OB must have seen the stats on Clowney as well and feels good he got rid of that guy. lol
So I take it you guys are going to keep this thread alive all season by giving a play by play on Clowney. That’s odd, I thought this was the Texans section of the forums and Clowney isn’t a Texan any more.

Vrabel and Patricia won today.
Good day for the Belichick tree
Clowney finished with two tackles and he may or may not have had his first sack depending on the final official ruling; the play was potentially ruled as a “team sack” if Dalton ran out on his own accord. Clowney’s presence also may have helped Quinton Jefferson have a career day with two sack, three QB hits, and two batted passes.
Additionally, Mychal Kendricks was consistently in the backfield creating pressure, Branden Jackson helped create pressure, Al Woods got himself a fumble recovery, and Rasheem Green had the game-winning strip.
The Bengals ran it 15 times for only 34 yards. As a team they had four fumbles.
Clowney’s presence has immediately been felt.
Wait until he gets the playbook down and his playing legs under him. DPOY candidate.
I guess he hadn't learned our playbook in 5 years? But he's going to "learn" Seattle's in a month?
I guess he hadn't learned our playbook in 5 years?
How come?
If all he needs to be DPOY in Seattle is to get his game legs & learn the playbook... I'm assuming he had game legs here so he must not have known the playbook.
Otherwise he'd have been DPOY here.
Maybe he wasn’t being used to the best of his abilities here? RAC is known for not playing to his players strengths and sticking to his system. If all he needs to be DPOY in Seattle is to get his game legs & learn the playbook... Perhaps but that's not what is happening with the Texans at least for this season. JJ Watts at 14.6 million + Hopkins at 14 million are the top two and then the next two drop down to only 9 million of cap space. I think the Texans are establishing the roster in relationship to the cap rules very well. The issue and we don't know the results now is how well the lower cap figured players will perform. In fact, only 10 players are above $4 million. Of those ten Roby, Colvin and Joseph will probably be gone in 2020. I don't understand the thinking in your post or why others agreed with it. Please explain why you posted this? It's hard to win games when only 4 players control over 50% of the salary cap.
Clowney didn't do much today.
I solo tackle, 1 assisted tackle and a pat down.
Ok, I wasn't considering the dpoy part. Thought it was just hyperbole on Rico's part.
Looked to me like he had a quality grasp of the playbook here.
its a laughably immature comment to make. to argue for the sake of arguing. JD was tasked with the elephant position for RAC. He had to know all the gap assignments for the DL - AND ALSO pass coverage integrity for his position on certain alignments. He's not shooting the A gap for the hell of it. In Seattle he will be asked to focus on playing in the backfield and it's what he does best thus I am being serious when I say at the end of the year JD will be in the DPOY pool of players. The guy hadnt done anything football related since January and to come out there and shine like he did was impressive as hell and all these guys trying to diminish that are just insecure about the state of the defense now that he's gone.
EDIT: Oh hey look its in the NFL forum now!! YAY! Now all the whiny baby die hards can stop crying.

I wish the Texans had handled the Clowney situation better, and he was still on the team, but I think he just had a typical Clowney game. A couple of flashes (a TFL, ran the QB down out of bounds, a tipped pass) and a neutral zone infraction which turned 3rd and 11 into 3rd and 6 and a conversion for a 1st down. I watched most of the game, but it's not like he was terrorizing the O-line and they couldn't contain him.
Interesting stuff from LZ this morning on JD (that I had never heard before).:
LZ stated some of JD’s teammates were not happy with his lack of pass rush development. Stated some guys were openly wondering why it took 4 years for JD to spend the offseason with a pass rush specialist in an effort to better his craft. Given how LZ was phrasing things, JJ was clearly one of those teammates who wasn’t thrilled with him….or his practice habits.
As we continue to learn more, it is becoming clearer and clearer why he was traded and that he was never going to be here long term.
Seattle fans couldn’t wait to see the impact of edge defender Jadeveon Clowney, and he didn’t disappoint. He made several key plays, but his impact took significant attention away from other defenders. None more important than the role played by Quinton Jefferson, who recorded multiple pressures on the day.

I think the real story is how he's drawing double teams and teammates had career days.
Lol, so that's what you're running with? he can help create for others, just not for himself huh? That's the story YOU want to tell, but time will tell if that same story is one Seattle or anyone else will be willing to drop 5 years 110+ million for.
That's a story a lot of people are telling. Clowney was the most double teamed edge rusher last year.

That doesn't seem reasonable. I think that the better plan would be to postulate how every play missed on the defense would have been different if JD was playing instead. Are we really going to keep a running tab of every snap he plays?
Lol @ OBrien and Watts locker room “culture” .. Watt is just jealous being in the twilight of his career and hated sharing the spotlight. OBrien just curried favor and hurt the team in order to satisfy the “culture”.
Now they can both reap what they sow.
After last nights game I'd call that comment prophetic. That doesn't seem reasonable. I think that the better plan would be to postulate how every play missed on the defense would have been different if JD was playing instead.
Yea but they only had to pay JD one more year and then after the 2019 season they'd get a new offseason for a doover for the fiasco we just went thru in recent months and that's a win-win-win: you get Cloweny for the 2019 season, don't have to pay him again after 2019, and get something approaching reasonable value for him in a trade after the 1019 season. They can only pay one and with the community ties Watt has there was no way Clowney was coming back. Personally I would let them both walk after their contracts expired and drafted less of an injury risk.
But we both know that's not going to happen.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Jadeveon Clowney was an immediate MONSTAR for Seattle vs. Cincy, repeatedly showcasing an explosive counter club-swim, play-wrecking disruptiveness, and generally freakish athleticism. Not bad for his 1st week back on the field.
