The New New JaDeveon Clowney Thread

From what I understand, the #Texans like Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake but believe he, like OT Laremy Tunsil, is not available.

It’ll be interesting to see what package of players and picks Bill O’Brien might include in a Clowney trade to try and get Tunsil in a deal

— Aaron Reiss (@aaronjreiss) August 28, 2019

Texans trading Clowney AFTER July 15th deadline would be latest major mistake by their "front office".

-Leapfrogged by Eagles for A. Dillard after telegraphing taking an OT in Draft
-Caserio GM pursuit fiasco
-Overpay for Duke Johnson

And now pennies on the Clowney $.

I didn't think someone would. Maybe if we traded him before the last year of his rookie contract like Mack was so teams won't have to mess with the tag situation

When I said before the 7/15 deadline, I really meant any time before that..which would include the last year of his rookie deal.

Fact is, had the FO attempted this, and word got out around here, you guys would still be up in arms...I can hear it now: “Instead of trying to resign JD, Gaine is trying to get rid of him b/c BoB doesn't like him..."

:gathering:..basically the same crap that's going on now..

You want Rick Smith back?

This is how you get Rick Smith back.

Somewhere that guy is laughing to himself holding the biggest I told you so sign.

OBneeds to stop this now and just bring Clowney back to Houston. This is beyond stupid.

If the 'best interest of the team' is really at the forefront of all this then that would be the most sensible and logical thing to do. Just shut up and say you expect Clowney to sign his tender and play for the Texans.

However this is Bill OBrien inflicting his will. this is Bill OBrien who would rather deal with his buddy in Miami, instead of getting the best possible deal. this is bill obrien who cut 3rd rd pick Foreman instead of trying to find a suitor.

and on and on it goes.....

it really shouldnt be that hard to figure out what is holding back this franchise.

Stupid to give up an elite talent unless you’re getting a great return. But no one other than you believes OB isn’t stupid.

Dearest Cal ,

Your team is going in reverse .

An over zealous coach does not get rid of a really good DE/OLB because of personal differences . Bill was an athletic over achiever who parlayed that to an Ivy league school . I bet Bill wishes he had the talent to go to an SEC school , like Clowney did . Because Clowney may not be gung ho like JJ doesn't mean he doesn't show up on Sundays . He does his job . Remember Cal , it's the Jimmy and Joes and not Bill's Xs and Os that will make the Texans great . Tell Bill to work on Devlin and the OL and get Rac to talk to Clowney into playing for the Texans .

Thanks
H.E. Thrityfour

So what is this great return oh wise one? b/c as I've posed in another thread, this is what the haggle is. & as has been stated value is relative. Know this is a hard concept for you to grasp, but its true.

Plenty of ppl here talked about trading him last year if we were not going to extend him. I was not among them, but there were many.

Ad Hominem is the best way to blow up a thread.

“Value is relative” brilliant! OB got us in this piss poor position because he’s an ignorant POS. There is no good reason to be where we are right now. This is on him. Now reply with your usual BOB slurp de derp.

How about a conditional trade?

Start with a 3rd round pick + player(s). If Clowney plays in 10 games, the 3rd rounder becomes a 2nd round pick. If Clowney signs a long term deal following the 2019 season, the Texans get a 2021 1st round pick.

This covers all the bases and questions.

Yeah that’s right, lash out like an emo little pre teen girl....b/c that’s what u do.....with no actual sound thought just “I hate him!!!!!!” :crying:

They can do the games. Not sure if the extension one has or can be done

Yeah really think I'm getting tired of this place for awhile. Same **** being thrown out there by the same people. No one on here wants to have an actual discussion they just want to hammer home their views and their talking points. Its why I stopped watching the news and listening to politicians. So yeah that's where we are at, people living in their little bubble, beating the same dead horses, only listening to people that agree with them and attacking the poster rather than the post because they don't have anything new to say.

Sounds like one OBrien defender about to go into hiding

Doesn't matter. Miami said Tunsil is not on The table. They want Clowney & McKinney. But it seems they believe they'll be doing us a favor, or a favor to O'Brien.

From reports, that's the only reason Miami is involved. They're trying to rebuild & have a lot of draft picks to do it with. If they can land Clowney & McKinney for a couple of mid-rounders, they're sitting pretty.

They're not looking to get Clowney to make a Super Bowl run. Especially on the tag.
Where did this McKinney thing come from? I can’t find anything on it. And for mid rounders? C’mon man.

You're proving mine as well

I'm not sure what your point was. You label me an Obrien defender like its being called a racist or a Nazi or something, though I'm pretty sure to you its worse or at least on the same level, and then say I'm about to "go into hiding". Not sure what I would be hiding from either, if Obrien was fired tomorrow it wouldn't change my day to day, if the Texans win the SB this year it wouldn't change my day to day either. I come here strictly for enjoyment and to kill time while at work. If I "go into hiding" as you put it, its because its not enjoyable and I can find other ways to kill time.

