watt for the season. How's that for salt in our wound?

The Conley trade was forced by injury and it's to early to tell I think.

That said, we probably are middling. Not because of the trades ,but because of the injuries on defense and stupid game management. This offense has had great moments I've never seen before and I believe the trades played a big part in that.

Jmo ofcourse.
I just wanted this out there after today's game.

Yes the team would be screwed without Stills and Tunsil/Hyde/Duke.

Conley is a very talented guy who fits RAC's scheme and it's doubtful that they could find a CB as good as Conley late in the 3rd rd. Good news is Conley is still under contract for 2 more yrs after this yr.

I didn't like the Clowney trade either but I understand why it was made. They took a mid/late 3rd rather than risk Clowney blowing out his knee this yr and getting nothing for him. Not what I would've done, but I understand the move.

I really don't think the knee factored into it. Someone is going to pay him big money. Not us. We had been fielding offers since the draft. Missed out on the KC deal. & BO'b just rather move forward without him than sideways with him.

Can you imagine the leverage he'd think he had with Jj out for the season?

Cool dude. Good football player. Gonna get a huge contract. Just not here. Wish him all the best & all that. But bye

I dont think he's going to get the $$$$ that he thinks he's going to get.

Mack/Donald type $$$$.

Really,

6-3 going into the bye would suggest otherwise.
I agree that the trades are a contributing factor but we were 6-3 going into the bye last year without any of them.

In my opinion the most important common denominator the last 2 years is Watson.

Agreed, without your QB your nothing.

This team has alot more potential due to a much improved OL/depth at WR after WFV gets hurt again/I think there's going to be much better depth in the secondary. Hyde/Duke as a tandem are better than Miller/Blue.

In short this team has better depth to withstand injuries than last yrs team did and the OL is actually quite good and has much room to improve, compared to last yrs putrid OL.

He could have had a probowl season, broke the sack record, broke the INT record this season, and any other wild accomplishment but we still could have franchised him again. This time his trade value would have been than what we got for him. Only leverage JDC had was when OB said he'd trade him after signing his tender.

I wouldnt risk further injury for a wild card game, only an AFC Championship game or Super Bowl otherwise put him on ice til next year.
Looks like a low risk move.
Plus, with a worst-case scenario that he goes out and tears it again, he can have a relatively routine surgery and still be ready for 2020.
I'm a believer. Watching Watt on the sideline, makes me think he's a believer, too.

I highly doubt this will happen. Still interesting...

I'm not able to access the article you linked but I assume it's related to the Texans saving their last "designation to return" for Watt

Heard it mentioned on the radio this afternoon that with us having had a crack at claiming T Suggs off waivers today and passing ... perhaps could mean we're feeling a little more confidant that we'll have some pass rush help return for the playoffs ... ?

Not really saying anything, but just saying..

What do you think, Doc? Should he?
Watt's injury requires 4-6 months rehab. The SB will be ~3 months postop. If he even tries to play in the SB alone (which I would not allow him to do), it is doubtful that be recognizable as JJ Watt, in addition to exposing himself to re-injury. For those who have suggested he should be at least allowed to play in the playoffs in a pass rush specialist position, remember that he was injured while wrapping a tackle. which requires a strong healthy pec. Also requiring a strong pass rush is the ability to pull an opponent to the side on the way to the QB..........again requiring a healthy pec...........and again increasing the chance of re-injury in a non fully rehabbed pec. With all of his history of other previous injuries, Watt already has more than enough challenges facing him to come back and make it through one more season.

Absolutely agree!!!! I'm very pro recovery. Bottom line, no player should feel pressured to return if they're not 100% after a major injury. Teams have no problems dumping you and their commitment if you're not on the field.

But it is ultimately the team doctor's responsibility to clear him not only to practice, but to separately clear him to play in a game. Without that clearance, the player has no say. And if that doctor clears him under "pressure" and he has obviously not been adequately rehabbed, the doctor has broken his sacred oath to his patient to "First do no harm."

