Texans Wide Receivers

I think they will keep those two, and let both Brown and Woods go. But that’s operating in a vacuum, and not accounting for injuries, which will certainly occur.
If this team were rebuilding then going younger at the position makes sense. But this team is angling for a Super Bowl, those youngsters have to show they are better right now. And i’m not sure they are…

Probably either Brown or Woods make the team, not both.

I just mentioned the Texans website. Actually both players are listed at 6’3” on numerous sources I looked at including nfl and their college sites. Where are you guys cherry picking your stats from?
I wasn't looking anywhere just saying team sites aren't really to be trusted. Both NFL or college.

Citing a team site for height and weight is like citing someone's dating profile for height and weight - they're usually fibbing.

College and NFL sites want their players to appear bigger larger and faster.. so they lie. As it was stated, I use NFL combine only figures if possible

Gotta love the clickbait headlines...good lord. But would anyone make this deal...Saints give us a 6th rounder for Noah Brown? I wouldn't consider it until camp is over and we're at cutdowns to make sure the health of the group is intact.

But...if everyone is healthy, I'd certainly consider it. If I could squeeze out a 5th, I'd like that even better. I doubt a 4th is in the cards....especially given the injury history. That would free up a spot on the depth chart for Hutch at the 6th spot if he can show some things...or less likely either Woods or Sims.

Right now I've got Dell, Collins, Diggs, Metchie as your top four guys and based on camp reports I'm moving Metchie from likely to make the team to 100% lock. Currently, my #5 and #6 are Noah Brown and Ben Skowronek (sp?). Thoughts?

I think Metchie could be a starter on some teams and could get us a round 3. I would make that trade only if Noah Brown or someone stepped up to replace Metchie.
As for now, I think we keep the best six and cut the rest.

Why would you not keep the best six? Maybe I'm missing something but that seems sort of obvious.

As far as Metchie, I don't see a trade. They invested a lot into this kid in all sorts of ways, not to mention trading up to get him...and just when the payoff comes, you trade him?

No thanks. If he's balling...that's the payoff. Brown, I could see. I don't know if a desperate team would give up a 7th for Woods but that's another guy that is on the trade block (if I'm Nick). A team might give up a 7th just to make sure he doesn't hit the open market. There's little chance he will make this team. WR is just too deep here.

It seems the standard price at camp cutdowns is player plus 7th round pick for a 6th round pick. I could see several Texans on the roster bubble fetching that.

It’s fun to come up with trade scenarios but I think getting more than that for any possible trade candidate is unrealistic for two reasons:

1) If they were worth more they wouldn’t be in danger of getting cut. They’d be on the active roster no questions asked.

2) If you ask for more and don’t make the deal, say you then cut them with the intention of placing them on your practice squad, the inquiring team can get them without giving you anything.

To your last point, that’s IF they clear waivers and nobody in front of you claims the player first. While I generally agree with your points, if a team is really thin at a spot, they may prefer to trade for a guy rather than leave it to chance. Yes, the compensation is generally in the 6th or 7th round range, but there are exceptions. Good post sir.

Didn't Woods have a better season than Metchie in 2023? There is no reason to think he won't be as good this year.

Is “he” Woods? I think there’s all kinds of reasons to think Metchie would be favored over Woods. And just looking at Woods as a seperate situation without comparing him to Metchie or anyone else…there is reason to think he is declining. He isn’t a bum and can still play in this league for another year or two, but to think he’s not showing decline is not something I would agree with. In short, he’s no better than 7th at best at his position on this roster. Exceptions for injury or trade…but if all is at is stands today, Woods isn’t making this team imho.

Wouldn't consider it at all.

Brown is our clear cut #4 until Metchie shows he can actually play and while he looks quicker in camp and everyone is singing his praises he dropped the ball a lot and I haven't heard about those issues being addressed yet.

This WR corps can get injured and has been injured - #4 and #5 on the roster are going to be important if our history is anything to go by. I want the best guys available for when that happens. A 6th round pick isn't enough to sway me whatsoever on seeing us potentially get kneecapped part way through the season should an injury bug hit.

Our 7th WR in 2023 played 3 games and one other played one game. I would like to see on the final roster with Swarovski as a 7th who could play special teams and some tight end.

I think the WR room is coming into clear focus for me. Could someone ball out tomorrow...or fall on their face and that makes the difference? Possible, but imho not that likely. For me...5 of the (most likely) 6 spots are largely sewn up. It's really the 6th spot that MAY be up for grabs. Noah? He is on the shelf. I think it's either IR or PUP for him, so I am eliminating him. There are 3 candidates for one spot - Woods, Skowronick (sp), Sims. At this time, I'm favoring Sims and you make him the primary returner.

100% locks:
Collins
Diggs
Dell

Likely:
Metchie
Hutchinson

Last Spot:
Sims

I'm still going with 3 TEs including Skor. Noah Brown on IR ; when he is ready to come back and if we need him we can play musical chairs with some other player to get him a roster spot.

There's already 3 TE's and imho they are all 100% locks - Dalton, Cade, and Brevin. If you count Ben S as a TE, he would be the 4th TE on the team and somewhat duplicative of what Jordan is skillset-wise. I think Ben is odd man out, but who knows. We'll all find out soon.

Remember that I have proposed Brevin Jordan being a running back along with Akers and Mixon.

Skoronski would get snaps at TE/FB/ST and RZ WR.

That and a quarter will buy you a cup of coffee. Other than you, I've not seen anything to suggest they plan to give Brevin any snaps while playing RB, and as far as I know, he's not been cross-trained there in camp. I've seen some buzz around FB/H-Back, but not as a true tailback ala Joe Mixon. This isn't Madden, so I don't think your plan has any merit other than spinning some ideas around in the noggin.

This is exactly it.

Ya, let's take a 6'3 245 lb, 4.67 guy that's already going on his 4th year in the league who hasn't played rb since pop warner (if even that) and just up and convert him overnight.

Like, that's not a real thing.

Well, to be fair, I did say full back not tailback

I think Ben's spot is going to depend on whether Brown is on the roster or on IR to start and who their returners are. If Sims is a returner then maybe Sko doesn't get it otherwise I feel like Sko is an easy 6th WR seeing as he's a ST ace.

Yeah I should have clarified that I want Jordan and Skoronski at fullback.

Edit: I am not a coffee drinker but still trying to find a cup for 25 cents so I can resell it for $2.25.
I know people have talked about Sko at FB because he took a few snaps for the Rams there, but I doubt the team sees him playing there. They've given multiple snaps to different TEs and even British Brooks and have now signed another TE.

Has anyone seen Sko take a single snap at FB in practice or in a game? That suggests to me the team doesn't have any vision for him playing FB for us.

I think you are missing my point in that Skoronski has more value on this team than does Quiteriano,Beck, Johnson or Sims.
I want him on teams even if he plays a couple snaps at those positions.

I like Sko for his ST ability, I've written about it before.

I do not like Sko for his FB abilities and think it's foolish if anyone lists him as a FB.

Yep. Which reserve WR is most likely to be active on game day? Sko for the ST versatility.

You also said runnning back…. like Mixon and Akers. Neither of whom play fullback. I’m pretty sure everyone knows what you meant but whatev….
You are pretty sure everyone knows what I meant but you felt like you had to address it? Interesting.
