The New New JaDeveon Clowney Thread

Of course not, but he also has a tendency to overlook flaws when he sees promise. I've even seen a few beat writers make tongue-in-cheek mock "Baldy Breakdowns" gushing over scrubs that make a few good plays. Not to take anything away from Tunsil, he is a very good player with room to improve at one of the most important positions in the game. Just pointing out a bias of the source is all

I literally pointed out an example of him going overboard celebrating "my guy" in my post. I can like Tunsil (and even agree that the Dolphins should not trade him) and still recognize that Baldinger is dramatic sometimes. Maybe read closely before getting so defensive.

He’s elite. You don’t stone wall Khalil Mack and give up one sack all year accidentally buddy. Get real

FFS again, read before responding. I'm not disagreeing that Tunsil is a very good tackle. I'm not even disgreeing that you should not trade him for a franchise tagged Clowney. I'm just pointing out that a "Baldy Breakdown" isn't the best way to prove that. Breathe.

Of course he is, unless he’s celebrating your guy. Tunsil is young and elite already at the most important position protecting your franchise. Cut it out... The video alone. Stone walled Khalil Mack last year and your guy Clowney. You guys are homers
I think you just rubbed people the wrong way when you said Tunsil has been more productive than Clowney. I'm sure most of us hasn't really watched Tunsil enough to say that's false, nor have you watched Clowney as much as us.

If I look at accolades to compare the two:
- Clowney has made three pro-bowls, Tunsil none
- Clowney one all-pro team, Tunsil none
- Clowney pff score 88, Tunsil was 70.4

If we both take off our homer goggles, one guy obviously stands out more in regards to 3rd party ratings and awards. Hard to say Tunsil has been more productive.

1 sack given up all season; stone walking Khalil Mack, Clowney and every other stud he went again. Only his 3rd year with **** next to him at guard

If he did that consistently, he would be elite and an all-pro... even Davenport can look good on plays in isolation of the whole

Giving up 1 sack all season with trash next to you at guard isn’t elte?
Fans don't determine elite

Answer the question... giving up 1 sack all season with an absolute scrub next to you at LG... That’s not elite?

After looking at it more I'm still hesitant to put him in elite status. But damn I can listen to the arguments for it.

Dolphins would be silly to entertain him in any trade for Clowney.

He's given up 8 sacks in his career, 6 in his first year at tackle.

But I'm not taking the trade you proposed earlier either.

I bet our guards are trashier then yours. If we get him in a trade he'll give up at least 5-10 sacks and people will laugh at elite.

Our ol coach is one of the best at being consistently bad.

After looking at it again, looks like the dolphins were bottom 3 in pass attempts last year.

Not as many opportunities to give up sacks.

He’s a huge upgrade in Houston . A cornerstone of what might be with the two rookies and Fulton .

Take the first tweet with a grain of salt

Expect trade for Clowney to happen over the weekend if in fact it does happen.

Im hearing the best offer Miami is willing to do is 3rd pick + Stills + Late 2020 pick.

Everything is stagnant until Clowney hires new agency.

The longer Jadeveon Clowney goes without signing his franchise tender, the less likely he’ll be traded when he does. With the season starting, a team’s not going to just hand over a left tackle. Clowney could end up returning to the Texans another season. If he wants to get paid.

— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) August 28, 2019

The only leverage Jadeveon Clowney has is his signature. All of this Miami news and agent news is weeks late. We are just getting it now. His value is low, the trade market for what the #Texans potentially want is literally gone.

Tunsil is elite. Tunsil is a better prospect and has been more productive at his position than Clowney has been at his AND he’s cheaper so how isn’t he elite if Clowney is?
According to the NFL list of the top 100 players for 2019 Clowney is #63, Tunsil is not in the top 100. According to ESPN'S list, based on input from 40 football experts for 2019 Clowney is #41, Tunsil is not in the top 100. So according to knowledgeable unbiased people, Clowney is elite and Tunsil is not.

BOB needs to grovel and see if it’s possible to at least bandaid this open festering wound. Tell Clowney a trade is off the table if he signs his tender and plays for the Texans this year.

Right now I see a scenario where he is neither traded or plays for the Texans. That is the worst of all possible scenarios.

I'm kind of getting the feeling that at this point, the most likely thing to happen is Clowney signs his tag and plays in Houston this season. He'd have incentive to perform to showcase himself for his next team. I can't see him giving up that many checks. Even BOB understands (I hope) that he's not going to get a decent return, so he's got to realize that a Clowney playing for a new deal somewhere is going to be better than a couple scrubs and a third in exchange.

Now that OBrien is really burning the franchise to the ground you are getting tired of the negativity of the forum

I'm betting we're in the AFCCG this season. I remember all the years I thought everything was going right & the bottom would drop out.

This year. I don't like a damn thing that's happened. So I'm expecting sht to just click.

I have no problem admitting I don't know half the sht I pretend to. BO'bs got this. I ain't worried.