There's the possibility, out of respect, to activate him for the playoffs, without intending for him to play. Maybe for one play or very limited plays, if at all. If he remotely had thoughts of hanging it all up, he wouldn't want to go out on the IR.

This is what O'Brien said Monday morning when asked about Watt returning.

"I'm going to tell you that JJ is working very very hard and he has certainly made progress based solely on his work ethic and who he is working with in the training room. We'll see how it goes".

People will continually ignore all of this for some weird reason. It was ridiculous to trade him at all unless we got a great offer. He had all the motivation to play hard for us for next year where we still could have franchised him. Texans had all the cards.

For all the right reasons, I know the Dr. is going to disagree with this position and I completely understand why. I'm usually the first guy that wants to hold players out to ensure their long term health for this club.

My question is how many more years does Watt have in him? (We don't know)

I know I'm going to get flamed for this (because I'd love for Watt to get back to his old self) but how many more years does he want to play? This could be among the last that the Texans will make the playoffs when he's on the team. I say that because I just can't see him going out there as a shell of himself so he would retire before that.

Watt (like Andre Johnson) has given everything for this team and I think the least the Texans could do for him is let him suit up in the playoffs for limited situational snaps. I know we've all seen him completely take over games and I think the threat of that could open up the pass rush lanes for the other players.

Which leads me to believe the conspiracy theory that he was not fitting in with the coaching staff/organization OR maybe other players (cough, cough, Watt, cough) may have not liked his locker room presence. I know this is complete heresay and speculation, but I recall when JDC was still new on the team, some of the media on Houston Radio was surprised that Watt never really "took him under his wing" like how he did the rest of the D-line and people suspected that they may not get along.

Something like that is the only reason that the Texans would jettison JDC right before the season when they pretty much held all the cards. Then again teams do stupid things from time to time (or all the time) like drafting a kicker in the 1st Round so I don't know.

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
I guess the Saints dont have a problem with players using the word "retard" .. while they wont be winning any ArchDiocese awards anytime soon, they just might be hoisting another Lombardi. Its cool to see those teams that are really "all in" make the moves that actually represent that outlook.

edit: wrong thread my bad -------> the Suggs/Jenkins releases.

When i hear "pec tear" and him needing surgery, i think of this or this
pec tear.jpg pec tear2.jpg

He's already been out long enough to have healed from the surgery...but if his tear was anywhere close to the level of these, It would be complete foolishness to entertain him coming back before next season......but I don't think he or the Texans FO would be leaving the door open like they have if it wasn't a possibility But they are, so to me, his injury must've not been as severe as the pics. CnD..educate me please as i'm floundering here. Are there gradients to these tears & could he realistically come back to play after a severe tear like the above illustrations?

We can use two pass rushers. Ours aren’t getting it done now. Zero risk in claiming Suggs.
Dare I say...maybe Suggs isn't "Texans worthy"? I mean beating up your fiancee and dragging her in a moving car could be beyond the pale. Here is a quote from an article about it:

Vice News said:
On November 20, 2012, Williams requested a temporary protective order from the Circuit Court of Maryland for Baltimore County. In her complaint, which was obtained by Broadly, she alleged that Suggs punched her neck and threw her out of her car in early September 2012. She alleged that, after he threw her out, he began driving although her hand was caught in the seatbelt; she said their two children were in the car at the time. "He dragged me at a high rate of speed," Williams alleged. "I finally freed myself and fell in the road." Williams said she suffered "severe road rash" on her legs and feet as a result and was taken to urgent care; she also claimed that she could not walk following the incident.

In her complaint, she also outlines a history of abuse: In addition to the aforementioned December 2009 incident, she said that Suggs kicked her face and broke her nose in October 2009. "Throughout our relationship, since early 2007, he punched me in the face and stomach and threatened to take the children if I left him," she wrote. "He stole my ID so I could not leave."

I could agree with your scenario if we were talking about certainly playing in a SB or even a conference championship but JJ has already played some NFL P/O football at the WC and divisional P/O levels.
