Vince Wilfork to Houston - **signed**

And yet he had more catches and yards last year than many of the people that have been suggested to replace him. I guess a slowed down Johnson is still a legitimate weapon.

Did they offer more than 1/3rd of his production, because that's the kind of cap hit the Texans will be offering for their services (I'm guessing).

A slowed down Johnson is most definitely still a legitimate weapon, and it hurts to see him go. But Hopkins became the de-facto number one last season and Johnson was earning elite money and, last season, at least, didn't put up elite production.

I don't see how anyone can argue the toss about why they let him go. The move allows the team to rebuild over the next couple of years, rather than allowing them a weapon at an inflated price. Whether you agree with it or not is another matter.

I'm just pointing out Johnson is not as washed up as people like to state he is.

As the Rodeo is also in town now, it would seem appropriate for the Texans to rope and hog tie Wilfork..........and not let him leave Houston before signing a contract...........giving the alternative of roping and hanging Smith.:cowboy1:

Dre should not be used as a number one option. The higher his usage rate the more likely that hamstring acts up again.

He's missed one game in the last three years and that was due to a concussion.

During that time he gained 3940 yds which would be 4th to CJ, Antonio Brown and Demaryius Thomas (all with much more prolific passing attacks).

You didn't get the memo? He's old and has slowed down. That is all there is to it.

I don't think many (if anyone) think Andre isn't still an offensive force, but your sarcastic statement is 100% true. Andre Johnson is no longer a top 3 WR in the NFL and his cap number was not something we could have swallowed.

Are we using that cap space for something? Did our team get better or worse?

Very few people are arguing that. The main question now, is could the Texans have handled the situation better & if they had, would Andre still be a Texans?

Cutting Andre is a negative but the offseason isn't complete. I'm not saying we're going to find another prolific WR like Andre was but we may end up with someone that is good enough. I'm going to wait and see. I may be wrong but there's no way in hell to know how this is going to turn out at this moment.

This offseason is going to play out like every other offseason. We are going to sit back and let all of the 1st and 2nd tier and 3rd tier free agents go off the market and then swoop in and scoop up the remainder.

Yeah, but at least the Texans can't sign Clabo and Powe again. They're still here!

:koolaid:

For me it got us Hoyer and Mallet the two best QB we could get and hopefully decreased that need.

I would have rather had Mallett, Savage and Grayson (or some other mid-late round QB). If Mallett stinks I don't need to see Hoyer come in and be mediocre. I'd rather see Savage come in and learn.

Former #Patriots DT Vince Wilfork is in Houston visiting the #Texans, source says. Familiarity with DC Romeo Crennel is key.

we all have our favorites but we know Texans did not agree with you.

Has anyone given estimate of what Pats would offer Wilfork on a lower deal?

He was due to count what $8M against the cap? They would probably do $8-10 if they could lower cap hit

but we have been over this ad nauseum that team did not offer him a lower deal so safe to say they did not want him.

offer didn't come up, don't mean it wasn't in the plan to. Don't discuss it if it makes you sick

The Texans aren't the ones that threw the hissy fit and cut off discussions before an offer was on the table. If he had just waited for the offer, then we would know what the Texans had him valued at. He signed to play 3 years for what he was going to get for two. I don't know if he would have been offered a similar contract by the Texans or not and neither does he.

Just a reminder. Now then on to Wilfork speculation:

Wilfork came to Houston with his wife Bianca. Its a two day visit.

Didier Orméjuste ‏@DidierRDS · 2h2 hours ago
@sullymike2 @WilliamsonNFL According to @adbrandt if the wife of a player is making a trip to visit a city, the deal is pretty much done.

Wilfork played primarily DF last yr according to Rotoworld. If they can get Nix straightened out a DL like this would be dominant.

Wilfork/Nix/Watt

John Lopez of 610 is reporting that Wilfork has left without a deal and has narrowed his list of teams to Baltimore, Indy and New England. Don't see it anywhere else, but the link was put up over at clutchfans.

Texans no longer in Wilfork sweepstakes

Doesn't surprise me, time to move on to Wisnieski/Shorts etc... I hate seeing the Texans getting played. I thought the Texans had built the type of org that FA's would want to come too? LOL

Re-sign Pickett/Nix/draft Terry/Xavier Williams = NT issues solved.

I'm almost thinking that the visit and hearing out the offer was as much a courtesy to RAC and the other New England connection guys here as it was a tactic to maybe get a few more dollars out of Indy (where I expect him to land) or the others. I don't think Houston was ever seriously in the running for him.

That's fine. Raji would be cheaper, Pickett would be fine and cheaper, Is Jerrell Powe even still around? How many guys do you need to fill out the rotation? If they think Nix is going to play this year then one or two cheap guys to make depth will be fine at this point. Lets go get that center because Vince Wilfork may yet factor into how successful (or unsuccessful) we are in 2015.

If he goes to Indy we better have linemen who've eaten their Wheaties. If not Ben Jones will get his "Kris Jenkins moment"

We are likely not in the running for Wisnieski. Not sure of the length of the terms, but over the weekend, read that he had turned down an offer from the Raiders for $3-4M; he's looking for $6M.

How many yrs and 6 mil per yr?

been saying it all along: he will sign with Indy.

And history shows whoever signs a bunch of over the hill vets in free agency wins the championship.

I spent a bit of time this weekend trying to find some information and this was the only thing I found. What I get from this is that he has an inflated idea of his market value, right now. I did find a comment echoing this sentiment. He appears to be waiting to see if some team with a lot of cap dollars will bite, before coming back down to earth.

Has Pickett even decided if he is going to play?

He was talking about it right at the end of the season. I remember reading a story on Chron.com (I think) where he was saying that he hoped to be back (correct that: He said if he did come back he wanted it to be here) because he was feeling a real good vibe here with what we're building. It might have been simple end of the season courtesy speak but reading it he came across as pretty sincere. I bet we could bring him back for a reasonable amount and the man is still fat and strong. What more do you need in a NT?

We don't need old, over the hill players! Let him go to Indy!

Ryan Pickett is who we should sign.

:toropalm:

Pickett is older and was worse than Wilfork last year and isn't sure he wants to keep playing. Makes sense.

Texans no longer in Wilfork sweepstakes

Multiple reports (from Houston & Boston) coming out say this was a standard visit, and Wilfork will visit other teams. Had no intention of signing, wants to take his time.
