The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

With the 59th pick Kansas City selects Anthony Walker - LB, Northwestern

Derrick Johnson is 34 years old and coming off yet another leg injury so his time is just about up. KC has been looking for his successor for the last few years but has failed to accomplish the task. That ends now. Walker is a sideline-to-sideline tackling machine who recorded 225 tackles and 29 TFL in 2 years as a full-time starter. He can come downhill against the run, fly to the sideline to shutdown edge runs, and can drop into coverage and cover the seams. He has a complete game and would slide inside to start next to Johnson as a rookie and take over as QB of the defense once Johnson retires.

I like Walker. Projections are that he lasts till the 4th round but I don't see that happening. Walker was going to be my pick for the Packers @ 61

Do yall think Moton starts at RT day 1 (assuming Texans draft him)? I don't really see the need for him inside assuming we get everyone including Nick Martin back healthy then he can either push Mancz to guard or head there himself.

I really would prefer not to see Clark or Allen as opening day starters anywhere along the line.

What are yalls thoughts?

CnnD mentioned that Allen never played RG before. That & a new (dumas) QB, a new "scheme" to him... lower limb injuries, I'm not past giving him the benefit of the doubt that he can get back to his 2015 form.

Remember when Fitzpatrick first started for us & there appeared to be a lot of confusion on the OL, then Mallett comes in & they looked like a totally different unit?

Maybe something like that was going on with Allen. Had to be for them to keep trotting him out there when Aboushi looked more than competent.

I think XSF had a really strong year. I think Mancz had a really strong year. If Nick Martin is who we thought he was... I think we can risk addressing OG much later.

While not a prospect that I think will jump right in as a starter, Roderick Johnson has a lot of potential as a LT. Started 31 consecutive games at left tackle for FSU going back to the middle of his true freshman year. The young guy is still growing into his body; he's a very lengthy guy. He also needs some footwork training. The Seahawks needed to add somebody at tackle that at the very least they can start grooming for LT. They signed Joeckel to a one year deal at tackle money, so I am assuming he'll play LT for them in 2017.

My #1 goal for the Seahawks was to help them up front, as their running game has slowed and they've struggled to protect Russell Wilson. I think Lamp gives them an immediate starter somewhere on the line and has the ability to be an elite player, while Johnson would be their best prospect at LT.

I love what you've done. Seahawks have said Ifedi is moving to RT so that gives them an immediate hole at RG that Lamp would fill. Then they can develop Johnson for a year at OT while experimenting with Joeckel.

I think it's a great pick here, and Johnson should have received some consideration at the Texans pick. And I think the notion that the Texans must take a OT in the 1st has been debunked. They will have options in the 2nd.

Cowboys missed their 1st round pick and only have about 15 minutes left on the clock for the 2nd round pick. They drafted S Obi Melinfonwu in the 1st and need DE, DT, and CB. Top players available are Carl Lawson (DE), Chris Wormley (DT), Jourdan Lewis (CB), & Teez Tabor (CB).

I vote Lewis.

Teez Tabor needs good safety help and pass rush or he's questionable at his speed. With it, he can be a good player IMO, without it JAG.

With the 60th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, Dallas Cowboys select
Chris Wormley, DE Michigan.
Dallas still needs some help on their D and their D line receives a much needed boost with this big dude. 6'5" 298lbs.
Waited all weekend for that pick.
Had a busy afternoon and only just got home.

I'll accept the pick. No damage done. No other picks had been made.

I just wish people would start taking advantage of the PM function. If there is even a chance you won't be around you forward a list to someone.

I think we let @Texansphan keep the pick. We didn't have much of a discussion, and we have too many group picks as it is.
Thanks.
It was a bit of a shock to wait since Friday night, and at lunch time there were still 4 to go and I get home, turn the puter on and there are posts about a group pick for the 60th.

With 4 to go, you want to PM someone a list in case you get tied up.

If no one objects, I can take the Raiders to help move things along. Give me an hour window, I'll have the pick in via PM to bah and lucky or here.

Sorry for the delay, late afternoon, early evening is worst time for me.

