The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

I love the RB argument.

I am 100% on the side of the RBs. I believe without either one of the greatest QBs of all time or an elite run game you aren't making noise in the playoffs when it matters most.

Everyone needs to stop looking at Patriots when Making arguments. They have THE GOAT in Tom Brady. They have THE GOAT in Bill B. They are defensive guru's year in and year out. Tom Brady takes a pay cut to allow the Pats to pay people around him. They are the greatest franchise the NFL has ever seen. Teams need to stop trying to mimic the Patriots and fans need to stop using the Patriots in arguments. They will always be the outliers to every argument.

With that said....

I would NEVER use a 1st round pick on a RB, and my reason is $$. In the first round I would always focus on drafting valuable high cost players. Certain positions - QB, CB, EDGE, OT just cost substantially more than other positions. If you try to get a premiere guy at these 4 positions in FA you are probably spending close to $14+ M annually.

If you can draft that position in the first round and get that 5th year rookie option you can save TONS of $$ and afford to pay other positions with premium $ for a few years until their 2nd contracts are due. When I say other positions, I can include RB in that argument. It seems year after year (minus Chip Kelly and D Murray) you can get the most elite RB FAs for $6 M and even less range.

With that said...

If you want to look at examples of teams that just have pretty good QBs and devalue the RB position look at teams like the Redskins under the Cousins / Gruden regime. They have peaked, and that peak involved being smashed in the first round in a down year in the NFC East. Even when you look at past super bowl champions and super bowl contenders that do NOT include Patriots, most of those teams leaned heavily on the run, including the great Peyton Manning and his 23 Super Bowl pass attempts.

I understand and appreciate what everyone here is saying and I like the debate cause I feel like no side ever convinces the other side. I respect all of yalls opinions on this matter, but put me in the "Give me Brady or Elite FA RB Camp that won't spend high pick on a RB".
 
I don't think I have ever posted my views on RBs on this board. IMO, RBs get the raw deal. From the time kids start playing pewee football, the best athletes are thrown in playing RB and many continue playing RB the rest of their football careers. It comes down to a simple micro economics supply and demand relationship. The RB position has the largest supply of talent of any position, which allows for very talented players to fall to the late rounds or go undrafted. Once a RB gets to the NFL, often it is the guy with the biggest chip on their shoulder that runs the hardest and many times that is not the players who are drafted in the 1st round.

RBs also can come in all different sizes and styles, making the supply even larger yet. My advice to any elite talent would be to give up on RB as early as possible and pick the position on defense that gives you the best chance for success in the NFL, rather it is at corner, safety or linebacker. Charles Woodson was recruited by nearly every school as a RB, except Michigan, who wanted him to play corner. I think he made a very wise decision.
 
So the Broncos pick at #177 has gone OT. Any suggestions? They've gone offense so far, maybe the defense deserves a little love? How about Brendan Langley CB Lamar?

With pick #180 Kansas City selects Joe Mathis - EDGE, Washington

Versatile edge rusher who has unfortunately constantly dealt with injuries throughout his career. He could be a future replacement down the road for Tamba Hali but he has to stay healthy. This is a high risk - high reward pick for KC.

WR not a need but Davis is my #5 WR, and if Jordy gets hurt maybe Davis can be a go to for Rodgers.

Scouts consider Tu'iklolavatu (pronounced TOO-ee-koe-loe-VAH-too) of advanced age for a rookie, as the married man turns 26 years old in June. The Utah native began his college career as a redshirt at the University of Utah in 2009 before heading out for a two-year church mission in the Philippines. Tu'iklolavatu missed the 2013 season with a foot injury, and returned in 2014 in a reserve role (eight tackles in 12 games). Finally seeing more playing time in 2015, he tied for second in the FBS with four fumble recoveries, while making 28 tackles, six for loss, and two sacks from his interior position. Tu'iklolavatu decided that he would prefer to play at USC for his final collegiate season, and played well for Utah's Pac-12 South foe. He was a second-team all-conference pick after making 53 stops, two for loss. Tu'ikolovatu actually lived in his car near the USC campus last summer until he was cleared to receive housing benefits by the NCAA. His uncle, Sione Pouha, was an NFL defensive tackle for seven years with the Jets.

I PM'd my picks in yesterday afternoon.

At this point in the draft I like to double dip on positions that I see more often have success later in drafts versus going out and just trying to fill other needs.

There's still a few tackles left that I am interested in and Ravens need a new RT and guard help, so let's hope my double dip can accomplish 1 if not both of those needs.

That's a good pick. Since my draft is over I was debating him and Javarius Leamon with this pick. Ultimately had to go with the Relative to the Hulk though.

Very solid draft.

Lots of talent, every one of these guys should make the team all of the defensive guys should play right away. Lawson/Johnson were steals at that point in the draft.

One of the 2 OT's should be able to replace Wagner and you got the best WR in this draft if healthy (Davis) IMHO

I like Aaron Jones, he was one of my later round favorites to pick up for the Packers. Jones had crazy production last year and also one of the best all around combines for the RB group. I prefer short RBs (5'-8") and he has great hands along with being a willing blocker.

Thanks for the help. I use an older windows phone with explorer but need to replace it soon, just hesitant to learn a new system. Searched the ap store and couldn't find anything. Luckily I only use my phone here sparingly, most of the time I am on my computer.
 
With the 189th pick in the TT Mock Draft the Los Angeles Rams select Jonathan Ford, Safety, Auburn.

Ford has starter level ability and I can believe he's still available at this point in the draft. Ford's a big rangy safety that has the speed to play single high safety. He also is a big hitter who has played some nickel CB.

Very experienced played in 52 games, (High on team) with 34 starts. Helps ST's immediately, ran a 4.34 at his pro day. I don't expect Ford to be around this late in the real draft.