(I'm going to continue to complain just for appearances)

Exactly! Screw taking the dolphins trash. Enjoy another year of elite play and figure this out next year when his value is right. If we don’t have a good season maybe JR will wake up and rid this team of the butt chin disaster and Clowney will stay.

Actually he either does or does not sign his tender. If he does then if he isn’t traded he plays for the Texans. If he doesn’t sign it he doesn’t play for anybody.

Very good, but I'm not ready to call him elite after 1 good year

Jadeveon Clowney Rumors: Texans LB Willing to Hold out into Regular Season
"However, he's hesitant to sign the tag because that would give Houston the right to trade him to any NFL franchise."
Clowney made that comment so he wouldn’t lose “leverage”. His only leverage however is negative..he doesn’t sign a tender, he doesn’t play for anybody and he doesn’t get paid. He’s got the world by the balls, lol...and the Texans start the process over again next year. His plan is to sign an extension for huge bucks or play for a contender. Somewhere in between is the reality for him but he hasn’t come to accept that yet. This is by no means a one sided issue. Offering a franchise tag is actually normal but he just seems determined to paint himself into a corner.

I’m reading Stills, Drake and a 2nd or 3rd. Would you guys be happy with that deal?

I don't love it, and I'd prefer to just have Clowney in tow and ready for week 1, and I'd also prefer Trent Williams somehow, but knowing that Tunsil is off the table coupled with my give a f*ck now stretched beyond belief ... I'd actually be ok with this.

Stills could be a pretty effective complement to Hop, Will, and Keke. And would be nice to know when (not if) one of Will/Keke go down and stay down Stills will be there.

I've like Drake since he was at Alabama, and I agree he's been underutilized. He's really quite talented and would make a pretty nice combo with Duke.

The 2nd would have to be Miami's actual own pick though. The one that should be somewhere between 33-37-ish. We can get a good player there.

A good young player on a rookie deal and two talented offensive pieces that will legitimately help the ballclub immediately to finally put this whole rotten problem to bed? Ya, fine, I want it to be over and frankly I don't expect whatsoever that what O'Brien puts together will be in any way even remotely as good and absolutely no way it's better.

At this point it's obvious to me OB wants to get rid of him. He's probably hoping JD doesn't show up... imagine a locker room with a star player that doesn't want to be there and a head coach that doesn't want him there.

Kenny Stills had 550 yards receiving last year. His high was in 2014, 930 yards.

These PFF stats are before last season:

Tweet from @PFF_Dolphins: Kenny Stills leads the league with 11 touchdowns from the slot over the last two seasons

In Stills, Wilson and Amendola the #Dolphins have 3 WRs who lined up in the slot on pass routes at least 47% of the time last season - there is a lot of versatility in this group

Tweet from @PFF_Dolphins: "Throughout his career, Kenny Stills has 23 touchdowns from deep passes. That is the second-most for all wide receivers since the start of the 2013 season."

32 teams, 32 stats to know

This is what it comes down to. Clowney has the leverage. He'll hold his cards and force Cal to send him to his team of choice for peanuts.

If they give Clowney away for a mid-round pick, my fandom will be severely tested. It would be one thing if Clowney were a bad teammate, constantly injured or expressed interest in playing elsewhere. He hasn't. But for this organization to do all of this self-inflicted damage, it's just a trainwreck. I understand winning in the NFL is hard but this team is in a league of their own when it comes to sabotaging their chances at success. If they were going to trade him, do it before the franchise tag. If they want to keep him, then just publicly say they're keeping him and refuse to entertain the idea of trading him. This didn't have to come to this but this organization can't stop shooting themselves in the foot at seemingly every opportunity.

If they deal him for a mid-round pick and to another Patriots buddy, I will be done with this franchise.

I'd rather just retain his rights and not have him for the year then send him off for a mid round pick.

Next year we'll have a gm and new coach anyway which might make negotiations easier.

i wish hard knocks was there when clowney walks in and makes eye contact with OB
Wouldn't that be great! So what are the odds that...
1) Clowney shows up for the first game and plays great for 16 games in an effort to showcase himself and get the best deal possible going forward... or
2) Pouts all season, misses games due to "minor" injuries, is less productive than last year and then expects to be paid as if he did #1.

If there's any doubt in your mind which one it is, you should understand why the Texans didn't commit to him long term and only one team has asked for permission to talk to him that we know about. It is so rare for a coach or teammate to say anything negative about a player... that when it happens, it raises a big red flag. The "worker bee" comment gave many of us an idea of how management felt some time ago.

This could still play out as a win for the Texans and/or Clowney; however, there is no mistaking what an absolute dumpster fire this episode has been for the organization through today. So many unforced errors and terrible PR moves.

I really don't care what bill OBriens player evaluation is, to be honest.

This is the guy who has brought us hoyer, mallet, kalil, chicken and shrimp and other assorted junk. we are about to see one of the worst OLs in NFL history handpicked guys O'Brien loved