Die hard Dolphins fan here; just signed up to read and discuss your guys take on this Clowney situation. I don’t follow other teams as much as my Dolphins obviously. Is Clowney elite? Also I see a lot of speculation here that you guys want Tunsil. From everything I’ve read from Dolphins insiders he’s not available. I’m reading Stills, Drake and a 2nd or 3rd. Would you guys be happy with that deal?

I never realized that firing Brian Gaine could create such a shytshow. Thanks again, Kid McNair. The worst 2nd generation owner since Mike Brown.

I thought without a G.M. they would just be conservative and do the necessary deals to make it through the year... Not act like a damn teenager who has their parents' credit card, trading away future draft picks and cornerstone players (for pennies on the dollar.)

Before I answer, just curious, How would you feel about that deal?

Stills and Drake are two good players. Drake in particular was CRIMINALLY under used by Gase last season. I’m not familiar enough with Clowney. I think Drake has potential to be in the top half of backs in this league and with your offense he’d explode. Stills is one of the better deep threats in the league and has been good for us, I’m sure he’ll flourish with Watson and your beast #1 receiver. We picked up an addition 2nd in our trade back for Rosen.

I’m all for it if Clowney is as good as advertised

If BOB were the head chef at a fine restaurant, he couldn't boil water without a cook book. If he were a boat captain, he'd be driving the Titanic straight for the iceberg.

He and Cal have so royally screwed up this off season, if I didn't know better I'd say they are purposely sabotaging this team.

The level of ineptitude and malfeasance is so high that I don't see how even one single fan can get on this forum and actually try to defend this **** show.

I guess at this point, it's all just comic relief. Just sit back, grab some popcorn and watch the implosion.

I said earlier that the O'Brien defenders would start going into hiding.

Now that OBrien is really burning the franchise to the ground you are getting tired of the negativity of the forum

What are you hearing from your FO regarding Clowney’s visit? Does your FO think they can entice him to Miami? He has to agree to a trade before it’s a done deal. I’d make the trade straight up for Tunsil or for the other guys and a 2.

Tunsil is off the board from every reputable Dolphins site I follow (a lot of them) He’s a cornerstone piece on a rookie deal, he’s not going anywhere.

Everything I read said the visit went well. And from what I hear the latter offer is what it will take. Not sure who that’s a win for but we love Ballage at RB and both Stills and Drake are on their way out next year so it makes sense. Both good players though. We shall see.

He's an elite run defender. He can potentially be an elite pass rusher but he's not that yet.

He also has had microfracture surgery on his knee.

I think the problem is you can't extend him until January. He can walk or force teams to use another more expensive tag on him if he wants to go to his preferred destinations of Philly or Seattle

There's a lot of risk in trading for him right now.

In reply to your first question (Im a big Clowney fan) Clowney is an elite run defender and a good-not-great pass rusher. He is much better from the interior and can play all over the formation. VERY difficult to stop and offenses will have to slide protection to him every week. He will be in the top of the league in TFL's.

IMHO, given that we are trading him so late, your trade scenario might get it done if its the 2nd round pick. Your 2nd is likely to be high.

We will see what happens. One thing I do know is the addition of Drake and Stills to your already potent offense is going to give you the most talented offense in football. Smh, nightmare to defend

Fair enough.

I personally wouldn't like that trade. I like Stills, but I don't think we have a need for a WR. That's the deepest position on our team.

I don't know a whole lot about Drake, but he doesn't really move the needle for me. Especially with this offense and OB's playcalling.

The pick...That's a nice start, but no I wouldn't be happy with that trade.

Too easy to lay blame on Obrien for this so-called cluster.

It seems fairly obvious to me that some blame should go to Clowney and Cook for overestimating Clowneys worth to the Texans and the rest of the NFL.

I believe Clowney realizes this and thus the Cook firing.

Best outcome for Texans / Clowney seems to be Clowney playing for the tender and both start fresh next year looking for a move.

Clowney should get assurance of no tender next year.

More likely though that Obrien blunders and gets fleeced.

:coffee:

We have one stud, two glassmen, and nobody behind them. How is this the deepest position on the team?

I agree with this. Another durable WR would be great...but Ill take a LT first of course.

My feeling is that DL, MLB and safety are the deepest positions on this team.

Drake behind this offensive line isn't going to be anything more special than what Lamar Miller was already doing for us and Kenny Stills is just a slower Deandre Carter who we've already got signed so he'd just get buried on our roster...

Drake is a better running back than Miller; he’s a threat to house it every time he touches the ball and MUCH better than Miller in the passing game. This was with our terrible OL, mediocre QB and no one who puts fear in a defense like Hopkins. Agree to disagree