Packers filled one corner spot with Marlon Humphrey in the first.

Their remaining needs are:

ILB - Walker was going to be surprise pick but he left board earlier than anticipated. No remaining ILB do I value enough for a 2nd round pick

OG/OC - I have high grades on many interior lineman still available. Too many high grades, so I will wait for round 3 or later

RB - My top remaining RBs are expected to go much later, not a fan of Kamara

TE - Same as OG/OT

S - Again many high grades still available

Which leaves me needing yet another corner.

The Packers select Jourdan Lewis - CB

Packers could greatly benefit from 2 corners. Davon House - the one who was torched all season as a Jag then released might be Pack pre-draft top corner, not anymore.

With the 62nd pick the Pittsburgh Steelers select Tarell Basham - EDGE, Ohio

Basham was a highly productive edge rusher at mid-major Ohio who went through relative anonymity in the draft process until he blew up the Senior Bowl and then had an excellent Combine. He's now one of the hottest prospects in the country and his draft stock is soaring. He's strong against the run and is a combo rusher who can win with speed or power. He's not overly explosive but he combines his plus athleticism with good technique and a great motor.

The Steelers need someone to take over for James Harrison at OLB eventually and we see Basham as that guy. A pass rushing combo of Basham and Bud Dupree is a young and dangerous group moving forward.

Yes I believe he would. Speed guys would give him problems in year one but he'd be the best RT on the team by the time he was given a uniform number.
Not so sure about that. His kick slide is horribly slow. He leans forward most of the time which allows players to easily pull him off balance. He's going to struggle big-time until he corrects these issues if he even can. He could start inside alot sooner if he goes to a power running team. This wasn't a good pick for us.

Sorry t4e I was just going off the list you gave me

Oh no worries. I saw you posted but deleted it so sorry for the confusion.

To finish the 2nd round off the Panthers select...

Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy

The Panthers need OT help and with some top CBs gone it made sense to grab who I think is the next best player available.

@rmartin65 you're on the lock with the Browns for the 3rd round!

With the 66th selection in 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft, San Francisco selects:

Ethan Pocic - OL, LSU

The Niners will be transforming into the Alex Gibbs zone blocking scheme, and Pocic's athleticism and intelligence makes him an excellent fit at whatever position they choose to utilize him.

Great pick up for the 9ers here in the third.
This guy should be a stud and is versatile.

So we, Houston, ended up with a QB to groom and RT to come in and start? Not bad at all IMO. Hopefully that's what we end up with IRL with our first 2 picks.

Via Lance Zierlein on Texans 2nd round draft pick, Taylor Moton

Sources Tell Us
"I had to go back and watch his 2015 tape when he played guard. He was a little rough at tackle this year but that isn't his spot. Big and strong as a guard. He was moving guys from Ohio State around like it was nothing." -- Area scout for NFC team

NFL Comparison
Zach Fulton

Bottom Line
Four-year starter for ascending Western Michigan program. Size and potential to dominate at the point of attack with pure power should make him a coveted right guard prospect. He can be a little stiff in his movements and his footwork needs plenty of work, but he's functional in both areas. Might need additional work before he is ready to take on the wily, athletic defensive tackles in the NFL, but his physical traits and power give him a chance to become a reliable NFL starter.

If a team needs starting RG, Moton is way off the board by time Texans select 2nd rd. If they can convince everyone he is a developmental RT then maybe, lol.

Questionable if Mahomes is there @ 25?

So based off this mock exercise, who fits & should be there 25th overall it's;

Forrest Lamp, he would be your Houston Texans, starting RT who could plug & play virtually all OL positions if called upon, so gives you most versatility.

With the 68th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select...

Marcus Maye, S, Florida

NFL Comparison
Glover Quin

Bottom Line
Interchangeable safety with the instincts of a free safety and the physicality of a box player. Thrives as a downhill player and has the instincts and speed to operate effectively from both single-high and two-deep looks. Has the physical attributes and intelligence to step into a starter's role early on and will be a strong contributor on special teams. via Lance Zierlein

Dang, this was my first choice for the Chargers.
